Still that cobble weakness, but at least you have sprinters now!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Of course Belkin manager likes to pretend it's just "sprinters", but in fact it is much more serious: Movistar has THE sprinter now. Not Belkin with their hairy, fancy Kittel, not SKY with their... "fastest sprinter alive" Cavendish, not BMC with their super epic #1 Hanzen... no, Movistar has the golden egg, which will drop victories over victories like a superfertile chicken on a breeding farm. You just see, Movistar will soon be called MoviWin!

Yeah. It wasn't planned to be that much but I had a few deals in mind and for other deals, I just thought that they would help the other team a lot more (e.g. Szmyd, Karpets or Visconti deals) while others had to close some gaps in the squad (Duarte) that the first deals created.
Still that cobble weakness, but at least you have sprinters now!
If I would have bought top-class cobblers then this would not be Movistar anymore, would it?
The sprinters only replaced the time triallists. Dowsett, Intxausti and Castroviejo hurt (especially when two GTs have TTTs) but I'm sure that Calzone and Lobato can make up for that.

-Carlo Calzone-
Extravagance, quality & fame
24 years old | Sprinter | Italy |
-Profile-
Carlo Calzone, often time’s simply referred to as The Calzone or The Diva, is an eccentric, rising star on the Pro Cycling EPIC circuit. Born in Rome and spending much of the time riding away from the Carabinieri, this guy is the complete package for any flat or hilly stage win any day of the week. As soon as the big mountains begin, this guy is struggling and don’t expect him to do much work for his teammates. If he fails at doing so, don’t expect to hear anything from him rather than complaints and finger-pointing, The Calzone never takes the fall for his failure or anyone else’s.
He rides for himself, but expects everyone to work for him. He wants to collect stage wins and fame, he is in for the glory and sunshine spot. Rarely will he drop a word of praise of his teammates, but don’t be silly: If you want to sign him, you need to provide him with at least a half-decent lead-out. He doesn’t accept being the second tier sprinter in the team, so you better get rid of that old cow in your team that doesn’t win anything but costs a lot of cash. If you don’t follow his mentality, if you are not with him all the way, complaints and frustration will rain down on your mail-address very frequently. Also if you sent him to a cobblestone races, he will simply refuse to do anything at all. He could be good at them mind you if a team manager can convince him in the future to train this set of skills, but so far, The Calzone gives up just when you start talking about it.
But all these things aside, he is a quite an enjoyable guy and has a lot to offer for a team. The sponsor will love him simply because there won’t go by a week without him being in the headlines and his ravishing good looks will advertise their products like crazy. Reporters talk about Calzone if he isn't in a race, giving you more screentime than you could possibly imagine. His list of friends include numerous Italian football stars, breathtaking models, awkward millionaires that want to take photographs with him, and of course there’s a huge bandwagon of an entourage. Right now, there are at least over twenty official The Calzone fanclubs registered in Italy - and that's although he hasn't won anything of importance yet. Imagine how that number sky-rockets once he wins Mailand - San Remo? The Calzone appreciates friendship and a loyal manager, but that doesn't mean he will automitcally stay on your team for a lifetime (but you probably wouldn't want him to stay anyway). The fans will have finally one great Italian sprinter to cheer for again; you know, like in Cipollini’s time. His reign in the youth and amateur races is well-known, cycling forums all around the world praise him as the next big thing hitting our poor, craving cycling-souls. After some time spending on a cruiseship with Italian Playboy Models, he is now back on the track, looking for a team to prove everyone that his streak of wins in amateur races was just the beginning.
2013
Calzone celebrated some great success when he first hit the professional scene by winning a stage in Tour of Turkey and also claiming the Points Classification. He was then sent to the Giro d'Italia, where he achieved at best some outside Top 10 rankings, but was overall left without much support in the many fast bunch sprints. It came even that Franco Pellizotti had to lead out for the Calzone. Strange at best.
After a seemingly long break from competition, which he largely spent on a yacht and some supermodels, he returned late 2013 and showcased his talent in Tour of Hainan, where he has shown everybody of what is to come: 2 stage wins, GC, Points & Young Rider Classification wins placed him ultimately just a bit outside of the Top 50 riders.
Whilst his home World Championships in Firenze were largely a non-performance for him, he got married to a Girl he discovered at the sidelines in a haste.
What's going on in 2014?
Schröder from Team Movistar has set heaven and earth in motion to obtain Calzone and build a decent sprint train. With the additions of Lobato, Sbargli and some other worthwhile domestiques, including Flecha for the really long races, Calzone is ready to discover new heights in sprinting for Movistar.

There is no final decision yet but it is close to sure that more than one leader will start at Catalunya due to its worth to us and the goal.

Goals are hard in comparison to your roster and not hard in comparison to your line-up at a specific race.
I cannot say "Hard Goal : Top 20 GC TDF" when I have Quintana, Valverde & Costa in my squad and argue "but i am only sending a sprinter line up for Calzone and Rafael Valls will be my best climber there". That's not how goals are working.
Or for your team: No matter if you are sending Nibali or not Top 3 in a one-week stage race with mountains is a medium goal for you. You cannot say "Oh. Top 3 in P-N is an impossible goal because Nibali races T-A." What would a sponsor say to such an opinion?

Then again, U25 Young Rider Clas. is probably the easiest goal of all time.
Of all time.
