Hmm... yes the AI didn't do very well

I do race on Extreme so it isn't too easy, plus i'd expect him to do well in a 2.2 race. But he still shouldn't be winning a 'flat' stage Pfft

Tour Oman Stage 6

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/oman66_zps549139e5.png

The final stage of the race is surely for the sprinters, who now have the chance for a stage win after the GC battle. The main riders to look out for today, include Guardini (Astana), Davis (GreenEdge) and Petacchi (Lampre). We are aiming to help Markus to a good finish.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0649_zps38a848ed.jpg

110kms to go

The day’s attackers form the break. No GC-threats at all in the group, out of the eight men the closest to Lastras is Vogondy (Accent). Other riders of interest could be Meintjes (MTN) and Taciak (CCC) who have both been in breaks on previous days. Gap is at 2’45”

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0651_zpsa8e8fb74.jpg

20kms to go

Astana, GreenEdge, Lampre and Movistar are all on the front of the peloton. The break, driven by Gusev (Katusha) still has a 1’25” gap but they will surely be caught. The stage looks all set for a bunch sprint.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0652_zps8aabad07.jpg

5kms to go

The break is back but on one of the small hills a group of three attacked out of the peloton. Davis (GreenEdge), Nordhaug (Blanco) and Commeyne (Accent) are the names of the riders. Strange to see a sprinter attacking on a hill on a flat stage, so this could be a gamble for Davis in particular. The trio have 40” on the bunch.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0654_zps37b75905.jpg

2500m to go

Lampre pull them back thanks to Ferrari, who is now leading out Petacchi. Davis has stolen the Italian’s wheel. Markus is further back, behind Guardini and his Astana teammates.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0660_zps66e0e08f.jpg

1km to go

Petacchi has been launched, but he is burning out. Davis is looking good behind him. On the left of the road, Iglinsky is flying through for Astana with Markus on his wheel.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0663_zps53a4d21a.jpg

Finish

Even after attacking, Davis finds the strength to power through to win! Petacchi faded badly and the Australian took full advantage. Behind Commeyne steals 2nd for Accent, and Sanchez (Blanco) rounds out the podium. Markus finishes a decent 6th, which rounds out an ok tour for him.

The GC stays the same so Lastras wins the Tour of Oman for Movistar. Our best finisher is Van Niekerk in 6th overall.

Tour of South Africa Stage 2

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/ToSA2_zpsbde1edf6.png

Today is the first of two hilly stages, so the puncheurs are deservedly the favourites. Race leader Jonathan Tiernan-Locke is the main favourite, thanks to the weak Continental field. Others to look out for are Gerald Ciolek (MTN) and Ivan Rovny (Flamina). Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg could also surprise for us.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0666_zps82240727.jpg

100kms to go

There are four attackers which form the break. Teklehaimanot (Atlas), Manousek (Bauknecht), Te Stroet (Jo Piels) and Simpson (Differdange) are the men up the road. The gap is at 3’15” back to the bunch, but has not stopped growing.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0669_zpsde1c3214.jpg

50kms to go

We are on the front of the peloton, controlling the break. The gap is coming down and currently stands at 3’45”, thanks to the work of Grmay and Chaoufi. The snow (!) has started to fall quite heavily, which should favor the tougher riders.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0670_zps17d9921b.jpg

25kms to go

Over the last few kilometers we really ramped up the pace through Chaoufi. With the break caught and half the peloton dropped Tiernan-Locke puts in a big attack, on a short sharp hill. He is looking to put big time into the reduced and tired peloton.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0677_zpsaa33aea1.jpg

10kms to go

The Birt still has a gap of a minute back to the peloton, which is led by MTN. Many more riders have been dropped and now only 41 remain. R.Janse Van Rensburg is sitting it the wheels in case Tiernan-Locke gets caught.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0679_zps451d5d3b.jpg

3kms to go

As we hit the final rise before the finish Tiernan-Locke is in the peloton’s sights. He still has a 35” gap, but it will be close to see if he can hang on. The strongest riders behind seem to be Ciolek and R.Janse Van Rensburg, who are both just behind the MTN chase.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0681_zps6f1c7410.jpg

