I enjoyed that report and the videos - initially thought Cunego was a bit far back when the climb started but moved up well and managed to get away. Excellent to see him overpower Pluchkin.
Great to get the stage win and a huge bonus to capture the leader's jersey. Hopefully it will give him that little extra to gain what he needs over Pluchkin, Madrazo, Spilak and Dekker for the next time we go against the clock..... |

Well, Keizer's luck had to eventually ran out. Atleast not as bad as Taaramae's luck.

Incredible ride from Pluchkin!! Just weird that him and Cunego rode their own pace instead of relaying. One lousy second faster and I would have had my first ever TdF yellow jersey!!
This has been a great first week though. The team is looking great in the mountains aswell and taking a minute on Madrazo is priceless. This is going to be an incredibly exciting race.
And the report had me like I was watching Sastre climbing Alpe d'Huez in 2008 or whenever that was. Amazing job SN!

Cunego strikes... Madrazo was disappointing then again he was a little off at the beginning of the Vuelta and then was unstoppable. This race will be about whose the strongest in the Alps.
Just massive amount of detail in reports with the videos. I am going to say it - the jury is out for me, I missed the classic picture style. But that is probably just me, and as I have said before its a huge effort and a brand new viewing experience with the videos.
Gadret gave a good account and needs to keep battling away if any chance of a GC top 10 will be there. Like that the guys are attacking sensibly, just need one to work!

That was an awesome report! Very exciting with the videos, I just don't know if that amount of work for a report is sustainable.
I'm very glad that Florentino Marquez is fine after his crash, which is very apparent as he even beat Amador today. Hopefully he will have a better Tour than his Vuelta was, but I think things are going to change a lot when we hit the real mountains.
Too bad for Riblon though, I think that crash messed him up

Awww, so close. Now lets take the jersey back on the flat stages and make it 5.

I agree on all counts. I almost always read these reports on my phone which takes ages to load YouTube. The earlier stages were great where both ways of doing things were an option. I appreciate how much effort you are putting in SN and that I'm in the minority, so just ignore this really.

I would not say a minority, same for me here, but i am just a spectator and still the reports are great, it has to take ages to do this report. But i liked them more in classic picture style with two or three videos to spice it up.

That's close in the GC, but ominous that on the first Summit finish Cunego has won. A lot of leaders lost ground here, although none of them were really big favourites. |

In terms of the video report, I decided to do it to best reperesent the nature of the stage - in this case, easier to tell the story with videos and some lines of explanation than having to pick out a load of photos to explain it - plus on a stage where bad positioning was so costly for many, videos were a great way for managers to keep track of their riders all the way up the climb.
It's the only stage report of it's type in this year's race - photos galore for the rest. The Alpe d'Huez stage may even need to be in multiple parts Its not as time consuming as some might think, when you consider that Ive been doing this race off and on for about a month and a half. Also my target audience for reports will always be computers - not phones!

Wow, just caught up with these, and I've gotta say - amazing reports SN. The inclusion of videos in some parts to better explain the situation (like the analysis of the mass crash) is brilliant.
As for the race, Trofimov's had an excellent first week, and it's been in general an exciting race, although it really sucks for all the teams that have had their leaders crashing or losing time due to being held up.
Looking forward to the following stages.

Ohh, and cool experiment with the videos. I do agree though, that combination or pictures is more for me. Like someone else said my phone is often used, and here I just jumped to the results, which is a shame. Huuuge thumbs up for effort and experiments though!!!

Sprints seem risky business, but Ventoso rounded it off nicely here. Everyone can thank Vesuvio for their hard work once again.
