More importantly, Eritrea with 3!

They are cunning, they ran the Tour of Eritrea and didn't invite any foreigners, thus getting them above South Africa.

In 2012 the Tour de Pologne will be parallel to the Tour de France, because of the Olympic games.

2 years ago they changed it to avoid the Vuelta at the same time, now they have to share it again with a GT. I hope they will still have a good start list there.

I think they will, because it may be a better race to get them into shape for the road race. The Tour takes a lot out of a rider and in Poland the race won;t be as tough, so some good riders might make an appearance for preparation.

An even worse position is Sylwester Szmyd, will he try help Basso to a GT win through mountains or race his home race ^.-

Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that a Russian National team are going to the Tour of Tasmania?

Also, how does Iran get 6 riders, but the defending champ only has three support riders in the WC?

Iran gets 6 riders because they basically own the Asia Tour, while the country which own the world of cycling only has two riders of note, plus another good enough to score points.

Norway is 23rd in the Europe Tour ranking, below known superpowers such as Bulgaria, Estonia or Turkey, while Iran, as you see, is pwning the Asia Tour:

1 (1)IRANIRI1,282
2 (2)JAPANJPN890
3 (3)KAZAKHSTANKAZ348
4 (4)MALAYSIAMAS289
5 (5)KOREAKOR230

If you throw a shovelful of earth each time Gesink kisses the tarmac, I reckon that mountain would beat the Elbrus as Europe's tallest by the time Robert retires. Pfft

Fishy situation in Astana (translation from a l'Equipe article).

The end of Career Alexandre Vinokourov is decidedly complicated. After a heavy fall on the ninth stage of the Tour de France, where he broke his femur, Kazakh confirmed that 2011 would be his last season. Friday, the rider was informed that he was no longer part of the Astana team, his team created for him in 2006, he was the undisputed leader. Aidar Makhmetov, marketing executive in Astana, organized a scheme to maintain its position as a strong man. Indeed, Vinkourov was promised a manager position. This logical evolution wasn't to the liking of Makhmetov.

Makhmetov brought back Andrei Kashechkin, a former rider of the blue and yellow team before being suspended two years for doping in 2007. The International Cycling Union issued by mistake an 29th professional license in his name. The rules in effect limit the number of licensees to 28 per team. The International Federation, asking for explanations in Astana, was told that Vinokourov had broken his contract, and therefore had a free place. A false statement, but it was too late to withdraw Astana and Kashechkin from the Vuelta. "I'm still racing. I have a current contract (through 2012, ed.) I am particularly disappointed by what has just taken place in secret at my expense, "Vinokourov has responded to the team.

The UCI will of course strike back against Astana regulates by requiring the situation quickly. "We will not bear having to be so." Released from the hospital of La Pitié-Salpêtrière, Paris, with a medical clearance for sports, Friday, Alexandre Vinokourov looks forward to start the Tour of Lombardy.

Astana hadn't room for another rider when they signed Kashechkin, so they claimed they had because Vino had allegedly retired. Now Vino wants to race again for the last time* in the Giro di Lombardia, so he is upset.

* Wanna bet he'll have a contract with Astana for 2012 so his points help the team get a WT license?

Indeed. I can try to translate in my own words.

Astana had 28 riders under contract, which is the maximum number of riders allowed by UCI. Kashechkin was signed a few weeks ago, and in order to make the transfer legal, this Makhmetov guy pretended that Vinokourov had resigned. Made sense to UCI since Vino had said that his career was over.

However this turned out to be a lie. Vinokourov has never resigned, and, as we now know, wants to race again. This Makhmetov apparently wanted Vinokourov out of his way, so that he could keep his managing position. I guess that Vinokourov was set to take his job after his retirement.

The UCI investigates, but they are also partly responsible, since they have delivered this illegal 29th licence.

Won't use google translate again!

The way I read this it wouldn't be Vino's fault, but maybe I'm missing something?
