Tour Review
5 Stage Wins (3 Phinney, 1 Meyer, 1 Roche)
6 Other Podium (Sabatini 1 2nd place, Meyer 3 2nd place, Roche 1 2nd place, Phinney 1 3rd place)
1 Other Top 5 (Roche)
Won General Classification (Meyer)
Won Sprint Classification (Phinney)
Won King Of the Mountains (Meyer)
Won Young Riders Classification (Meyer)
Won Team Classification by
Another clean sweep for us makes its a really successful week out in Argentina. With 5 stage wins in the bag too, there really was little to complain about all week. We were not even forced to do all the running either.
As in Australia, the field here was not the strongest, but it was not our strongest squad. Meyer is showing incredible form and has been rewarded by being confirmed on the Tour of Oman next month, a race where he will being given a free role to race alongside Peter Sagan.
Phinney will be sad not to finish in the top 10 on GC, however he should not be too disheartened. Whilst not counting toward his goal, his points Jersey here has shown that he is capable of making the efforts over multiple days. His speed in the sprint is very impressive and means he is making himself the most likely canidiate at this stage to be Sagan's leadout man in the classics.
What's next for Red Bull Cannondale
Tour Med 2.1
Voeckler ,
Talansky , Cataldo, Velits, Pellizotti, Nieve, Welderman, Caruso
We take a short 10 day break before we next race. A team of 8 riders all making thier season debuts will appear, including the irrepressible Tommy Voeckler who will be looking for early season form and probably a stage win. Or two. He might win the whole thing. You never know with Tommy.
He will be leading us with the American Talansky sharing leadership duties and probably being the slightly more likely bet in terms of general classification due his strength in the Time Trial.
Tour Goals
2 Stage Victories
3 riders in the Top 10 GC Classification

@Ian: Yeah, it was pretty good work. Spilak was a beast tbh considering how unfit he was at the start. Haedo also was very impressive. He actually finished 11th overall on GC and was really really great on the first mountain stage, getting in the break all day and helping the leaders at the end.
Its funny actually, because writing this story is making me play different. I'd normally play like Sky, using relays to drop people, stop attacks and then just dot away towards the end without ever hitting attack.
The fact i want an interesting exciting story makes me learn to use the attack button XD.
@Everyone: How is everyone finding the reports now. Enough pictures, too many pictures, enough text/still to much. I'm guessing they are fairly good as there hasn't been any moaning lately (Yeah, looking at you Manx ). But if theres something you don't like or would like, please feel free to say and I'll look to improve it.
EDIT: Anyone know if you can edit a rider onto the national team. Talansky is a fucking moron and turned down the national invite, even though i've basically built his season with a peak at the end for it. His wrecking Project RainbowWings before its even begun.

We shall certainly try. Tommy likes having a go, so it will certainly be an exciting 4 days.
And then after that.. its Oman. And that means 1 thing. Its Sagan time XD

Assuming Meyer doesn't overshadow him, I should hope so. Cavendish might show up and ruin my party though. No Viv in Oman, and Omega have a pretty awesome train. Still, my reckoning is with some sprint points + the mountain Sagan has a good GC shot.
Med is just like.. so open. I'm assuming Talansky will get the best TT time but theres alot of good TTers in the team. Thats gonna be one of the big days, and they are all climbers. Its the strongest squad for sure so far. Over half the team could probably take GC on a good week.
Probably gonna have fun with Voeckler though by having him just try to win everything. We don't have a sprinter which basically gives him the green light to just go for it.

I know that feeling about the attack button and changing how you play in a story

Its actually one of many reasons for doing a story. Dot works and so i won't not use it personally because its so effective, but i felt i was misssing on part of the gameplay by not learning how to use it effectively.
I will still probably use alot of dotting on gt mountain stages where i cant afford to gamble on an attack, but its definately more fun for races/riders not on a gc goal.

Tour Med - Stage One
Limoux to Gruissan - 146km
Today is about the break. We will make sure we get someone in it. Caruso or Pelliizotti are ideal candidates due to them not being great time trialist's and so wont be to concerned about expending energy today. From there, they should be looking to score good mountain points to get the Jersey.
Not much chance of a stage win really. We will try from the break and Tommy will probably have a go late if he feels good (and proabably even if he feels bad) but the likely hood of either succeeding is very unlikely. Its day one and the team is not in great shape, averaging only about 60% of thier maximum outputs later in the season.
After a few early attempts with
Caruso failed, a four man break finally formed 30k into the stage, not long before the first KOM sprint of the day. As well as our own
Pellizotti , working hard in his Italian National Champion jersey, the break contains
Preidler (ARG), Edet (COF) and
Antomarchi . The gap is at one minute.
After leading the break all the way over the first climb, taking the top points in the process,
Pellizotti finds himself actually having to get out of the saddle to take maximum points from the second. After placing first in both sprints, he will lead the classification at the end of the day.
Cue incredibly boring mid race. Gap goes out to 6 minutes, comes down. Pellizotti lets the other 3 guys take the sprint as they arent threats to GC or points jersey and he already stole the best mountain points. We do nothing really. Pellizotti does work fairly with break since his by far strongest in the break.
With the recently passed 20k marker still in shot and the gap to the pack down to 1'30",
Pellizotti grows unhappy with the groups lack of work and decides to see how dead their legs really are. Apparently good enough to follow.
At 10k to go, its
Edet who decides to press things with the peleton 10 seconds behind and closing fast.
Pellizotti is straight on the wheel, and
Edet soons stops pedalling...
but
Pellizotti doesn't and flies off into the distance as the rest of the pack is eaten by a BMC led peleton. He gets 10 seconds to hold for a kilometer or two but its a vain attempt as the pack soon devours him as well.
Which meant with 5k to go, there was only one thing left to do.
Voeckler , despite feeling very average today decides he might as well have a go. He never manages to get past the grasp of the sprinters trains.
So I think for only the second time this season, I bring you a podium without a single Red-Bull Cannondale rider. You cant win them all. Congratulation to
Boivin (AND) who won a close sprint finish. Clearly carrying good form through from San Luis.

