Was hoping for a top 3 from Suaza, but nice to see Oscar Solis in the top 10!

Brilliant stage that was.
I hope that Nicácio can hold his top10 GC placement for us in the final stage, and that somehow Mendes makes a move for the stage, given he would probably be the favourite for it had he not wasted his energy in this silly attack.
I find the sprinters situation quite funny too

That is another good ride from Ardila, but only up to 6th in the overall. I was really hoping for a top 5, but looking at the competition this has turned out to be a pretty good result. I doubt there will be any time gaps tomorrow, but anuthing can happen.

What a perfect stage for HTC! Couple of sprinters gone, quite interesting.

Perfect, exactly as I hoped for So far this stage race went for us almost to perfection. Just to survive the hilly stage!

Have to agree with tyriion here. This is stacking up very well for Marquez and HTC in terms of a high scoring GC win. I'm interested that so many breaks are getting wins, I wonder whether we will see a repeat of that in the Protour?

Shame about my riders dropping a few GC places, but I don't really care after Puig.
Congrats to Alakagom as well, Marquez looks to have secured the win and some important points for HTC if they are going to avoid the drop |

Great report Count.
Nice to see Suaza and Solis doing well. After years of being PT domestique climbers not really getting results, now they are able to get some

Heres another then - in regards to breakaway mountain stage winner Ivan Seledkov. He was King of the CT Breakaways in the 2009 season. He got in a breakaway to win a stage of the Giro del Capo, and held on to win the race overall. And then also won stages in Vuelta al Pais Vasco and Tour de Slovenie from a breakaway later in the season.
So it was cool to also see him win from the break again.

Really ?
I mean Izzagirre before purely on stats wasn't a Top 10 / 15 climber here, Top 5 is absolutely brilliant for him and you. You can't complain about that seriously.

You were right boys, these toughest stages are surely more interesting and bring us bigger differences between riders, another great action packed report btw.
Congrats to HTC, the race is going perfect for them, lets see if the lumpy stage will not be dangerous for pure mountain goat Marquez. This also put early pressure on Metinvest and other relegation candidates, as HTC will score big time probably.

I always thought the same. He is totally overperforming and let me think about Rob Ruijgh if he might have done good here as well... |

Thanks for all the kind words about the reports guys, I was really pleased with a lot of them and it is great to get back into the swing of things.
Just some little notes:
A good old Gazprom Fuck Up... I knew I could count on Izzagirre to throw it all away...
As others have said, Izagirre was really overperforming a top 5 is a huge result for him.
Was hoping for a top 3 from Suaza, but nice to see Oscar Solis in the top 10!
Almost jinxed it at the end there But that does show the importance of the hill stat for this race - not only was it key in the final stage but some of the lesser climber (agudelo for instance) really suffered on the smaller mountain stages because they didn't have a good hill stat.

Holy **** had a mini heart when Marquez fell.
But the team did well at the end. Phewww, this was a race we needed all the points we could, and it ended as such
Great reprots Count, great read!

Not a bad race for me, I was hoping for a top 5 as it is my only home race for the season, but I missed out by 30 seconds. Briceno also did well to get 12th, and hopefully this race can act as a springboard for the rest of the season.

Congrats to HTC for this nice win. A bit unlucky that other teams like Bintang crashed out early as it might have been a more interesting fight.
And nice reports Count. Well written. |

Great way to finish this race! I was afraid that after yesterday's break he wouldn't be in the best shape for this stage, but he won it in an awesome way.
It makes me glad I regretted to bring a full sprint squad here. Mendes and Nicácio really saved this trip to Venezuela.

They were all well deserved mate

I agree with the others, I'd be over-the-roof with a result of that calibre from Izagirre. I mean there are like 15 better climbers than him in this race!
