Le Tour de France

As the road rose, so did we, as we managed to break tradition and be ever-present in the mountains.

Stage 11

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0237_zps6f268d75.jpg
Stage 11 was a time trial. This was a chance for Cam to gain time on the other favourites. But first, Mathieu came out and took a provisional 6th when he went out.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0243_zps98303e89.jpg
Then, it was Cam's turn. He was able to get an amazing 2nd place, just 37" behind Tejay van Garderen.

Stage 12

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0261_zpsa6a477f8.png
Another sprint stage, but Matthew had to come from waaaaay back, and was only good for a circumstantially impressive 6th place.

Stage 13

Another flat stage, but with the break going the distance, there were no trains to follow. Cam was our best in 30th, while Gossy was 34th.

Stage 14

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0275_zpsad26df19.jpg
A hilly stage - good news for us. Gerro went with the other 2 main punchers Gilbert and Sagan.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0278_zps96fda491.jpg
As they caught the breakaway, the former GC leader was unfortunately a bit burned out. it would be his last major appearance at this year's Tour.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0279_zps65862ece.jpg
Fortunately his sprint was able to gain him some positions.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0281_zpsb2c1abfa.jpg
5th was the final result.

Stage 15

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0286_zpsefe1912f.jpg
Now we were finally up in the mountains. Mathieu again went with the early attacks.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0291_zps2702df95.jpg
Cam got in the favourites' group before attacking with Van Garderen and Valverde. He was only able to take 17th tough.

Stage 16

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0300_zps185e5689.jpg
Again Cam was hanging out in the main group. He finished 15th, in a bunch of riders. 11th in the GC at this point.

Stage 17

Another time trial, and this time a mountain one! Cameron was only good for 27th this time though. Really shocking, and also losing a GC place.

Stage 18

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0317_zps67aae47c.jpg
Once again Mathieu was active in going with the first guys to attack.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0318_zps770eb893.jpg
He wasn't up to it, but fortunately Cam was up there once again.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0329_zps18657de3.jpg
And needing to redeem himself after the day before, he did more than that, joining the first real group.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0334_zps6ddbee2c.jpg
Unfortunately the finish was just a bit too far away, but our boy still finished a brilliant 8th, and came back into 11th overall.

Stage 19

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0347_zps2043d416.jpg
Cam wasn't with the first guys this time, but he was by no means far back.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0349_zpsf83ac2be.jpg
Diego Johnson has already started working for our team it seems! He put in a pace which not only caused many riders to drop off the back, but also decreased the gap to those in front.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0354_zps5d713074.jpg
Cam ended up finishing in the main bunch, getting into the GC Top 10. Just one day to hold it now!

Stage 20

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0364_zpsa0c3b500.jpg
With Kreuziger crashing, Cam had a chance of moving up into 9th. But, Niemiec attacked, and as Kreuziger got back into the group, he might even have dropped into 11th.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0368_zpsc389958d.jpg
Fortunately Van Garderen was there, and he did some nice work.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0380_zpse03fe0e3.jpg
And again it's someone who isn't even on our team yet who saves the day! We can't wait to have you Diego Johnson! His sprint closed the gap just enough for Cam to keep 10th.

Stage 21

[/i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0386_zpsf879a6c3.jpg
We'd been out of the breakaway for too long. We sent Simon Clarke up there to finish off strong. We gave him one instruction - be first onto the Champs.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0387_zps00938966.jpg
Yes! Now to deliver Gossy to the finish line in a good place.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0389_zps53fc2cb6.jpg
Or not! The break still had a chance of staying away! Simon hopped on the wheel of fellow Aussie Michael Rogers and with TJ Slagter they went away.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0392_zps97eb6f4c.jpg
Gossy was on Kittel's wheel, but the three up front would contest the victory.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0393_zps7c50366a.jpg
Simon went fastest at the start of the sprint! Could he hold on?!?!?!?!

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/EPIC%202014/PCM0394_zpsd85095e2.jpg
YEEEESSS! It's the unlikeliest of wins on the unlikeliest of days, but Simon Clarke has done it! We've completed our goal twice in this race, now surely double points!

And so that's our Tour! Most at the Rocking Oger consider us to, all things considered, have been the most impressive team up in France. What do you guys think?

Finally, this sees us climb out of the relegation zone, and with a great margin too! Unfortunately that will also see Mathieu Favre leave the team at the end of the season, with 2 new arrivals already due to a misunderstanding of the rules.

UP! THE ROCKING OGER!

