6 Mountaintop finishes. The 2700m Sierra Nevada on Stage 4, E.E. La Covatilla on the 9th, La Manzaneda on the 11th, Lagos de Somiedo on the 14th followed by the Anglirú the next day, then Peña Cabarga again with a stage in between.
Stages 5, 6 and 8(hilltop finish) also have important climbs. Same with stages 13 (two 1st categories) and stages 18,19 and 20 with hilly/mountainous profiles including three 1st categories
Two time trials. 16kms in the first day (Possibly a TTT) and 40kms later on.

- 6 top finish (Sierra Nevada, La Covatilla, Cabeza de Manzaneda, La Farrapona, Angliru and Pena Cabarga).
- 1 high mountain non top finish stage (Ponferrada).
- Plenty medium mountain stages.
