Domination
Like the way you summarized it, and Haussler might be a little upset with 2nd again

@ Freitas: Indeed Maybe the best result I've ever achieved in PCM.
@valv: Thanks I went for a kind of journalist approach, I'm glad you like it. |

Rabobank continues strong season - Favorites fail closely
The first big cobbled classic of the season, the E3 Prijs - Vlaanderen, didn't see the expected favorites on top of the podium. The big three, Tom Boonen, Heinrich Haussler and Fabian Cancellara, all had to cave in as Matti Breschel pulled ahead in the final sprint.
Early breaks were reeled in quickly, but halfway through the race, it got interesting: A strong group around Manuel Quinziato (BMC) and Fabio Felline (Vacansoleil) got away. The chase ripped the field apart, until at one point only Boonen, Cancellara and Haussler were up front. But eventually, most of the other top riders joined and it came down to a sprint of 17 riders. The end is well known.
Matti Breschel surprises the top riders and scores Rabobank's second major win of the season.

Podium for Haussler isn't that bad. Better luck in the next cobbled classics

Haussler strikes back – Felline shows potential
Having been beaten by Breschel and Boonen at the E3 Prijs, the most successful rider of this spring, Heinrich Haussler, returns to take the win at Gent-Wevelgem. In the absence of Fabian Cancellara, the race followed a similar course as two days ago: An early break was caught midway through the race without doing any damage, but later on, more serious attacks were made. Most prominent: Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky), who, at one point, even looked like he had a shot of staying clear. An attack by Tom Boonen 7kms in front of the finish ended his hopes, though.
At that point, Heinrich Haussler was still supported by Peter Sagan, who made a stunning effort in bringing Boonen back. It was that move that ensured the final to be decided in a sprint from a group of 23 riders. Haussler followed Boonen's wheel and in contrary to the E3 Prijs, he was able to overtake him. Fabio Felline meanwhile convinced with a strong third place. After his win at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, this result confirms his status as one of the most promising riders on cobblestones.
Haussler takes the first of the big three cobbled classics.

Catching up with the last few races and the results have been great! I also liked the photo gallery on MSR cause sometimes my eyes just drift to find out the winner in the race reports without paying attention to the day's action But for small races it isn't neccessary of course. |

Kreuziger outsmarts the peloton – Rabobank again strong
With the Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya, the third big stage race of the month was on the agenda. UniCredit entered with a strong double leadership consisting of Damiano Cunego and Roman Kreuziger, and they didn't disappoint.
The race was mainly decided on two stages: After Allan Davis won the first stage in a bunch sprint, Roman Kreuziger decided to give it a try and attacked on the last ascent of day two. He got a nice advance and saved 44 seconds on the descent into the finish.
The following day saw the queen stage with a hard climb up to Port-Ainé. Overall leader Roman Kreuziger had a tough day but mainly due to Damiano Cunego's amazing work, the main riders stayed together for most of the climb. It was only on the final kilometer that Benat Intxausti broke free and finished 18 seconds before the chasers. Afterwards, Kreuziger's overall lead should never be endangered and he celebrates a big win after coming in third at Paris-Nice.
Roman Kreuziger is more than happy after his first big win of the season.
Breakaways and former dopers succeed
Three of the last four stages were then won from breakaways, since UniCredit evidently didn't care much for stage wins. Ukrainian riders were especially successful: Yaroslav Popovych scored Orica's second stage win, Vitaliy Buts (Lampre) did not only win a stage but also took the mountain jersey home.
On the last stage, Stefan Schumacher managed to add another top result to his palmarés. After he won a Vuelta stage in his first year at T-Mobile, he could now score another World Tour win. And he wasn't the only former doper to succeed: Thomas Dekker won the fifth stage and the time bonifications vaulted him into third overall. Rabobank therefore continues to be the second best team so far, as Carlos Barredo finishes fifth as well, repeating his result of Paris-Nice.
Schumacher continues to shine in his second year after his suspension.

28 March
Hey guys,
it's me again with another blog entry.
Another extraordinarily successful month is fading out and I have to say that I have never ever seen such results before. What Heinrich, Peter, Vincenzo and Roman have achieved in the past few weeks is more than amazing. And it won't be the end: Haussler aims at Paris-Roubaix and the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Kreuziger will be a favorite in the Basque Country and Peter Sagan of course tackles the Ardennes classics.
But they won't be the only one racing: I will finally start my racing in only two weeks! On the 12th of April, the Vuelta a Castilla y Léon, and with it my Giro preperation, starts! I'm so excited!
I think I have to add, though, that despite everything, not everyone in the team is as excited as I am at the moment. You may have read Damiano's interview in La Gazzetta where he complained about his domestique role in Catalunya despite being promised to be the leader. Other riders like Marco Marcato feel similar, and even Heinrich Haussler was a bit frustrated about his second place at Milano-San Remo, his second in three years. It's a problem the management will have to tackle, because all those successes are worth a lot less without a nice atmosphere.
The next transfer window might bring some changes regarding that topic. And while we're at it, I'd like to remind you that my future is still uncertain. I approached our DS recently whether he planned to prolong my contract and he reacted surprisingly defensive, saying that he would like to wait for that until after the Giro. While I can understand it partly - I haven't raced at all this year -, I'm still a bit disappointed, as I've always felt a strong confidence from the management and I feel better than ever. But we'll see, I think everything can happen and after my recent development I'm in a good position for upcoming negotiations.
Anyways, that shall be it for the moment, I'll write again from Spain!
Yours,
|

A transfer on the cards for Dominik? Sounds interesting. |

@pcm2009fan: Thanks a lot I try my best to make these blog entries as interesting as possible, after all this is Dominik's story And yes, there are a few teams that hinted their interest in Dom, so a team change is definetely possible.
@Freitas: It really was
Guys, I've been thinking, and I have a question for you regarding the future composition of this story. I like my new way of reporting, but I tend to shorten the Non-Dominik part even more. That would mean: Detailed (like the latest ones) reports only for monuments and GTs, other world tour races in the monthly review, continental races (without Dom) not at all. So, for instance, you'd get a report of De Ronde, Paris-Roubaix and LBL next month, but for the Pais Vasco and the other two ardennes classics, you'd have to wait for the monthly review.
I feel like at the moment, this is neither fish nor fowl: Neither a real team story, nor a complete focus on one rider. The question would be: Do you agree with these thoughts and appreciate a higher concentration on Dominik, or do you like this "hybrid" kind of thing with relatively detailed reports for the other team races as well?