Not the most interesting of races. I had a go, but without a sprinter in this squad it was always going to be a boring day, especially when there was no-one in break even close to Pellizotti.
I may get the stage two TT up tonight as well (although again not always the most exciting of reports). I guess it makes a nice chance to see me not totally WTFPWNED a race. XD

Tour Med - Stage Two
Cap D'Agde - Sète (Mont Saint-Clair) - 24.1km Individual Time Trial
Today is time trial day where we expect to take control of the race. Lets be honest, we should be dominating the field. With Velits, Cataldo, Talansky and Welderman in the squad we should be taking the win and most of the top 5 places too.
The course is a not straight forward. There is an incredibly hard climb at the end and it is likely to be where the major time is gained and lost. It will be important to not be burnt out on that final climb.
Voeckler will try his hardest to not lose too much time, whilst Nieve, Pellizotti and Caruso will just look to the end. The do not time trial well and would likely be out of GC contention even if they put in effort. We would rather them save thier efforts for the last two day.
Frank Vermeulen (RLM) was the early pace setter with 35'46"
This time was beaten 24 riders later, as
Krisjan Koren (TST_ went to the top of the leaderboard with his 35'37" taking the time down by nine seconds.
Markel Inizar managed to go 7 seconds better then that to steal top spot, but wasn't too remain there for long.
As
Johan Le Bon beat that time by another 5 seconds just 2 riders later, setting the new mark at 35'25"
Our riders were by now on the rollers, and preparing for their slot. There was one strong TTer left to ride before Kelderman hit the track.
Sky's man did not dissapoint,
Kanstansin Siutsou reduding the target time to 35;14". Would this be a big enough gap to stop the wrecking machine that is Team Red Cannon.
Kelderman had the misfortune of heading out first this meant he was unable to benifit from the reports on the track conditions, just missing out on setting the top time. However,
Peter Velits had no problem. He absolutely shatters the previous leading time despite being 20" down through the first checkpoint with a remarkable effort on the final climb. His time of 34'33 is after by 41 seconds.
Italian National Time Trial Champion
Dario Cataldo puts in a good effort, but is unable to match the effort by our other national champion
Velits , managing to take second place with a time of 35'06"
With no-one else coming close, its up to
Andrew Talansky to make a drive for the top time. He fades a little too early on the climb though, and can only manage to steal second from Cataldo, with a time just 1 second quicker then the Italian.
So then its time for
Tommy Voeckler to go into damage limitation. Lets be honest, he is not a great TTer. He can climb though. The plan is simple. Go easy early on, and when you start climbing give it full gas and don't quit pushing until the line. We hope to finish within a minute of the main GC contenders from other teams. What Tommy does in nothing short of a miracle.
At the first check point, he is nearly a minute and half down on the fastest time through the check, a minute down on the time by
Velits . With the climb almost on him, he ups the pace. He hits the mountain at over 50 kilometer per hour. His cadance is relentless and doesnt let up. He almost collapses over the line but as we tell him his time, all the colour runs back. 34'53" is his time. Its not a stage win, but he lies in second place and has beaten his far more accomplished team-mates.
Not even
Rory Sutherland (TST) can spoil his party. Whist managing to split the complete Red Bull - Cannondale domination of the top 5 and nab the last podium place, he cannot dislodge Tommy or Peter Velits.

That was last night and I still cant believe it now. Velits, that was expected (although it was still a good ride from him as shown compared the other time trial guys who got similar times to each other). Same goes for dominating the top, there is a lack of good time trial guys at this event (I keep saying that. Where are all the good riders!). But that result from Tommy. That is something else.
His pretty much a nailed on race favourite now. I almost feel bad for Velits as I'd basically decided to make him GC lead before Tommy's time come up.
Up to 3/4 jerseys now.

Tour Med - Stage Three
Marseille L'Estaque to Saint Rémy de Provence - 159.3kml
Officially a flat day, the run in is quite challanging. Its up and down, up and down so we shall try are hardest to tear the race up by putting in attacks at the end.
Early doors, we will get Pellizotti in the break so he can secure the KOM with a day to spare.
The days break formed fairly early, although it was chased hard for a while.
Preidler (ARG), Mesrta (EUS, Antomarchi (LPM) and
Euser (UHC) join Pellizotti[/b] in ensuring they stay away.
As Pellizotti takes the first KOM points of the day, they have established a gap of 3 minurtes and 13 seconds.
The pack seem unkeen on letting the break get too big of a gap, and it never stretched much beyond 3 minutes.
With two and a half minutes to the break and 35km to go,
Mikel Nieve tests out the front of the pack. No-one chases, and his soon over a minute down the road and catching the breakaway.
With e pack still staying calm, we decide more shaking is needed.
Velits attacks with 20k to go an the break just a minute down the road. Surely there would be a reaction here?
There was not. The pack just continued it pace, no-one seemingly wanting to follow our attacks. So
Tommy decides to see who wants to follow him. Again, the answer is no-one.
Soon
Velits and
Voeckler are out on thier own, dropping the break at 12k and establishing a minute back to the pack. This had been reduced to just 20 seconds by the top of the days last climb.
But on the decent,
Tommy starts pulling the gap back out, Velits hanging on for dear life.
Its not enough though, as
Daniele Ratto storms through at the end to take the sprint. Can Tommy manage to keep 2nd place?
That's a fine consolation I suppose. It was a sprinters stage after all.
