Not a huge amount of races left but Jellybelly has no reason/business to be racing in the likes of Bulgaria anyway!

@ all: Shame indeed but The Rider is right: we have no reason to race like mad men for this season end So I'll spead up the race report so that we can move together into 2013 planning. We have important decisions to make here!
STAGE 1 – Prologue – 5km
“South America has been a lot of fun but is good to be back home! We have a tough race to ride: category 1 means stronger competition and a prologue plus an ITT is not the dream. Guys, this might be your last race after almost 6 months non stop riding.
There is no more time to save energy. You give it all! Let’s target a Top 10 and the KoM.”
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Rory Sutherland | 7'34 | 2 | Jeremy Vennell | + 3 | 3 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 6 | 4 | Giorgio Brambilla | + 7 | 5 | Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg | + 11 | 30 | Charles Bradley Huff | s.t. |
STAGE 2
“Tomas you are on the favorite list today, so wait for the final. Sutherland is the wheel to keep.
Charles, Ken, Jeremy and Sean you go in the break to collect points.”
Hanson makes the break and passes 1st on the 2 Mountain sprint. So he will have a nice jersey tomorrow.
But it could be nicer as the pack is not closing the gap. So we will have a 4 men sprint today… with our team sprinter!
Hanson is perfectly positioned when the sprint is launched.
And when it ends too!
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Ken Hanson | 4h05'49 | 2 | Carlos Andres Martinez Montero | s.t. | 3 | Martins Renato Seabra | s.t. | 4 | Andrei Krasilnikau | s.t. | 5 | Thomas Rabou | + 1'27 |
STAGE 3
“Ken you have been perfect yesterday. Our objective hasn’t change yet, it is still a Top 10 but KoM might prove difficult as Ken can’t be in the break away today. Anyway we don’t have the team to control the race on such a difficult terrain. Charles, you can try the break. The rest of the tea is to stay in the bunch and wait to see if their work would be needed. Ken and Tomas being co-leader now.”
A quality break and nobody chasing. Our team has to do something.
Everybody but Hanson and Alberio was powered out before the final and the break will hold till the line. Moreover many small breaks in the final sprint make big difference in the GC. And Hanson looses his lead for 14’’.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Byron Patricio Guama De La Cruz | 4h31'56 | 2 | Carter Jones | + 17 | 3 | Jaime Vergara Caro | s.t. | 4 | Zakkari Dempster | s.t. | 5 | Charlie Avis | s.t. | 16 | Tomas Alberio | + 1'13 | 38 | Ken Hanson | + 1'54 |
STAGE 4 – Flat
“Completely flat stage today. Ken you go for intermediate bonus, few secs might do the difference for a Top 10! You are our leader now.”
Hanson manages 1st for the 1st intermediate but nothing for the second. Massive sprint to close the stage.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Tyler Day | 3h46'21 | 2 | Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg | s.t. | 3 | Cole House | s.t. | 4 | Alejandro Alberto Borrajo | s.t. | 5 | Jeremy Vennell | s.t. | 16 | Ken Hanson | s.t. |
STAGE 5 – ITT – 13km
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Rory Sutherland | 18'23 | 2 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 12 | 3 | Jeremy Vennell | + 15 | 4 | Ignacio Sarabia Diaz | + 39 | 5 | Thomas Rabou | s.t. | 73 | Charles Bradley Huff | s.t. |
STAGE 6 – Flat
“Ken, you are 11th with no time bonus to pick but many small hills at the end of the stage. Tactic is simple: the team ensures no break takes more than 1’ on the flat, then Ken, you attack in the hills, this will secure your KoM and if not chase might open you a place in a Top 10. Tomas, f you see Ken is too tired you can attack in the latest hills for a stage win.”
Hanson attacks and secure his jersey but is chased. Alberio tries later on but is caught too. However Dempster loosing 5’ opens a Top 10 GC for Hanson!
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg | 3h49'06 | 2 | Jeremy Vennell | s.t. | 3 | Giorgio Brambilla | s.t. | 4 | Alexandr Pliuschin | s.t. | 5 | Cole House | s.t. | 22 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. |
FINAL CLASSIFICATION
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Rory Sutherland | 16h41'33 | 2 | Jeremy Vennell | + 28 | 3 | Darren Lapthorne | + 32 | 4 | Charlie Avis | + 34 | 5 | Byron Patricio Guama De La Cruz | + 42 | 6 | Oscar Sevilla Ribera | + 43 | 7 | Carlos Andres Martinez Montero | + 48 | 8 | Darwin Ferney Pantoja Tovar | + 51 | 9 | Guy East | + 54 | 10 | Ken Hanson | + 56 |
Spoiler Points
Rank | Name | General | 1 | Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg | 68 | 2 | Jeremy Vennell | 63 | 3 | Giorgio Brambilla | 53 | 4 | Rory Sutherland | 51 | 5 | Ken Hanson | 39 |
Mountain
Rank | Name | General | 1 | Ken Hanson | 40 | 2 | Tom Southam | 24 | 3 | Oscar Clark | 20 |

@ sutty68 & welker3257: Utah has been a rather good race indeed. Still I should have done better sacrifying Alberio for Hanson earlier in the race...