1500m to go

Tiernan-Locke has grown his gap over the hill to 50”! It looks like he will win the second stage of the tour, like the first. Behind R.Janse Van Rensburg has jumped out of the pack, and is looking like he could grab 2nd.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0685_zps32799d4b.jpg

Finish

The Brit crosses the line too tired to raise his arms. He wins his second consecutive stage, after an amazing 25km attack. He extends his GC-lead, a job well done for us.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0687_zps9b68a3d8.jpg

Finish

The main group comes in 23” behind. Groenwengen (De Rijke) grabs 2nd on the day, while R.Janse Van Rensburg finishes 3rd which rounds out the podium. He completes a great day for us, with a 1-3. Ciolek faded badly and ended in 12th.

Tiernan-Locke now leads the GC by 51” back to Groenwengen. R.Janse Van Rensburg is in third overall. We also lead the points and teams classifications.

Tour of South Africa Stage 3

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/ToSA3_zpsfa675c25.png

After the rest day, the sprinters have a chance today. MTN have both overwhelming favourites for the stage with Germans Ciolek and Stauff. Huff will also hope to do well for Jelly Belly, while we have R.Janse Van Rensburg. Our other goal is to keep Tiernan-Locke safe in the leader’s jersey.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0688_zpsb8978d97.jpg

Finish

Brrambilla takes a surprise win for Atlas ahead of Baggio (Flamina) in 2nd. Stauff finishes 3rd for MTN, while our lead sprinter R.Janse Van Rensburg finishes 4th. Ciolek fails once again, finishing outside the top 10.

Tiernan-Locke finishes safely in the peloton and retains his GC and Points lead. Brambilla moves into 2nd overall, while R.Janse Van Rensburg drops to 5th.

Tour of South Africa Stage 4

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/ToSA4_zpsa93fe7d0.png

A bit hillier than yesterday but a day for the sprinters nonetheless. Favorites wise, Brambilla is worth a mention after his win yesterday. Stauff is also looking like MTN’s lead sprinter, so he will hope to ride well. R.Janse Van Rensburg will hope to improve on yesterday’s 4th.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0694_zpsc090efef.jpg

120kms to go

Van Zandbeek (De Rijke) attacks and no-one follows him. He forms the break of the day. The gap back to the peloton is surprisingly big today, reaching 5’45” very fast. The Dutch rider is only 1’03” behind Tiernan-Locke on the GC.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0690_zpsad0aa72f.jpg

19kms to go

The gap is still at 3’30” up to Van Zandbeek, and no-one is chasing. We are on the final climb of the day so why not let the Race-Leader benefit from the peloton’s strange tactics? Tiernan-Locke pulls out 55” very quickly, and is 2’40” behind the Dutchman in front.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0695_zpsa8b57e95.jpg

9kms to go

Tiernan-Locke is clearly on great form, and is catching Van Zandbeek fast. He has 1’00” on the peloton, and is only 1’10” behind Zandbeek meaning he may keep his GC-lead, and a third stage win could be in reach!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0697_zpsce2f95fd.jpg

2kms to go

But the Brit fades and the gap is stuck at 55”! It looks like Van Zandbeek will take the stage, but will he take the GC-lead? Behind Tiernan-Locke is spent and is nearly caught by the main group, which is whittled down to 41-riders. R.Janse Van Rensburg is well paced for the sprint.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0699_zpsce0fb73f.jpg

Finish

Breakaway man Van Zandbeek wins the stage after a massive solo effort, a fully deserved win. Behind Tiernan-Locke has been overtaken and the sprint is on for second. The clock has started on the GC.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/story/PCM0702_zpsf48a4dea.jpg

Finish

R.Janse Van Rensburg leads home the peloton in 2nd, while Baggio (Flamina) completes the podium. Tiernan-Locke finishes a respectable 6th, but the time gap is not yet in…

…Van Zandbeek got 57” on the Tiernan-Locke group, meaning he moves into the GC-lead by 20” over the Brit. Not a complete disaster however, R.Janse Van Rensburg moves into 3rd overall. Also, while chasing today Chaoufi picked enough KoM points to move into the lead in that competition.

