That's nice, 80 year old races in France and Italy can't find sponsors and you want to expand to Columbia?
I'm not opposed to it, but the last thing cycling needs to do right now is try to globalize. Cycling needs to stick on its base and survive the economic and doping problems it has right now. Also, first, the US, Britain, and Russia all need PT races.
Dude, you have no idea how big cycling is in Colombia and South-America. There is a big, untapped market there.
You got to move ahead, and not stay stuck in old ways. Don't be so narrow minded. Narrow mindedness is what kills a sport.
That isn't the point. There is no money there. I'm not saying a PT event in Columbia wouldn't have huge crowds and be successful, but I'm damn sure it would cost the UCI and the organizers dough, which they don't have right now.
There is more to being a untapped market than just the size of the fan base. |

And that's exactly why Pat McQuaid (UCI) said this back in 2007:
"I believe that many bicycle fans in China know the Tour de France. We hope to make the Tour of China an event as important and popular as the Tour de France. The race would be part of the elite ProTour calendar. We are all looking forward to it."
China has no fan base and history, only money |

Sorry, but I can't see there being any money in Britain or Russia, both are small cycling markets and none of the companys seems to have interest in cycling (Katusha and sky excluded). Getting sponsors for a PT event in Columbia would be way easier, way more crowds and columbians watching it on TV than there would be brits or russians. Columbian sponsors would gain very much from sponsoring a such event compared to britisk or russian companys.

Cycling is the biggest it's ever been here, and there's a notable increase each year that goes by.
And don't underestimate the power of Sky.. ever. I'd estimate over half of homes in the country recieves their channels, or has their product.

I think that a PT race would have circa the same chances of surviving more than one year in both Colombia and GB.

So do I.
I think however the Kazach races are likely to fail in the first year for sure.

They better be the best damn races there are, since the UCI killed off the very successful women's leg of the World Cup for it; just so the men can have yet another race they have to attend, even if they don't want to.
judging by comments and name does this mean we finally have a woman on the forum?

Servais Knaven has stated that he will retire at the end of this season at the age of 39(on the 15th of August to be precise). Knaven finished his 16th Paris - Roubaix last sunday, which is a record he holds now together with Raymond Impanis. My respect to this guy. |

Meh, stupid article.
If Contador already beats him in a time trial in Tour form. How the feck is Cancellara ever going to compete if he slims down and loses some power on the flat?
He'll maybe be 3rd/4th best climber but also 3rd/4th best time trialler and still lose to Contador.
And that's looking at this positively.
Forget it Canc. Just focus on Liege and Lombardy, then we'll see |

In order to boost the development of cycling in Kazakhstan even more, Samruk-Kazyna (National Wealth Fund) will allocate 300.000 euroes to cycling in Kazakhstan this year.
Future looks good in the east.

cancellara in top form >>>>>> contador in top form in any race that doesnt involve lots of climbing. i think if cancellara slimmed down he would probably still be at least as good, if not better than contador. he'd struggle to stay with contador's accelerations in the mountains, but if he could get into a rythm and time trial his way to the top i dont think he'd lose too much time. of course wether he wants to devote his entire season to becoming a gt rider or not is a completely different matter |

Cancellara WILL lose power if he loses weight! And the last TT in the tour last year showed that he doesn't have the recuperation to compete in a GT.
