Well done, looks like he can win thus thing, must be pretty hard with races across the year, you can't specialize, many will be caught out of form I think. |

Thanks for all the comments guys
It's really noticeable how many more comments people are putting stories now, even compared to this time last year. Really boost confidence and motivation, so thanks for everything, even a "nice result".
@hobbit
Will not win this race, might be lucky and bag a cheeky stage 5 win. It's gonna be a long tough season, but if Lasnik can go this well on 4 fitness and Bad rhythm i'm very excited.

I could repeat my recently posted comment to Mre in his story. So you either check that comment in The Comeback or you read a shortened version of it here:
You're a freak loving the detailed blogs, previews and stuff. You have some nice things going here, hopefully you will stick to it til your goals are achieved

Tour Mediterraneen
Stage 4: Rousset - Toulon Mont Faron
144km to go - The Queen stage begins. It's all about that final climb up the Mont Faron, we will see the best going wheel to wheel up there.
141km - The first attacks come from Damuseau (ARG), Madrazo (KAT) and Guillou (BSE).
139km - Taborre (VIN), Wegmann (GRM), Florencio (KAT) and Wurf (CAN) also make the leaders, forming a 7 man breakaway
80km - The break reaches it's maximum gap of 4'25. AG2R and FDJ are keeping close control at the front.
45km - The IS is taken by Wurf, with Damuseau and Wegmann following. The gap is down to 2'36 with Saxo Bank and Astana pushing hard
20km - Landa (EUS) attacks! The gap is only 1'28 as the race hits the penultimate climb
15km - Daniel Moreno goes!!! Big moment as the major favorite kicks early
13km - Wegmann leads through the KoM. Moreno is 51" behind, and the Peloton a further 30" behind
6km - At the start of the final climb here is the situation. Florencio, Wegmann, Madrazo and Taborre lead the race. 32" behind are Moreno, Damuseau, Wurf, Guillou and Landa. An 18 man group follows 46" back. The Peloton is another 44" down.
4km - Moreno kicks from the lead group. None of them even look to follow the main man
1500m - Moreno has the win in the bag. Riblon opens a gap on his group. Lasnik and Cataldo move together to follow the GC leader
FINISH Daniel Moreno takes a comfortable victory! Riblon gains some seconds with 2nd place, and Cataldo is 3rd.

Another great stage. That final climb is steep and i was really at the limit when we hit the finish line. It felt awesome being up the front end, and i was with Cataldo all the way to the line, even if i couldn't get past. I said Top20 was a posibility, and hey i'm now 17th. The final day is long and hard, and i don't know if i'll be able to hold on. I'm certainly going to give it everything and hope i can shock the big names.

@selwink - well above expectations
@welker - well above expectations
@baia - Stage 5 is a lot tougher, and Tom is getting tired. But if he can keep it going who knows what could happen
@sutty - you know my answer
@masterb - It's only race number 3 for the team. Long long way to go, but yes he is. That's what happens when you are undisputed team leader.
Will get the final Tour Med stage out today, and hopefully Tour du Haut Var as well. Yay for the messed up form of the early season.

Tour Mediterraneen
Stage 5: Bandol - Grasse
198km to go - Here we go. The end of a great 5 days racing is a tough one, with some serious and steep climbs. Then the final 1.5km are sharply uphill just in case things were too easy.
193km - 5 riders attack. Salerno (CAN) leads the way, with Sicard (EUS), Nuyens (GRM), Taborre (VIN) and Florencio (KAT) tagged to his wheel
116km - The leaders reach their maximum advantage of 9'15
104km - Hivert (SOJ) takes a tumble. Soft landing on the grass and quickly back into the pack with no problems.
95km - The first KoM is taken by Taborre, followed by Florencio and Salerno. The gap is dropping now down to 7'05
48km - The second KoM is also taken by Taborre, followed by Florencio and Nuyens. The gap has shrunk to 4'13, driven by Astana and AG2R
29km - At the base of the final climb the gap is down to 3'13
23km - No surprises as Moreno attacks!
17km - Over the top things have got busy and changed. Salerno leads solo by 14". The rest of the break makes up E2, and leads E3 Moreno by 16". E4 is a solo riblon 33" down. E5 is made up of Kessiakoff, Kennaugh and Barguil 24" behind. E6 is Zoidl, Dupont, Tiralongo and Agnoli 33" behind. The Peloton is only 17" more seconds down, and includes Cataldo and Lasnik
3km - The front 5 groups join up in time to sprint. E6 has fallen back into the peloton, and Lasnik jumps away with Cataldo.
1000m - Moreno eases away from the front group, while Cataldo and Lasnik are slipping back towards the Peloton
FINISH Daniel Moreno doubles up on wins! Barguil and Kennaugh top off the podium spots. Riblon comfortably defends his GC.

Wow i'm tired. That final day was tough. AG2R and Katusha put down a fast pace most of the time and it hurt a lot. That final climb didn't go as expected. I missed the main guys moves and was playing catch up most of the way. Not saying i could have gone with them but i could have done better. Still moved up a place to 16th in GC which is a very good result. Really getting a lot of peoples attention now, several teams sniffing around our team bus today. I also take a large lead in the LFMT as well, nice bonus. I'll save anything more for a blog, which i'll post before Haut Var in a few days.

Short Reflections
So here i am, caught in small gap of rest between two tough ass races. The Tour Mediterraneen ended on the 10th, and Haut Var begins on the 16th. It's not really long enough to fully rest up and retrain, so i've been doing short sharp rides to keep loose and in form. This week i've ventured no further than Oudenaard which is around 100km total distance. Usually i'll go further, as far as Ghent or even Dunkirk, which is over 150km total distance. Doing this a few times a week is pretty good training. I can fit in a variety of drills and terrains in a short amount of time, which is pretty handy.
The Tour Mediterraneen really was something special. Not just being with some big names, but matching and even beating them! An amazing experience for me. You could see in the closing phases the shock as they noticed this 21 year old Brit rookie. Kessiakoff's face when i passed him in the finishing straight on stage 3 was priceless, and i don't know if he'll ever forgive me for it. Just missing out on a podium would have been terrible if not for the level of the guys i was beating. Just a brilliant 5 days racing. Not much more i could do to show my talents.
Haut Var is quite different. It's only two stages long, so you have to treat it like two one-day races that are back-to-back. Leave the moves as late as possible on day 1, then give it everything on day 2. This would be much easier if not for the riders who are going. Alejandro Valverde, Nacer Bouhanni and Filippo Pozzato are all confirmed starters. Goddamnit...
Otherwise not much else to say. Roubaix, and especially my flat are bloody cold this time of year. Everythings pretty good to be honest. Still getting used to the routine and lifestyle, it really is different from anything Amateur. I've got a big gap of more than a month between Haut Var and the Crit Int so i'm sure i'll have more to say next time i blog.
Check ya laters.

A fantastic start already!
I did expect a few more French one day races to be in the program but there you go.
He looks to be good for the Criterium International and the Ardennes stage race, even though that is a while off.
Also....I hope the team can get his flat heated up, still fuel can't be as expensive in France as it is England. |

How long will Roubaix Lille Métropole be able to secure Lasnik?

@rider - Most French one-days are flat, and Tom's skills are hills which lend more towards stage races. I am excited for the Ardennes race as well, not so much the Crit Int because it always gets a strong startlist of in form riders.
@baia - It's only a 1 year contract, so from July Tom will be available. Already Tom is attracting attention so the chances are that he will be moving on from RLM after the season. Remember if he finishes Top3 in the LFMT he will get a major contract offer
