Thats the route i did today, i did it with my sister who has recently got back from Holland after soon racing. It was a really windy day and i did most of the work! Plenty of climbs but i love climbs. I think they are easy but i think to some people they are pretty hard. How do they look to you?

Average speed of about 17mph and thats hard in mostly Head winds Rolling Eyes took us about 2 hours. and Finally i got up to 43 mph on that last down hill. Once ive had it up to 52 Mph down there! Grin

Looks pretty easy to me, but I love hills and mountainsWink Plus you only went 44kms. However I hate wind, can't stand it so I never go out in wind. It's pretty much always windy as well, that's why I think I'd suit track cycling better, but then there'd be no mountainsRolling Eyes

How far would you normally do then on a normal ride?

Addy291
About 75kms normally, some rides get up to around 110kms though. I much prefer cycling in Spain though, riding in the mountains constantly whilst getting a tan and very little windB)

When we're in Spain we only ever do around 50kms as it's much hotter.

I do a bit more when I have time. Work and school cut down on riding a bit so when I get to ride, especially if i can ride with a teamate we go far. This last weekend my teamate and I did 120k's with 20-30 MPH winds the whole time with one 7 mile climb up Pine Flat then 5 more miles of climbing up Los Almos. Yesterday I got home from school at 4 and met the same teamate at the bottom of a road called Chalk Hill were we traded ass kickings then hit the flats to go to a local industrial park were crits are held weekly from may till august and simulated a race (which I won of course ousprinting him after chasing him down) The Prize was an empty Clif Shot and bragging rights.

44 k's would be good for a day that I don't have time. Even with the coastal winds around here Average speed is usually around 35 k's an hour unless you take on one of the longer climbs like Trinity, Ida Clayton, Pine Flat or Los Almos. I prefer the flats. My crappy ass Bianchi plus my 160 lbs compared to some of my teamates (120 lbs 2007 Tarmac Pro) doesn't do me much good on long hill though on punchy hills i can be up there.

Thats my 70 mile ride from the weekend. Needless to say that I was exhausted having to go to work 30 minutes after I got back. I was visibly shaking for 3 hours until I got some food.4 bottles of water 2 clif shots and a vatmin water were not enough.

I got a crit today and I had illusions of doing well there until I checked the startlist yesterday. The last rider to sign up? Taylor Kuphaldt, who frequently top 10's at pro races. Now I just wanna survivePfft

Hahaha Levi! Can i ask how old you are? And to me 75km is nothing any more. Having ridden home from Exeter in one day (140 MILES - 224 KILOMETRES) over 9000+ ft of climbing nothing looks bad anymore. Smile I regularly now do 4 hours of training on a sunday, and 3 on the saturday, so you're looking at covering anywhere from 50-60miles (80km+) on saturday and 70-80 miles (120km+) on sunday. Not to mention the chain gang on tuesday night with Category 1 riders who have been riding the premier calender in the UK and thursdays time trials. All in all i have one wrecked body! And a rubbish bike Sad But i'm gunna build myself a nice new carbon one for next year. Grin

17 as of today. I will be racing the Juniors races this afternoon and to give you an idea of how good Taylor is he took second at Snelling RR behind Eric Wohlberg and ahead of Daniel Holloway and Ken hanson. Then again there are more impressive Juniors in this area such as my team captain Tyler Brandt who might just end up on the WC team and Ryan Eastman who finished the "grasshopper" (an underground race that is always dominated by pros from around here) 6th, only a few minutes behind Levi and Scott Nydam and he turns 16 this year.

As for me I suckPfft I podium here and there but have never won a race

Well as I expected with Kuphaldt in there today he attacked with one of his teamates (Alex Wick) and they lapped the field I got caught behind a crash. 1 kid blew out going around a corner and slid on his chest still clipped in finally stopping at the sidewalk. Kuphaldt and Wick are both rediculously strong riders but their team is great. Both of them ran a leadout for one of their teamtes to take third but he was beat in the sprint. Not bad for Davis BC though 1st 2nd and 4th. I finished anonamously but I felt good all race and avoided the crashes. I was working for myslef though because my only 2 teamates that raced were 12 and 13 repectively. It was a good race though and I went ot my coach's house after and she gave me free shitB) Then I went to the Bike store and they gave me free shitB) Then I swung by work and they gave me free foodB) Its good to be the birthday boy:lol:

Am at uni up in York, really looking to push out the stall with my cycling this term and get out as many days as possible... gradual progression from 2-3 mile MTB pootles to 30-40 mile rides in the last 4 years, and it needs to continue. I'm not exhibiting a natural talent, but being skinny, 11 stone and 5'10", I figure I can at least hack Cat 4 if I train...

Can do a '10' in 29 mins, but I know that's nothing. I've told myself once I get it down to 27, I'll try racing... once it's down to 26, maybe take out the razor and go continental on my legs. A few TTs this summer, maybe a chaingang or two...

Nice one, well if i look at my own progression, 3 years ago i was doing my first competitions, 10 miles in 33 minutes, and now im probably down to 24 minutes, and just churned out an 18'57 for 8 miles 2-up this past week, so you can quite rapidly increase to a good level. I'm a cat 3 now, looking for my cat 2 this year (got 26 points last year - needed 40). Try and start doing chain gangs as soon as you can, because even if you get dropped on the first one after 5 miles you get to see how fast it is and it will motivate you to be able to stick with it. Thats how it's happened to me. I used to hang in the whole time, then last year it was built up to doing more turns on the front, and this year I am on the front from the go shelling the group to bits. There is nothing like a chain gang that will develop the levels of fitness you need for racing. If you can hack a chain gang, you can hack a cat 4 circuit race, easy peasy!

Grin continental on your legs  it's a must for anyone B) Gotta look the part ya know, even when you get dropped Rolling Eyes

On the other hand, I love the idea of getting in a break and the other guys thinking "Well, he's s***, he hasn't even shaved his legs." And then beating them all at the finish....

Definitely will get out into the chaingangs, and if I'm honest - no shame in this - bike handling needs improving too. I figure it will be a struggle to keep up though. Fine, I;m not afraid of pain Wink