We have added three 1-day races to our calendar with no hope of result but to improve Ovechkin’s fitness before the US Pro Cycling Challenge.
Spoiler Dutch Food Valley Classic
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Bram Tankink | 4h23'53 | 2 | Xavier Florencio Cabre | s.t. | 3 | Dominique Cornu | s.t. | 4 | Bartosz Huzarski | s.t. | 5 | Daniele Colli | s.t. | 37 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
Puchard Ministra Obrony Narodowej
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabien Bacquet | 4h04'08 | 2 | Lucas Schädlich | s.t. | 3 | Tomasz Smolen | s.t. | 4 | Stefan Schäfer | s.t. | 5 | René Weissinger | s.t. | 29 | Ken Hanson | s.t. |
Châteauroux Classic de l’Indre
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Daniele Colli | 4h44'33 | 2 | Bobbie Traksel | s.t. | 3 | Daniel Schorn | s.t. | 4 | Mickael Delage | s.t. | 5 | Rafaâ Chtioui | s.t. | 68 | Ken Hanson | s.t. |
“3 hilly stages where our goal will be to limit time lost; a couple a flat stage with no interest for our team; a prologue and an ITT where Artem should target the win so as to close a Top 10 or a Top 5 overall”.
STAGE 1 – Prologue
Not being at the top of his form, Ovechkin is just an outsider today. Still his 10th place is very disappointing.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Alexandr Pliuschin | 10'37 | 2 | Zachary Bell | + 2 | 3 | David Pell | + 5 | 4 | Jeremy Vennell | + 6 | 5 | Giorgio Brambilla | s.t. | 10 | Artem Ovechkin | + 8 |
STAGE 2 – Flat
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | 4h17'07 | 2 | Robert Förster | s.t. | 3 | Hilton Clarke | s.t. | 4 | Giorgio Brambilla | s.t. | 5 | David Pell | s.t. | 29 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
STAGE 3 – Hilly
First difficult stage today. We got Miller in the break. We let Pliuschin and Pedraza go, relying on Movistar strong team to close the gap on the flat.
But when Moreno Bazan attacks with his team mate Brenes and Justo, Ovechkin pushes hard to close the gap. Brenes then does most of the job for his team mate, Justo also participating. Ovechkin is trying to take back his breath.
When Brenes is tiering, Moreno attacks and Justo counters. Ovechkin has just enough power to close the gap with Brenes in his wheel.
The time gap with the break, that Pliuschin has now joined is down to 1’ when Moreno attacks again with Justo countering. Ovechkin has to let go and we ask Miller to wait his leader and to use all his last strength.
It is not enough to close the gap and instead few favorites such as Rabou and Boily are joining our group, attacking from behind. Miller is spent as the break is cought and Ovechkin does a fantastic job to stick with the favorites. But too late as the 4 strong men have attacked before the junction and are going for victory.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Javier Moreno Bazan | 5h07'37 | 2 | Alexandr Pliuschin | s.t. | 3 | Tiego Gasparotto Justo | s.t. | 4 | Walter Fernando Pedraza Morales | s.t. | 5 | Jaime Vergara Caro | + 1'29 | 17 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
STAGE 4 – ITT – 19km
“We did very well yesterday and today is the day, the ITT is flat and Artem, you are the big favorite!”
Passing the intermediate down 9’’, Ovechkin is accelerating till the end.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Jason McCartney | 27'18 | 2 | Artem Ovechkin | + 2 | 3 | Ignacio Sarabia Diaz | + 7 | 4 | Michael Friedman | + 9 | 5 | Zachary Bell | + 12 |
STAGE 5 – Hilly
The break, with Hamilton, reaches the line today. Ovechkin sticking with the best GC men behind.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Ryan Roth | 4h48'48 | 2 | Ormeno Challe | + 25 | 3 | Alexander Boyd | + 2'19 | 4 | Sundai Tshabalala | s.t. | 5 | Mauricio Ortega Ramirez | s.t. | 7 | Nic Hamilton | s.t. |
STAGE 6 – Hilly
A group with all favorites arrives for the last 2 kilometers up hill sprint. Ovechkin's print capacity haven't improved...
