On the first of June, after a month of resting, Farnese resumes racing in Luxembourg. Our top riders aren't really back to training yet, so this month some of the lieutenants will get their chances at success.
As you can see the form isn't that great yet. We will try to be in every break and maybe get a stage victory that way.
Stage 1
A short prologue isn't really our thing. Flens wins, our best rider isn't even in the top 50.
Stage 2
After a somewhat lumpy start this stage will end flat and looks to be the best sprinter chance. Hulsmans goes in the break himself. But while he's able to win the first KoM, by the time the 2nd KoM approaches the group has grown considerably. Cappelle takes the second prize while Hulsmans can't manage to score points. They will share the lead in the KoM competition. In the end the pack catches the break. A big fall in the final 10 k catches 5 of our riders, including Hulsmans. Goss wins.
Stage 3
The toughest day on paper. Also the day with the most KoM points. So we decide to control hard at the start. For 50 km we don't allow a break to form. In the end Hulsmans goes solo. He gets the first prize, but is caught before the triple ascent in the finale. But the group of favorites are attacking each other relentlessly and each time a different rider is first to top the climb. As such Hulsmans takes the solo lead. Goss shows he's tough and stays in a group of 17 where he wins the sprint and takes the leader jersey.
Stage 4
The early break that forms is joined by Rabottini to protect our mountain jersey. That group consists of people who haven't scored points anyway, but Rabottini takes the first KoM anyway. Halfway through there's another attack, this time with Cappelle. Luckily he's the weakest of the 4 who join up at the front and doesn't score points. Rabottini is dropped in the end, but remains of the early and late break make it all the way to the finish, where Rathe takes the stage. Goos remains leader.
Stage 5
After yesterdays breakaway victory, we will try to take this stage from a break. A group of 8 forms and no one has scored KoM points so far. With 10 points to be scored today and Hulsmans on 11 it looks safe. So Caccia can relax in the break. They get a big lead indeed and will contest the stage amongst themselves. Caccia can't keep up however and is dropped. While Petit takes the stage it appears Goss and GreenEdge have miscalculated the lead they allowed. Because Ista, the best placed rider in the break, has enough advantage over the pack to take over the lead from Goss in the final stage.
Final Classification
1 | Kevyn Ista | Accent Jobs - Willems Veranda's | 17h10'28 | 2 | Matthew Goss | GreenEdge Cycling Team | + 36 | 3 | Sandy Casar | FDJ - BigMat | + 48 | 4 | Pierrick Fédrigo | FDJ - BigMat | + 1'02 | 5 | Anthony Roux | FDJ - BigMat | + 1'06 | 6 | Staf Scheirlinckx | Accent Jobs - Willems Veranda's | + 1'13 | 7 | Robert Gesink | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 8 | Ramunas Navardauskas | Garmin - Barracuda | + 1'15 | 9 | David Moncoutié | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | s.t. | 10 | Kristof Vandewalle | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | + 1'16 |
Note: Hulsmans wins the KoM jersey.

A small stage race in the Netherlands. Very flat with cobbles and a short prologue being the main characteristics. Hopefully Hulsmans will be able to do something on the last cobbled stage.
Stage 1
Cancellara wins this as expected, our riders are a bit further down. Hulsmans is down 42 seconds even.
Stage 2
The cobbles in the middle part of the race split up the pack twice, but in the end it all stays together. Caccia tried his luck in the break, but the pack tried to organize a mass sprint and they were caught with 20 to go. The final 5 kilometer saw numerous attacks however and in the end it´s de Vocht who wins solo, 21 seconds in front of sprinters Rasmussen and van Dijk. Hulsmans comes in 10th.
Stage 3
The toughest stage will decide if anyone can get the lead from Cancellara. Giordani joins 4 others in the break, but they keep attacking each other. Van Impe and Chainel overtake the single escapees and build up a 6 mintue lead going into the final 60 kilometers. RadioShack doesn´t really take control and van Vooren tries to bridge solo. Finally Sky takes the responsibility and brings down the gap.
With 30 to go van Impe has dropped Chainel and has 1 minute on him, 2 minutes on van Vooren and 3 on the 60 rider peloton. But with 20 to go Sky stops pulling so Hulsmans senses his time has come. He attacks and no one responds. He rides up to van Vooren, but can´t shake him over the last cobbles. He then decides to sit in the wheel when they catch van Impe with 5 to go. Van Impe is forced to lead out as the trio still have over 2 minutes left going into the final 3 km. Hulsmans times perfectly and takes the stage and overall, thanks to van Vooren who beats van Impe for 2nd.
Final General Classification
1 | Kevin Hulsmans | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | 9h09'02 | 2 | Kevin Van Impe | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | + 3 | 3 | Steven Van Vooren | Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator | + 5 | 4 | Fabian Cancellara | RadioShack - Nissan | + 1'43 | 5 | Svein Tuft | GreenEdge Cycling Team | + 1'46 | 6 | Alex Rasmussen | Garmin - Barracuda | + 1'48 | 7 | Leif Hoste | Accent Jobs - Willems Veranda's | + 1'51 | 8 | Wim De Vocht | Accent Jobs - Willems Veranda's | + 1'55 | 9 | Martin Kohler | BMC Racing Team | + 1'58 | 10 | Ramunas Navardauskas | Garmin - Barracuda | + 1'59 |

Yes Delta Tour Zeeland. Picture didn't work at first.
And indeed an epic win, it just felt so right to attack at that moment when Sky stopped pushing. Everything worked out beautifully.

