RCS Sport, the organizer of Giro 'd Italia, Tirreno, Milano - San Remo, etc. has presented a new race: Monte Paschi Eroica. It has already existed as an amateur race in 11 years, but from next year it will also be a pro race.
Danilo Di Luca, Filippo Pozzato, Daniele Bennati, Alessandro Ballan and Fabian Cancellara are already on the rider list for next year's race. Benatti has said that it's a very interesting route, and that he thinks it can become a PT-race. |

The Tour of Ireland has confirmed a 2008 tour, the dates may change and are currently in talks with the UCI about this.
Also due to the sucess most sponsors are putting more money in.
The Tour also recognized ITV 4's coverage and praised it.

Peter Van Petegem bowed out of professional racing today in a kermesse in Desselgem, Belgium. The 37-year-old Quick Step rider finished in the bunch, one lap down on winner and team mate Steven de Jongh.
Van Petegem celebrated on the podium with his family and team mate Serge Baguet who also retired today. Both riders ended their careers in what turned out to be a largely uneventful race, but the significance of it brought in large crowds.
The Belgian media was also out in force, a measure of the regard Van Petegem is held in.
The East-Flandrian had his best year in 2003 when he did the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix double (winning both in the space of a week), one of only nine men to do so.
Van Petegem was also well known, and well loved by the Flandrians, for his three victories in Het Volk, the race that traditionally opens the Belgian racing season.
Van Petegem twice finished the Tour de France, but rarely showed any form when racing outside of the spring classics season. He has recently expressed his desire to continue working within the sport as a Director Sportif or team manager.

whoops, oh well Ulrich's career is over and so that one should be case closed.
The Spanish Cycling Federation says the UCI is basing their claims on Valverde on a newspaper article.
It may be that he goes to the worlds, not sure yet.

they have nothing on him, so they can't stop him.
doesn't matter who thinks or even knows he's doped or not doped. there's nothing on him. he can go.
the UCI are doing themselves and the sport no favours by doing this.

i want to see Valverde there, the UCI are going on "word of mouth". Let him go, if they get real evidence then stop him.

exactly. the only thing that will piss me off is if he wins. then it'll feel tainted. then again, the current one already does, so....who cares...

new ProTour licenses are only issued in December. there's a whole application process between the end of the season (October 23rd) and the end of the year.
of course, they'll end up being rejected by ASO and Unipublic....unless of course they're french....