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Javier Moreno Bazan | 6h08'39 | 2 | Tiego Gasparotto Justo | + 16 | 3 | Walter Fernando Pedraza Morales | s.t. | 4 | Michael Friedman | + 27 | 5 | David Boily | s.t. | 16 | Artem Ovechkin | + 1'14 |
STAGE 7 – Flat
Massive sprint to conclude this race. Good enough for our 1'' Top 5
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | 3h38'26 | 2 | Keven Lacombe | s.t. | 3 | Michael Friedman | s.t. | 4 | Johnnie Walker | s.t. | 5 | David Pell | s.t. | 37 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
FINAL CLASSIFICATION
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Javier Moreno Bazan | 24h42'28 | 2 | Tiego Gasparotto Justo | + 30 | 3 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 35 | 4 | Walter Fernando Pedraza Morales | + 1'03 | 5 | Artem Ovechkin | + 2'29 | 6 | David Boily | + 2'30 |

@ sutty68 & welker3257: 5th overall is great and we manage vey good the hilly stage. But finishing 2nd in the ITT is very disapointing... Would have prefer stage win and Top 10 which would have sound more logical.
So after an empty September, we registred to a couple of 1-day race to prepare Brazil our last race as Jelly Belly Cycling team!
Spoiler Coppa Sabatini
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Michele Scarponi | 4h43'11 | 2 | Giovanni Visconti | + 11 | 3 | Enrico Gasparotto | + 27 | 4 | Manuel Antonio Cardoso Leal | s.t. | 5 | Michael Rogers | s.t. | 26 | Artem Ovechkin | + 1'33 |
Nationale Sluitingprijs
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Benoît Drujon | 3h54'58 | 2 | Simon Geschke | s.t. | 3 | Nico Eeckhout | s.t. | 4 | Jure Kocjan | s.t. | 5 | Michael Van Staeyen | s.t. | 102 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
STAGE 1 – TTT
First Team Time Trial for our team this season. Well, I guess I should have run more!
Rank | Team | Time | 1 | Jelly Belly Cycling | 13'55 | 2 | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | + 4 | 3 | Colombia - Coldeportes | + 13 | 4 | Trek Livestrong U23 | s.t. | 5 | Movistar Team Ct | + 39 |
STAGE 2 – Flat
The team has to work hard to keep the break under control with such a huge wind. But we succeed.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Floris Goesinnen | 3h16'44 | 2 | Zakkari Dempster | s.t. | 3 | Bernard Sulzberger | s.t. | 4 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | s.t. | 5 | Giorgio Brambilla | s.t. | 40 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
STAGE 3
“Artem, you have two days with hills to pass. Today is particularly difficult and you are only a remote outsider. But you wear the yellow jersey!”
Ovechkin did well sticking with De Maar, one of the favorite.
Unfortunately, Duarte was far ahead…
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 5h57'26 | 2 | Marc De Maar | + 1'33 | 3 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. | 4 | José Antonio Alarcon Morales | + 1'46 | 5 | Kristian House | + 2'14 |
STAGE 4 – Hilly
“Artem, you did a good job. Try to stay with Duarte, we may have opportunity on mountain stages and you will recover time on the final ITT!”
Ovechkin did a fantastic job sticking to Duarte who only gains a few sec in the final sprint!
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 5h59'00 | 2 | Artem Ovechkin | + 17 | 3 | Marc De Maar | s.t. | 4 | José Antonio Alarcon Morales | + 49 | 5 | Javier Moreno Bazan | s.t. |
STAGE 5 – Mountain
“The last summit is still very far from the arrival, so it should be easy not to loose time today! It is nice to see your name up to the 3rd place in the favorite list though.”
Hamilton goes in the break with the hope to gain mountain jersey, but he is just to weak and cannot gain any point. He finishes ahead of the pack but far from his best break away companions and behind Miller who attacks on the flat to gain 1’ over the pack.
Everything goes as planned for Ovechkin who safely arrives in the pack.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Carlos Alberto Ospina Hernandez | 4h43'34 | 2 | Joseph Lewis | s.t. | 3 | Kyle Wamsley | s.t. | 4 | Darren Lapthorne | s.t. | 5 | Renato Aparecido Santos | s.t. | 14 | Carson Miller | + 5'11 |
STAGE 6 – Flat
Just boring
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | 4h04'27 | 2 | Alejandro Alberto Borrajo | s.t. | 3 | Hilton Clarke | s.t. | 4 | Zakkari Dempster | s.t. | 5 | Bernard Sulzberger | s.t. | 16 | Artem Ovechkin | s.t. |
STAGE 7
“Today is our last chance to close part of th gap to Duarte. Artem, attack from the bottom of the climb and hope Duarte let you some space."
