And what's more interesting: Alberto Contador has been called in by CONI for a hearing. They will question his involvement in the Operation Puerto. Valverde and other Spanish riders have also been called in.
If CONI makes a case out of it, it means the riders won't be allowed to ride in Italy.
hopefully they'll be considered guilty. unless they're innocent....which is about as likely as Alicia Silverstone appearing naked on my lap right now................................
nope, nothing. burn them at the stake.

two things I find funny:
- every one of them uses the exact same words: "unfair", and "100% innocent"
- as my uncle (who introduced me to cycling when I was a kid, bless him) pointed out, Valverde's lawyer keeps using the same defensive tactic by never once having said "Alejandro is innocent", but always "Alejandro guarantees he's innocent".

I wish WADA, UCI, IOC, etc. had balls and would threaten, and then do it if necessary, to throw the Spanish out of all the relevant sports if they don't wish to collaborate in OP and keep protecting their sportsmen and teams. But well, that day won't be happening soon... |

IOC? Like they will ever do anything useful except for bribing each other. |

now now....they punish dopers heavily. and if Marion Jones does it again, they'll tap her other wrist. that'll show her!

we had a discussion about that here a few months ago. Vaughters didn't like it one bit when he was informed that Millar was now a co-owner and had hired himself for the team. apparently Vaughters didn't want him
then, of course, the PR people got to him and now he's "very happy to have David aboard"

.. mainly because Millar is a former doper, and that doesn't really fit into Slipstream's anti doping philosophy
Anyway, it's now being rumoured that some national cycling federations are working on establishing a European Cycling Federation which will "compete" with UCI. It's said that the new federation is being supported by the three grand tours and the national federations in France, Italy, Spain and Austria.
Other news
- Upsolut Sports AG, the owner of Deutschland Tour and Vattenfall, has been sold to Lagardère.
- The Spanish minister of sport has said that they are not hiding anything, and that they are of course willing to cooperate He also said that only cyclists are involved in the Operation Puerto (yeah right).

Michael Chang (former ATP Tour world number two) once said that when the doping controls came to his house, all he had to do was say "I'm Michael's brother. he's not here." and they'd go away. every single time.

According to Cyclingnews.com the 2008 giro will contain up the plan de coronesfor those of you who don't remember, it's the insane climb on dirt roads with the last 4-5 km. rising at a minimun of 16% and a max of 24%. It was to be ridden in 2006 when Basso won, but the dirt part was cancelled due to rain) |

Some time ago, issoisso and I discussed whether or not Rasmus Damsgaard were going to lead Astana's new anti doping programme or not. It's now clear that Damsgaard will lead the project completely like the way he's leading CSC's anti doping programme (= I was wrong).
If I trusted Damsgaard before, it's gone now. |

I like hard climbs, but it's tough for the riders.

no problem at all. just noting there's a thread on that. just thought these races are usually big enough that we can discuss them separately (especially in early December when the full routes will be revealed)
