I said there are few places to create gaps, not that there are none.

Dissapointning route, was really hoping for a massacre of a tour!
But seems like it's impossible to create such things in France..

A little bit dull is the way I would describe this route. No Cobbles, no Gravel, short TT's, soft Mountain stages. But what can you do? |

Well if you look at tthe giro and the vuelta, its like.. Giro is the TTers GT, TdF is the Spriinters GT and Vuelta the climbers GT. Which kinda make sense to have each geared towards a type of specialist. Altho TdF for sprinters is kinda silly due to lack of stage bonuses. |

I hope for the sake of humanity that this is sarcasm.
EDIT: fernando, the Tour is definitely the most sprinter-friendly GT. Easily.

I mean for next year. I know normally giro is traditionally the sprinters tour but its TT heavy for 2013. |

Yeah, but it's still not a Sprinter's GT, I think. It's the friendliest, but it's just not a GT for sprinters (well it's the best for them but still) imo. |

Prudhomme unoficially states that Tour will take place with 8-rider teams. Not usual 9.

That's supposed to be climbers, right?

Well the size of peleton is partly to blame for all the crashes in first week. So that's why 8 riders will reduce this hopefully.
It's a good move. Although some teams might protest.

I don't question that, I just wondered why they come up with this out of nowhere.

Becasue of the massive crashes that ruined Tour a lot in past 2 years especially ?
It's still unofficial, but Prudhomme wants this to happen.
"Le Tour favorable a huit coureurs par equipe"
"Un coureur de moins dans chaque équipe, pour une question de sécurité, ensuite pour que la course soit un peu moins cadenassée"

Well of late maybe. It did have a long rep for being the sprinters tour from back wwhen there was a good italian sprinter and they basically had a entirely flat giro so he could win. It was a slightly unfair rep, but the. Whatever.
My main point was refering specifically to the circuits next years, which suit TTers, Sprinters and Climbers respectively. |

I don't see it the way many of you do. I think its a nice typical route for the tdf. Yeah, maybe the hype was a bit too high and many of us were expecting more. But in the end its not the route, but rather the riders which make a tdf interesting.
From what I've seen and know about the route, I think the odds are way better for a thrilling tour than this years edition. shorter tt's, and a very interesting last climbing week. I even don't get the point that there are not steep enough climbs. We saw in this years vuelta that the steepest climbs don't guarantee huge gaps. It was a mediocre climbing stage where Contador won the vuelta.
So, I like the new course. And if Contador and Schleck come with a good form to the tour it should be very interesting...

In addition to a smaller field with less crashes, it'll also be harder to control the race, like Sky did this year. Just look at the Olympics, and how awesome that race was.
I'd like to see even smaller squads, like 5-6 riders. In all races.

Well Sky raced almost 90% of Tour with 8 riders But yeah, agreed in general about the race being harder on control and less predictable.