We bring the same team here as in the Delta Tour Zeeland. Our expactations are low though, as the route doesn't really suit our riders. We will look to be in the break every day.
Stage 1
As always the prologue is our weak point, with no one in the top 50. The prologue itself is won by Alex Rasmussen.
Stage 2
Rated flat, but the finish is on a short hill. Giordani and Hulsmans are in the break, but the peloton keeps it controlled. Giordani picks up 10 mountain points on the way, but as there are 16 to be had on the final hill he will miss out on the jersey. In the sprint the brothers Raymond and Michel Kreder score a 1-2 for Garmin. They even gap the pack and take first 2 spots in GC too.
Stage 3
Today it's Ricci Bittis turn to try the break, but again the pack keeps tight control. In the mass sprint Favilli falls short with a 18th spot. The sprint is won by Veelers in front of Michel Kreder, who takes the leader jersey form his brother.
Stage 4
The toughest stage in the Belgian Ardennes. Giordani sets out to battle for the KoM jersey over the many climbs, but Geschke had the same idea. Giordani manages to keep a 2 point lead over the German however by finishing 2nd on most climbs. Once again the break is caught in the end. 25 riders sprint after the final climb, Michel Kreder takes the stage and finalizes his GC lead. Hulsmans gets a very nice 5th place.
Stage 5
No more climbs today so Giordani is safe. Favilli tries the break today, but Rabobank want a sprint here. That's what happens in the end. And while Veelers is close to the win it's Renshaw who finishes the effort begun by his team.
Final classification
1 | Michel Kreder | Garmin - Barracuda | 18h02'26 | 2 | Raymond Kreder | Garmin - Barracuda | + 33 | 3 | Martin Kohler | BMC Racing Team | + 59 | 4 | Stephen Cummings | BMC Racing Team | + 1'00 | 5 | Thomas Dekker | Garmin - Barracuda | + 1'06 | 6 | Pieter Weening | GreenEdge Cycling Team | s.t. | 7 | Yaroslav Popovych | RadioShack - Nissan | + 1'07 | 8 | Sven Nys | Landbouwkrediet - Euphony | + 1'09 | 9 | David Moncoutié | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | s.t. | 10 | Ramunas Navardauskas | Garmin - Barracuda | + 1'10 | 18 | Kevin Hulsmans | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 1'30 |
note; Giordani takes the KoM jersey

End of June are the NCs as you all know. I simulated them as I didn't stand a chance anyway with most riders out of form. here are the overviews.
ITT champions
RR champions
König beating Kreuziger for Czech champion is the biggest surprise I guess.

Nibali as TT champion of Italy... nice, though odd.
The ZLM Tour was always going to be tough for your guys, so at least you got something out it it.

The team is a bit small and I'm pretty much targetting all those Italian one-day race in September/October. So the results for July won't be great either, except for Guardini hopefully. He will target the Eneco Tour to win stages.
After that it's back to Pozzato, Gatto and Failli for hilly classics.

As it's now July talks with riders have started. While the whole world looks to France and the Tour we work quietly and contact several riders to ride for us next season.
After our good results and strong position in the rankings after the first 6 months of 2012 we find open ears for our offers. I'm glad to announce the signings of 6 new riders. The names are;
Mattia Cattaneo
This young Italian is a big prospect for stage races. We're glad he agreed to join us and we hope to provide him with an environment that's both nurturing and challening.
Mauro Finetto
After some lean years at Liquigas we hope that a new team will make him forget all about his forced sabbatical.
Matteo Trentin
Maybe the biggest Italian prospect for cobbled terrain. As such we just had to have him and we made him an offer he couldn't refuse. He will switch from OPQS to us next year. We hope he can support Pozzato and get experience while doing that.
Salvatore Puccio
Another talent for cobbles that somehow ended up in a foreign team. Luckily we were able to get him away from Team Sky and into our roster. Will be a big asset for the Belgian races.
Aidis Kruopis
Young, fast and agile, he combines skills we like to see in our team. Kruopis will exchange Australia for Italy and join us in 2013.
Tomas Vaitkus
While Kruopis is young, Vaitkus has loads of experience. We hope he can keep tutoring his countryman in our ranks. His experience on the cobbles will be a big help for Pozzato.

Yeah, very happy with the availability of both Trentin and Puccio. Together with Kruopis and Vaitkus this should lead to a way better cobbled squad.
But the transfers aren't done yet. While Gatto and Failli are fairly successful we need another big name to go to the ProTour.
And we need more riders as well, but that's been taken care of. We had 18 riders at the start of the season. I renewed all contracts except Bertolini. With all new signings I have in mind we will have a 25 men roster next season. That should keep us competitive throughout the season.
