This race could be won by either a sprinter and a time trailist, with only one time trail in the race they will have to be on form.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0002-25.jpg

Today's break was a large group, but due to the number of riders away and the fact it is stage one they were quickly reeled in by the chasing peleton.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0003-23.jpg

So it came down to what all the sprinters will hope for this week, a sprint finish and it was won by Traksel of Landbouwkrediet.

Angers, the location of today’s stage is a short TT, the winner of this years race could well come from this.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0001-34.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0006-21.jpg

Europcar’s main man for this TT was Veilleux but he came 39th 30 seconds down on winner Dominique Cornu.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0008-12.jpg

Today’s winner Cornu takes to the podium to collect his accolades on what was a super performance by the Belgian.

Stage 4

This hilly conquest continues in the Basque Country, with Euskaltels Sanchez in the lead and his team controlling the race, who can break what is a strong performance by the Basque team.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0009-14.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0010-12.jpg

A break of 12 went away with big names including Morabito and Kruijwijk in the group, this made the group a danger for the GC favourites.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0012-9.jpg

After the break was swept up a group of 3 riders began to pull away of the front of the peleton, these were Voeckler, Bertagnolli and Danielson.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0014-6.jpg

Voeckler wasn’t caught and he lead over the line to take a solo win, fantastic win for the Europcar team.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0015-5.jpg

Sanchez lead over a group of 3 which included Contador and Rodrigiez.

Stage 3

Today's thrid stage is made for a sprint finish, long flat roads with a wide finish, perfect for a bunch sprint.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0004-30.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0006-22.jpg

After the tradional cycling feature, the breakaway was caught, it was down to a bunch sprint. Landbouwkrediet were in control at the front trying set up their man Bobbie Traksel.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0007-17.jpg

But it wasn't to be for the Belgian team as Samuel Dumoulin sprints to a stage win. A fantastic win for the little Frenchman and for Cofidis.

Stage 4

Today is final stage here and the last chance for the sprinters who are yet to win a stage to do so. Promises to be a fiesty sprint today.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0013-6.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0015-6.jpg

As has been the feature here, a break went away consisting of 10 riders but were never given a chance of staying clear. It was a close sprint between Europcar, Cofidis and Landbouwkrediet, but Dumoulin just pipped Chavenal to the line. Both Fench sprinters profited from sitting on Traksel wheel in the closing Km's.

Stage 5

Today is the last chance for any GC contenders who are not stong time trailist to gain time on the others.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0008-13.jpg

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0009-15.jpg

A break was clear, it consisted of 10 riders but Sanchez has clearly ordered his team to keep the gap manageable.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0011-10.jpg

With the break caught passed and dropped there was the a group of all the main favourites, who has the strength to get away.

i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu204/Ste117_2009/PCM0012-10.jpg

The answer was no one and Voeckler proved to be the fastest in the sprint by taking yet another stage win.

Here we are in Maastricht for the Amstel Gold Race, their a number of strong riders who could win in today's finish town of Valkenburg. It is expected to be a tough hard race today as the favourites will look to drop as many riders as they can. But this race is known for surprise winners, could we have one this year, I wonder!
