dear sir kenl, I just do a little tour here to give you some tips. know that the DDS format A8R8G8B8 ARGB pixel 32-bit with alpha, which uses 8 bits per channel is not necessary for this type of work. Indeed, the best compromise in quality and performance therm is the compression format DXT3. A8R8G8B8 format produces images four times larger in size and material resources for a quality level zero with respect to the DDS or DXT3 DXT5 in vision in the game. His only interest, it allows the person like you to do retouching on the DDS textures to make small Quantity of production to limit artifacts.
I personally do not use the software pro paint because it is very limite .If you need more information, please feel free to call me back, I would be happy to assist you.
ps: I hope that in future you will be able to suggest a totally personal work. I'm looking forward

I allowed myself to take a sample of your work.
Here are two textures. the first is the original top and the bottom was recorded in DDS DXT3 compress .
the only real difference between the two images is their rate of bytes. Indeed, the original image is not compressed 1.mo. while the second is only 256 kb. Please understand, that compress the DDS format for this reason and many others, is favored for video games.

as I have up on my example the use of the format A8R8G8B8 a diffuse texture map and _s, that has very little interest compared to other compression DXT3 AND DXT5 on its quality. What KenL does is the same as you have shown (he has also done lots of helmets with more complicated design than your GB-helmet), but for some reason you start making jokes about his work.
And KenL just used the compression as example to show how stupid you argue, but doubt you´ll ever get that.

I took the moose cyranide 512x512 texture of the same model as yours.
cyranide fact that of the 170 kio your 1 MB, it takes 5 to 6 times more space than the original. to only a few alterations (but beautiful). it is so important that in comparison, if you made the same texture in high resolution 1024 x1024 compréser you would have a better quality for a minimum of space in comparison with non-compress your texture.
Compression textures in a game has two objectives. The first is to reduce the place that can occupy the textures. The second is to increase the processing speed of textures by the graphics card. Reduce the space occupied by the textures:
The fact that a graphics card has its own memory allows it to process much faster textures that will be stored. First, because these memories are often much faster than main memory of the computer, and second, the GPU can be accessed directly without the presence of intermédiaires.Si memory ensures therefore a good level of performance, it also implies a limit on the amount of textures that the graphics card can handle independently. If this limit is exceeded, then the graphics processor must use the RAM of the computer center with a consequent fall in performances.L objective of the texture compression is precisely to ensure that even with an amount of textures exceeds the storage capacity of the graphics card, they can be stored once compressed.
The main bottleneck in the performance of a graphics card is in the amount of information exchanged continuously in the processor and memory on the graphics card. By compressing the textures, decreases the amount of such exchanges while obtaining the same result. In other words, in a given time, a graphics card will handle more power if they are compressed textures if they are not. The direct consequence is an increase in display speed games. On average, this gain is about 15% to 25%.
