about thread...I have nothing against Garzelli, but this is sad when intermediate sprint seconds will decide a tour winner |

Yeah, so you didn't see that he tried to put Hunter in the gutter to prevent their train coming past?
Good example, other than that.
So he won the sprint only because of that 1 KM from finish?
Look again, he outsprints Tyler Farrar and Boonen completely.
https://www.youtub...uBW_u-PsmE
.
Boonen begins 2-3 rider lengths behind him and ends just 1 bike length behind. Due to Hagen's lead out rather than his sprint.
I don't rate Farrar too highly either. His ginger beard puts me off.
Like I said, it was a good example of Hagen's sprinting ability, other than the fact he veers on putting guys into the gutter.

I don't envy Hagen at all. I generally hate the bloke. And hate the fact he's on team Sky.
That's really sad and pathetic.
So you're telling me not to judge EBH's character, yet you're ready to judge me?
Hate may have been a strong word to use. I don't hate anyone. I just strongly dislike his style of riding.
That's fair. I don't like his sprinting style myself, but he has experienced guys at team Sky that should be able to straighten him out. |

The next Merckx? Jesus. And I thought the hype was exaggerated before...
At Hagen's age, Merckx had won 2 San remos, a Flèche, two stages of the Giro and a 9th on GC in his first ever GT (a Giro). Among a host of smaller race wins.
Not to mention that at this age Merckx was the reigning world champion
And then there's Merckx's youth results which were faaaaaaar more impressive
Well, the hype does come from Eddy Merckx, he was interviewed (i don't remember by who, could have been Real Peloton podcast SN please confirm). But Merckx when asked about if he was the next eddy merckx said "I believe so, yes"
There's no point slapping a schleck - Sean Kelly on "Who needs a slap"

I thought it was more of a 'take with a pinch of salt' quote, since the question was asked to Merckx when at Oman, the race he was one of the main organisers for

Either way though, i agree with isso, the EBH hype is far too big. *Remembers giro 2009 antics on the forum*

On the subject i posted on a cyclingweekly internet article complaining about their sky-loving and this was the reply i got from someone:
I am sure if you check the overhead footage of yesterdays sprint finish, you will see Tyler Farrar was cut up by Pettachi who was on the wrong side of Boasson Hagen. It was a sprint finish down a wide staight road.

What's with all the EBH hate on this forum? I think a DQ would have been fully justifiable but jeez, take it easy..

Nah, it wasn't an over-reaction to the EBH love. I posted up my dislike before any love was shown.
But anyway, everyone's entitled to their own opinion...
Now don't get me started on Ignatiev...

I get your point, but to be honest, I think it's because of the EBH hype that flooded this forum last year
Personally, I only hope the best for him. Looking forward to see whether he'll be able to pull off a result on Saturday. |

About EBH:
He's the new 'Cannibal', isn't he?
Sigh.