Today is another chance for the sprinters, which should be a straight forward transition stage towards the hills tomorrow. The favourites should be the riders who have done well in the sprints so far. MTN seem unsure of their leader, but Stauff and Ciolek both look strong for them. Brambilla has also performed well so far. We are hoping for another good performance from R.Janse Van Rensburg.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0704_zps439f222c.jpg

Finish

The race ended in a mass-sprint, which was won dominantly by Stauff for MTN, who seem to have decided Ciolek should save his energy for the GC battle tomorrow. Hanson (Optum) took a surprise 2nd, while R.Janse Van Rensburg took 3rd. A good ride from him.

The GC stayed the same, apart from Reinardt gaining a few bonus seconds. We turn our attention to the hills tomorrow where we are hoping to drop Van Zandbeek.

Tour of South Africa Stage 6

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/ToSA6_zps32b287f7.png

This stage is the deciding stage of the race. The best hill riders in the race will hope to move into the high GC-places, after the sprinters had their chance over the past few days. Our only goal is to try and move Tiernan-Locke into the GC-lead, as he is by far the best puncheur here.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0705_zpsc19c64f2.jpg

120kms to go

The break of the day is formed relatively early containing Te Stroet (Jo Piels), Miesset (Quantec) and Chenaux (Atlas). The trio has no threat to the GC whatsoever, so they pull out a 4’50” gap very quickly.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0714_zpsdb8eadb8.jpg

12kms to go

The break is eventually caught by De Rijke and us, so on the penultimate climb Tiernan-Locke sets a fast pace on the front of the bunch. Lots of riders are being dropped, but Van Zandbeek is still holding on. Still, there is plenty of time for him to be dropped.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0716_zpsa49b9544.jpg

4kms to go

On the final hill Tiernan-Locke and R.Janse Van Rensburg try a double attack. They have a 20” gap and are pulling away from the peloton! Behind De Rijke are frantically chasing to try and save their man Van Zandbeek’s Yellow Jersey.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0717_zpsf01be485.jpg

1km to go

The South Afican has now been dropped but Tiernan-Locke is still riding well, and has a 28” gap back to the chasing bunch. It will be exciting to see whether the Brit can take the stage win and the leader’s jersey.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0718_zpsb6536ab2.jpg

Finish

Tiernan-Locke wins his third stage of the race, and will claim back the Overall lead. A great ride frim him once again. Behind the sprint is in full flow, with Ciolek leading.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/PCM0721_zps22f890a9.jpg

Finish

26” behind, Ciolek wins the peloton sprint for MTN, and finishes the day in 2nd. Brambilla also puts in a good performance in 3rd, which rounds out the podium. Other positions of note are R.Janse Van Rensburg’s 5th place and Van Zandbeek’s 6th place.

Tiernan-Locke moves into 1st overall by 26” over Van Zandbeek. R.Janse Van Rensburg stays in third, while nothing else really changes. Also it is worth mentioning Chaoufi lost his KoM lead to Te Stroet in the break.

Stage 6 was a really good one for the team, nice to see JTL now wears the leader's jersey! Smile

Everyone: Thanks guys, nice to know you are all following Smile

Miguel: It does look that way doesn't it Pfft. It must just be the light.

BikeRoel: It is a 2.2 race so I would expect to be winning with a rider like Tiernan-Locke. Thanks anyway Smile

Race profile:

Favourites:

***

Renshaw (Blanco), Farrar (Garmin), Ventoso (Movistar)

**

Napolitano (Accent), Lithgart (Vacansoleil), Schulze (Euskatel)

*

Cantwell (Saxo), Dumoulin (Cofidis), Meersman (OPQS)

Lineup:

Barry Markus
Nolan Hoffman
Dennis Van Niekerk
Fabio Duarte
Martijn Keizer
Adrien Niyonshuti

Manager's comments:

This is our final race in February, the Clasica Almeria. We bring Markus as our leader, as this is classified 'flat'. He may have trouble on the hills though, so we have also brought along Van Niekerk who can climb and sprint decently. With either of these riders, we are hoping for a top 10.

Hoffman, Keizer and Niyonshuti all have come along to help, while Duarte is here to build fitness. His first race days of the season are here, to try and help him peak fo his big goal, the Giro d'Italia.

The report should be up tomorrow, as well as the final ToSA stage Smile
