Based on the mountain stages so far, Valverde and Quintana are climbing better than anyone except Froome, so it makes perfect sense that they're making the race hard to tire out their rivals.
That way Quintana and Valverde can rise in the GC as much as possible

This. Plus Sky has no interest to pull back that breakaway, no dangerous rider there.

Didn't expect the race to be so fast today. The lads are keen to get this over and done with. |

And of course with Valverde far back on GC he can attack early on the Ventoux to force a chase and still get some freedom. That's how he won the Dauphiné a while back

Valverde no, he is so far behind that his chances are gone.
Quintana is also pretty far behind and i think Froome will leave that to Mollema and Contador, its after all also their place on the line. |

Yeah but probably even more so for the stage win for either Quintana and Valverde.
Stupid if Movi didn't take action, even though Froome probably is the strongest anyway, but they will at least have a very good opportunity for at stage win at Ventoux

If Movistar wouldn't make pace we might have a chance that the Sky-train will fail, now they'll just enter the climb quite fresh and make any attacks unpossible. Expect Froome to take 2-3 minutes on his rivals. |

Indeed, must be a new record.
I'll be seriously pissed if they take more breaks when the climb has started.