You must hate Favre, first you don't want to upgrade him, next you "accidently" don't want to give him a contract Pfft
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I love him! The thing is that I thought that you said I had to beat Euskaltel AND Argos so I thought I was down for sure, so I went for a 3rd rider. Also, I thought I'd agreed terms with Favre already Frown

While we're here, can I re-signs a rider who's left my team already?

Either way, you wouldn't have been able to sign a 3rd rider until you demoted.

What do you mean with the last question?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Cycleman123
I think I saw somewhere at the start that it was against the rules to sign a rider after he's already been on and then left your team. Is that true?

I don't think I had decided that yet, but it wouldn't make sense to not re-sign a rider, then pick him up as a free agent. The man-game may have a rule like that, maybe that's where you read it?

Already our second goal race of the season part. Let's see how it all unfolded in the Basque Country.

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0533_zpsf4b1f226.jpg
Jens Keukeleire joined the break to give us more tactical options and a way not to do work.

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0541_zpsc4bbd0fe.jpg
Unfortunately Michael missed the favourites. As the break was caught, our hopes of a Top 10 began to fade.

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0548_zps545d4bbe.jpg
Gerro was in the 3rd group with 10km to go. Therefore he would likely be in the Top 12 and his sprinting skills had us optimistic.

As other riders crossed the line and Simon's group was caught by some other riders, things weren't looking great. But of course the Aufrazian Champion came through and finished in 8th place.

Results have been scare lately but recently I have scored some points in the Basque Championship Series. This came surely as a surprise to me as I have had won the sprint of the bunch. Yeah, big surprise to you and me both, but I had great legs. Unfortunately, there were 11 riders ahead of me.

It also was a bit of a introduction ride to the Klasika Primavera, a race they talk about including next year to the EPIC circuit. I hope I can then perform similiar well next year.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/Basque/EHST-Prim-22_zpsd2fd14ad.jpg

Right now, I rank 29th in the Series with 15 points scored. Seems like my form is on a upward spiral. And hey, I might turn into a sprinter much like some fellow EPIC youngsters.

I have also been selected for the U23 World Championship Race. I hope to improve my kick & punch over the next few weeks to be of great help to my teammates and maybe get an opportunitiy for myself. But until then, I think I still have some late races left to cover for the Rocking Oger.

See you in Firenze!

Eneco Tour

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2423_42_56-Greenshot_zps9b3ddf8f.jpg

Unfortunately our Eneco Tour wasn't brilliant. Leigh Howard was able to get an 8th place on Stage 3, while Luke Durbridge (pictured above) took 6th on the time trial 5th Stage.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_54_32-Greenshot_zpsa67c4cf2.jpg
Leigh tried a long range attack on Stage 7 but finished 40th.

Vuelta a Espana

Stage 1

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0024_zps09a0eed3.png
A team time trial. Generally we're quite good at these, but unfortunately on the day we were only good for 8th.

Stage 5

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0090_zps1594c73a.jpg
Seb went in the break. Jens crashed. Very quiet few stages.

Stage 6

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0105_zps1c263ac5.jpg
Finally a flat stages. Michael was ready to pounce.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0106_zps135cbe8b.jpg
Daryl started his leadout from behind, but we were still looking good for a decent result.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0108_zps7a7578e4.jpg
Our main man would start from fourth.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0109_zps7d6ff0e0.jpg
But as soon as Michael was sent through, he started shooting towards the front.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0110_zps4aa03645.jpg
And victory! Michael Matthews took the stage victory! Daryl also finished 6th.

Stage 7

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0121_zpsebe586c8.jpg
Another flat stage, but we couldn't quite get a good leadout. Michael finished 6th.

Stage 9

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0143_zps8d0523af.jpg
Nothing for us technically, but new signing Mitch Birt took a phenomenal stage win.

Stage 10

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0164_zpsa83d49d7.jpg
Great news for us looking forward as Mitch took ANOTHER solo win. Two in a row!

Stage 12

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0249_zps1596eebd.jpg
Brilliant stage for us as Allan took 2nd and Michael 4th.

Stage 13

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0257_zps8f56d02b.jpg
The break was able to last for a while, meaning that our boys started sprinting from further back.

Pieter and Michael could only finish in 15th and 16th.

Stage 17

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0318_zps8124ad50.jpg
Another sprint stage (finally). We made a train and looked for another win.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0321_zpsf98f7efe.jpg
Michael was away with a gap. Could this be it?

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0325_zps645d1245.jpg
No! Stef Clement held on from the breakaway, while our man took 4th on the line.

Stage 21

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0390_zps39b0ee40.jpg
We made a great train. We seemed a good chance.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0394_zps9c4ab80a.jpg
Unfortunately there was a true roadblock and our guys couldn't get through.

