17.2.14 Tour of Oman - Stage 3
Sur - Sur
Its another flat stage today, so chances are I will be working for Boasson Hagen again! I like doing it though, so its no problem for me. The winds aren't as strong today, so maybe the team will have more energy for the end of the race this time, and can pull back any breakaway riders, if any are left.
The action began with a breakaway of 10 riders and after yesterday we weren't not getting a rider in the break, so we designated Atkins who basically sat there all day!
Now with about 8km left, the break of 6 riders now, has a gap of 46 seconds to the peloton, so it will be very close. They can't afford to paly around now. Someone may have to sacrifice their win to get the potential time bonus.
Michael Barry tries his luck for RIM, and it looks like the winning move! Atkins tries to get in his wheel, but the rest of the break catch Atkins quickly.
But the peloton catch Barry, and Richeze of Nippo gets the great sprint win! Boasson Hagen looked strong, and before he could start his sprint early, he was already too late, and got boxed in. Its frustrating of course, but he will get the hang of it eventually.

Thanks guys! Next stage coming up shortly. As you'll notice I suck at PCM 11 for some reason. Hopefully that changes soon.

18.2.14 Tour of Oman - Stage 4
Sultan Qaboos University - Jabal al Akhdhar
Its the queen stage for this ever growing race in the desert. I feel that Bauke and Chris Froome can put out a good result for the team today, although Boasson Hagen is in much better form and has been known to climb fairly well, so we'll have to wait and see. Like normal the team will want a rider in the break, but I doubt I will be given that role as I may be needed on the final climb if our leader is feeling good!
The first half of the stage was filled with a bunch of attacks! A group of 22 riders were clear at one point but they weren't given a lot of time, so that move failed. Boasson Hagen was feeling good so he was let go, but the move didn't last long either as he was seen as a threat to the leaders.
So Ignatiev tries a move with 2 riders a couple seconds ahead of him, up the road. It was a good try, and but he was also brought back.
So then current race leader Matthias Freidemann attacks, knowing that he will fall out of it on the climb, as that is his biggest weakness. Its a good idea, and he reaches the front group just before the foot of the final climb.
With just over 5km left, the break is just about to be swept up. Froome is in terrible shape and has already dropped back. I'm clinging on to the back of the main group but its not looking good for me, and Bauke and Eddy are in obvious pain from the climb but are still sitting near the front.
Geniez of 1T4i attacks and gets a good 20 second gap! This is a shock move, as he was not one of the favourites for the stage, although he is known as being a strong climber so he could be in great form.
Later he's met by Cannone and Tiralongo and they begin to sprint for the line. It will be close for one of these 3, and the winner will likely be the overall leader too, as long as they are awarded the time gap.
And Geniez gets it! What a great move by him initially and then to finish it off with the win! Great day for the former Skil-Shimano team as well! Mollema and Eddy finished in the Top 15, but over a minute down on the stage. I was able to keep up with the back of the peloton so I'm quite happy with my ride, especially as I'm not in that great form yet.

The pictures are stunning as usually, everytime I read your reports I kick myself for being to cheap to buy a better graphics card To bad the results aren't up to par yet.

Geniez!
And it's strange that the race leader seem to attack every time just before the final climb on this stage. Haven't played it once without experiencing it!

Was just coming in here to tell you guys about my addictions, to Football Manager and Fifa Ultimate Team... but now I'm motivated to do this more and more.
I'll get the Time Trial out tomorrow, or try my best to anyway.
Thanks a lot everyone! My settings aren't even maxxed in all areas
I was worried I had over edited the final picture, but I'm glad you guys are enjoying it!

Its the time gaps in this game. They are terrible.
The riders were spaced out well, so even though the peloton came in 35 seconds after him, the 15 seconds to #2 and then 20 to the peloton were enough to make it s.t.

19.2.14 Tour of Oman - Stage 5 (ITT)
AL Jissah
Its the all important TT and I want to try and move up just a little bit in the GC. My team mates Froome and Boasson Hagen, as well as Mollema will surely be looking to move into the Top 10, so for me, I will go on a bit of a recon and give info back for my teammates to use.
One of the teams first riders to go out is Ignatiev, and he has a solid early run finishing in the Top 5 at the time, but his time is easily beaten later on, by the favourites.
David Boily also sets off for the team, but his run is quite bad. He will want to work on that, if he is to stay with the team, although the sponsors are quite unhappy with the amount of Canadians, so maybe not.
Its now my time. I start out of the gates quickly. My strategy is to hit the climb hard and then recover a bit on the descent to make a final push later. I felt good, and I knew I was one of the better TT'ers in the field, could this be my day?
I make the final lunge for the line, and I can take a deep breath, feeling happy. I hear my name being called as the new 3rd place time! I'm ecstatic with the sound of that, although starting mid-day means I will have to patiently wait for the other riders to finish up, and potentially pass me.
Eddy, gets going on his TT, one of the last riders to leave. He sets the first time check on fire, with the new fastest time.
And what a finish! He takes the first spot by 20 seconds! There are only a few top TT'ers left to come in. This will be exciting!
Ruben Plaza is the final threat to come in. As he crosses the line, Eddy can't help but look away. He's very nervous as this would be a massive win for the team, who are a little low on morale at the moment, as we are underachieving currently. But Plaza is just a few seconds short! Great win for Eddy and Sky!

Is Veilleuz a TTer? I thought he was more a stage race person but I may be wrong
Also is it your editing or you graphics settings that make the pictures so good? Could you show a comparison or something? |