Ovechkin creates a short gap and we were all hoping for the best, until
Great day for Ovechkin non the less, he is beaten by much stronger. No regret.
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 3h49'03 | 2 | Artem Ovechkin | + 33 | 3 | Martins Renato Seabra | + 1'32 | 4 | Marc De Maar | + 1'42 | 5 | Darren Lill | + 2'21 |
STAGE 8 – ITT – 20km
“It is our last racing day for this year, and I expect nothing but a win. Artem you are the big favorite, just do it!”
At the intermediate, Ovechkin is 5’’ ahead. And he can accelerate pretty strong to the end. Great win to close the year!
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Artem Ovechkin | 32'45 | 2 | Marc De Maar | + 38 | 3 | Michael Creed | + 48 | 4 | Ben Jacques-Maynes | + 50 | 5 | Oscar Sevilla Ribera | s.t. |
FINAL CLASSIFICATION
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 32h17'57 | 2 | Artem Ovechkin | + 1'30 | 3 | Marc De Maar | + 3'27 | 4 | Javier Moreno Bazan | + 8'58 | 5 | Carlos Alberto Ospina Hernandez | + 9'13 |
Spoiler 6 | Oscar Sevilla Ribera | + 9'43 | 7 | Martins Renato Seabra | + 9'59 | 8 | Darren Lill | + 10'13 | 9 | Jeffry Louder | + 11'00 | 10 | Rafael Anibal Montiel Cuellar | + 11'23 |

@ sutty68: yeap and with Catroviejo joining I expect to become the TT king next season
@ welker3257: it will be very hard to compete for WT promotion imho, team is still a little weak both in number and quality and more importantly we may very well struggle with invites once again But we will do our best.
Now is time for planning next season and there are important decisions to be made.
New season, new team, new banner
Well not as good as the previous one as I did it by myself. But the message remains
First what strategy for requesting invitations?
Should we ask for WT races? If yes which one? How to select?
Should be go for 1-day races this season?
Should I ask invite to all 2.X races?
Second how to organize the team?
I would split the team in 3 groups of 6, each group racing 3 periods (inc. 2 consecutive ones otherwise it is not possible to deal with training workload). Each group having the same training program (in case we need 6+8 riders, I don’t mind taking teammates out of form from the 3rd group, even out of form, to make the number).
Are you ok with this approach or do you have a better alternative to suggest?
Third question what to do with our budget?
We have a budget of 100k and riders salaries of 75k. I plan to hire a top Trainer that will cost around 30k. We will also have to recruit an agent to look for a new sponsor.
Should we hire an extra staff? If so, another coach to optimize various skills in the team and train more than 8 riders or a scout? And how much to spend?
Or should we keep the money so as to double our riders salary for next season?

Well first of all, class to see that your 5 new signings are in your top 6 riders
Now I think that certainly for the start of the season it's a bit soon for you to be applying for the World Tour. However, given how your team has grown and the massive improvements, you should easily have your applications accepted to the 2.X races, and I think that you should stick with them for this season, though to start apply for the ones you want, cause I believe you will get them
As for 1 day races, I'd suggest anything flat where Roelandts can seriously challenge, and I'd seriously suggest applying for the Chrono des Nations at the end of the season cause of your 3 good time trialists Beyond that, I can't see why not.
As for organizing the team, it's up to you, though I'd set goals for the big riders to aim at
As for the rest of the dosh, I'd advise a trainer, you've guys with a lot of potential there and a trainer will do them the world of good |

JELLY BELLY WRAP UP
Let’s begin with our Palmares detailing our 22 victories and other Points and KoM contests:
No 1-day race but two wins in category 1, Alberio in Poland GC and Hanson’s stage in Utah, not the one I would have expected!
Our classifications are disappointing though with Ovechkin only 18th and Jelly Belly 43rd. Alberio ranking 25th is the only great satisfaction on this front (I loved Colombia ).
On the WT front, Scarponi was astonishing smashing fantastic results and logically grabbing the number 1 ranking and Cyanide trophee!
Time to say good by to Jelly Belly who has been a great supportive sponsor and to Bernard Van Ulden and Sergio Hernandez.
And to welcome our new sponsor.
My job is now to cement our new team. (I just introduce it previous post )
@ all: Thanks and nice to see you all agree for once I'll propose tentative schedule in my next post according to your plan (so we are kissing goodbye the dream of WT next season )
