Schools Cycling League - Event 3
Giro Del Trentino - Stage 1
Todays stage is unlikely to give us a final victor, however it'll be a good indication of how the various teams are feeling, so expect a good showdown!
Manchester are the first team to set off today, They finish in 20'18 after a tough second part of the race.
North Wales bring a full contingent of riders out to Italy, with immediate success, they shave 19" off the time of Manchester to take over as provisional leaders.
Never looking comfortable in this race format, the Birmingham team suffers today, losing 1'04 behind the time of North Wales. Big losses at this early point in the race.
One of our most northern teams this season; Cumbria, have had a fantastic start to the season, Today is not great but also not critical, losing 15" to the best time so far.
If one midlands team looked uncomfortable, the second to ride are anything but! Leicester fly around the course and lower the bar by yet another 3" to move into the provisional lead. Can they be beaten?
Instantly! Cardiff lack a super powered climber, but they clearly set their targets on stage 1! This time will not be beaten today, and Cardiff will don the leaders jersey ahead of tomorrows stage!
The Yorkshire based Leeds team are hopeful their climbing duo can deliver later in the week, a decent showing today sets them up well for later on, +17"
The late entrants into the division have enjoyed the early season thus far, today will see them lose just 10 seconds, with the time of Birmingham looking steadily more catastrophic!
It's a 22 second deficit for the men in black. Bristol can be reasonably happy with that base, though will probably look to the breaks from here on in the race.
Despite bringing just 5 men to the race, London will be fairly happy with this performance. They drop just 15" to land well within the main pack.
The luck of the Irish was seemingly missing this afternoon, they finish the day 11th overall after slipping badly in the final sector. A non catastrophic deficit of 29" is without doubt recoverable, but it's not the start they will have been hoping for.
Last but one off the ramp come the riders of Cornwall. It's a cracking second half for them, and they finish joint 3rd on the stage. The advantage of numbers becoming clear once more.
The Norfolk boys were last off the ramp, however, despite people having high hopes for the lads in red, it turned into something of a disaster, losing 48" to finish up 12th.

Schools Cycling League Event 3
Giro Del Trentino - Stage 2
3km: We see the days move coming from Davies of Bristol, he's tracked by Irishman Jameson in this early attack on the pack
5km: Leicester TTist Jack Kenyon is the next man to make a move, he joins the duo out in front very quickly
8km: Evans of London, and Scott from the Birmingham team bridge the gap and seem to complete the break of the day, as their lead is nover over 1'30
26km: Just 1km to the intermediate sprint, and the break seem keen to contend the points, Davies leads out, followed by Evans and Kenyon.
27km: Davies holds on to take the 6points on offer. Behind him it's the same order, with Evans 2nd and Kenyon 3rd.
32km: The break is beginning the slopes of the days first climb. Un-categorised this will be no more than a taster of what is to come...
50km: Several teams seen happy to help the chase today, as the climbing orientated teams hope to contest their first opportunity of the season.
65km: The gap is falling now, down to 5'37 for the breakaway.
75km: We pass the halfway point on the day with a gap of 4'49. The big challenge of the day finishes in 40km time, before a second hard climb with a summit finish to the stage
95km: With over 50km to go we see the first move behind the break. Scotlands Peters follows the wheel of Gary Jackson from Norwich. The latter is an outside hope for today, so it's interesting to see a move so early in the day from him.
50km remaining: The duo have the break in sight as we head towards the big climb of the day, they have 3'32 from E1 to the Peloton, who are well controlled by Cardiff
45km remaining: Before we even begin the main climb we see a few guys falling away. No big names, but several teams lose a man they may have been hoping to utilise
40kmRem: A credit to the italian cycling fans, it just goes to show the popularity of this sport, that even when the race is only schoolboys, they still get out in force to cheer, and are perfectly happy to give guys the morale boost that comes from seeing your name painted on the tarmac beneath you!
37KmRem: It seems Jackson may have his sights on the KotM. After moving across to the break, he leads the charge for the first cat summit, coming in 1.5km
35Rem: Yes, he takes the points and has literally crippled the break with that move. He has 3'28 to the pack, but he may well find himself solo from now on...
30km: Seeing the gap growing to our lone leader, Londons Sharel Kuptrei decides he's done enough waiting. The first attack by a big favourite comes 4km from the penultimate summit
29km: The move is tracked by a 4some of Anderson(IRE) Taylor(CMB), Clark(PLY) and Reynes(LEE). Kuptrei is 24" ahead with his team mate Evans who was in the break.
27km: These 5 have come together and are making short work of most of the remnants of this mornings attack. They are now 52" ahead of the peloton, and 2'45 behind the leader Jackson whose just passed the summit
16km: Davies(LEE) has become the next man to jump away from Cardiffs peloton, 45" behind the favourites group. Out in front Jackson still holds 1'17 on the fav's with just a final V to complete.
8km: It's all uphill from here, and excellent descending from Kuptrei has cut the lead of Jackson to just 32". Davies follows at 1'36" with the Peloton at just over 2'00, so one of these 10 seems set for victory.
The steep gradients have closed it right up once more, the peloton has come back from no where and are just 1'00 behind leader Jackson!
5km: The 5 have caught our lone leader, whilst a second group of 6 forms behind, most notably in this group is Hughers(CAR) who is joint leader after yesterdays TTT.
4.4km: Omar Reynes puts the hurt on once more in the front group. Clark appears to struggle, leaving Anderson having to come around him to make up ground..
3.7km: Taylor picks up where Reynes leaves off, and Clark and Jackson seem to have cracked. 6 becomes 4, as Anderson fires the third volley!
2.5km... Again Anderson goes! The Irishman is clearly feeling great, and now Taylor is in difficulty! Behind the riders are strewn across the mountain, with Padlo(MAN) and Parker(NWA) trying some damage limitation.
2000m... Leeds rider Reynes has gone, and with 2km remaining we have just 2 men out in front. Anderson and Kuptrei are piling on the hurt here, in what has been a great mountain finish so far!
1km: Anderson leads under the Flamme Rouge, can Kuptrei come round him?
Victory for Anderson! Kuptrei can't match the sprint and has to let him go, Reynes comes in third at 25", 4th is Taylor at 41" whilst Padlo manages to climb back into contention with 5th place at +1'32

Great 3rd from Reynes, bit disappointed in Davis, as he should be the better climber. |

In fairness Welker, 4th isn't too bad! :L
Besides, you've already had great results on the cobbles, and IIRC your team doesn't have masses of climbing support?

Very true I guess, I have a solid all-around team and the majority of my points will come on the cobbles.