Daryl finished 7th and Michael 9th.

So, that's the end of the last Grand Tour of the year. Only one stage win, but some valuable points gained.

Unfortunately the race was not televised due to logistical errors, but Aidis Kruopis finished 8th and Matty Goss came through in 15th.

GP Quebec

Svein went up in the initial attack to help us in the long term.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0141.jpg
Simon, as always, was straight in the attacks. He joined the que.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0145.jpg
He then escaped and was off on his way.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0148.jpg
Gerrans vs the peloton. Reminiscent of a success on Stage 2 of the Tour.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0149.jpg
Unfortunately he was caught by Gilbert. Still a chance though.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0156.jpg
But sadly Gerro didn't have the legs. What could he do?

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0158.jpg
Eventually he came through in 9th. Not ideal, but good nonetheless.

GP Montreal

Unfortunately Simon got dropped and our best rider was Luke Durbridge in 54th.

Hola,

before I head back home to my basque country and will ride for Team Colombia, I wanted of course to prove my worth to Orica GreenEdge one last time. It was a great time here at the team, it's just that World Tour is a bit too early for me. I'm caught between two sides; I thank Orica GreenEdge and I support them in the relegation battle as it is my duty as a domestique, but of course my heart will always be basque. As such, I'd like to dream...

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah164/trekbmc1/PCM0191.jpg

It's been some busy weeks. Can I consider the latest basque racing series as a kickstarter for me? It certainly helps my confidence and my racing attitude. I've been featured in Tour of Beijing and some other races.

At the Japan Cup, where my team has a goal, I was told to go into the breakaway in order to keep the pressure from Orica GreenEdge. In this way my teammates could save some energy and were relived from the work in the peloton. Unfortunately other teams thought of that and wanted to catch us. So I continued on my own and fought out there. Some great moments for me and I received some applause.
I even got later the combativity award because I took over the pace when the peloton ultimately reeled me back in. I tried my best to catch up to my fellow Spaniards but I had to go eventually and finished way beyond the main riders. My teammates then scored a dazzling four places in the reduced bunch sprint for the remaining Top 10 places. Wow.

A great day for me and the team manager gave praise to me too! Lucky me I can tell you that. My moustache is all stiff in moments like that.

i57.tinypic.com/ta0k1x.jpg

I've been also featured in this breakaway on stage 5 of Tour of Burgos. Nice times. Finished with fellow basque Gorka Izagirre and I told him that I'd like to get to Euskaltel - Euskadi someday. At the time of signing my new contract, I was confident though that Euskaltel would stay for sure in World Tour.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/wc%202013/2014-11-2223_24_50-Greenshot_zps04fa39ad.jpg

I have been also selected to ride the U23 World Championship competitions. In the time trial, I suck pretty much so no luck there. Maybe I'll get something out of the U23 Road Race.

End of Season Review

So with the season over, here are the reviews of the races we actually did stuff in.

Tour of Beijing

Stage 2

In a congested sprint, Michael finished 8th.

Tour de Vendee

A good leadout position, but could we fight past the breakaway?

A good sprint from Gossy as he held on for 3rd. A great race for us with Michael in 5th and Aidis in 9th.

Paris-Tours

Not a great day, but two in the Top 10 with Gerro 6th and Gossy 9th.

Chrono des Nations

Svein shockingly finished 2nd, just 37 seconds away from a hard goal. Durbo also finished equal 4th.

Japan Cup

In his last race for the team, Gorka put in one of the best performances of the season. He went solo for 150km and even after that he was able to help out a lot for our leaders.

Simon was in the main favourites' group but unfortunately it wouldn't be enough for our podium goal.

Absolutely amazing. Gerro, Alba, Daryl and Simon Clarke finishing consecutively in places 5 to 8. Still no goal though, but a good end to the team's season!

Team Time Trial

Being led by Svein and Durbo, we were pretty disappointing in 6th.

Under 23 Time Trial

A good day in the saddle for Turbo Durbo meant he finished 2nd, 38" behind North Korean sensation Kim Po-Ding.

Elite Time Trial

Not a good day for the Orica boys with Svein the best in 29th @2'15. Rohan Dennis did well for Australia though, and who know, he might even be riding in our colours next year.

Under 23 Road Race

Nope, nothing. Next season's signing Mitch Birt finished 29th.

Gerro was one of the main favourites and did what he does best, attacking on the downhill as we teach him.

He continued following other riders as he stayed towards the front.

He launched his sprint first, which maybe wasn't a great idea. He finished 7th in the same time as Bronze.
