Really liking the ceremony. Reliving all the memories of past Olympics gave me goosebumps, although strangely enough, most of those Canadian memories came from the Winter Olympics!
Sir Chris Hoy.
Also loved the part where they played all the famous British Music.

Fun Fact: The amount of paper stripes flying through the air right now equals the world's population.

Funny to see how the Queen barely bothered to look up
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

The modern-smartphone-party-thingy lasted waaaay to long. The Chariots of Fire parody was funny though

As a Beatles-lover, I think that cover was horrible, for too many reasons...

I just wanted to say, even though they're quite successful, they don't have a "signature song" or such.
And I think Britain has some better active bands, that would fit better to a Olympics opening ceremony than the Arctic Monkeys and an (to me) unknown rapper.
It isn't the ESC after all

I also expected a more famous/succesful artist to play, like Coldplay or Adele.

There you have one
Anyone else who thinks that was the most awesome way to light the Olympic Flame ever?

Loved the opening ceremony, especially that the youth did light the flame, instead of ancient glory. Great start of london 2012!

I'm slowly remembering why I don't really care for the Olympics. The opening ceremony is one of the reasons. |

Kids lighting the flame...
Montreal gets credit for that.

Ehm, just a question: isn't the Olympic flame exactly where all the shot disciplines will be held?

I felt the opening ceremony was good but not great (although some, perhaps many, parts of it were great). I'm going to ignore my normal British modesty by saying the cauldron is absolutely phenomenal.
I'm more interested to know what our non-Brit members thought of the ceremony, because there was a lot (and I mean a lot) that would have gone way over the heads unless you're very, very familiar with British culture

I watched it completely and really enjoyed it although the modern part with the mobile phones were indeed a bit too long.
Really like the British humor. As child I used to watch Mr Bean day for day. So this was a brilliant part. |

I really enjoyed this opening ceremony overall! The party part was a bit too long to me, but the "industrial era" thing where they forged the rings was amazing!
A bit disappointed with the Arctic Monkeys but it was special to see everyone sing Hey Jude at the end
Finally, that was the best way to light up the torch ever. Even if it wasn't hard to beat Wayne Gretzky in a pick-up
EDIT: Mr.Bean, what a great idea! (the musicians where fantastic also ^^)

What happened with Mr. Bean? Did he light the flame?
