Greipel comes into the stage as the favourite once again, yesterday showed that counts for little.
Bazayev on the front, splendid in Polka dots!
Unlike yesterday there was a big push to get into the break today. Multiple riders from many teams, realising a break is the best and only chance of a victory, attacked from the get go.
Eventually everything simmered down and 12 riders managed to get away including 3 riders from Androni. The break: Pedrovski, Xu, Parinello, Ermeti, Cammaerts, Facchini, Thwaites, Simon, Failli, Finetto, Moreno and Gerard. The peloton had to be weary as multiple riders in the break were only '20 down on GC.
A good day for Pedrovski = a good day for Rusvelo.
The Russian was fastest at one intermediate sprint and was the quickest through both KOM checkpoints on the day, he moves into the lead in the battle for the KOM jersey.

The peloton always looked in control. The protagonists leading the bunch today in the chase were Lotto - Belisol and Katusha.
Firsonov Falls.
The shine of a good day for Rusvelo was erased later on in the stage when Firsonov suffered a fall. Despite most of his team waiting up he would lose 7'00 on the day and with it his GC hopes.
Pedrovski would be the last rider from the break to be caught with 10 KM to go and a sprint, as planned, is destined.
For the second straight day Lotto launch Greipel first.
If Greipel failed yesterday it was because he didn't have it in the legs. If he would fail today .... it would be because he launched has sprint with some 400 meters to go. Lotto are getting it all wrong here.
It looks like a second win for Ciolek is on the horizon.
The yellow jersey, Ciolek, has no trouble following Greipel and he would leave the 'basking shark' in his wake as he launches his sprint with just under 200 meters to go.
But Kristoff is looking good today.
The Norwegian comes from farther back but he looks to have the beating of Ciolek today. There is still time for Ciolek to get a second wind.....
But it doesn't come.
In a reversal of yesterday Kristoff takes the win with Ciolek finishing second thanks to a commanding sprint victory. D Van Poppel rounds off the podium for the second straight day. The top four are head and shoulders ahead of the rest here.
Ciolek, much to the German fans' delight, retains the yellow leaders' jersey despite being level on time with Kristoff.
Congratulations to Katusha for fulfilling the sponsor goal. Löwenherz' teammate Kristoff surely delivered here in Bayern.
Nice by Thwiates to be in the break and NetApp guys are comfortable placed in the rankings. After two stages I am not optimistic to fulfill the goal of the stage win but guys could suprirse me of course.
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
Since Kristoff took the desired win, I'm hoping to see Löwenherz get the Go-signal for some furious breakaway attempts, Mister Vodkakov.
He was a great help by achieving the team goal, but now as this is done he gets a free role to try his luck in a break and put some pressure on the team of the GC leader.
Right, if no one can fix the problem today, we'll have to start the Giro without IAM. Unfortunately, if the problem persists, we'll also have Sojasun out of TDF and Cofidis out of the Vuelta
Oh, and feel free to start up California, Belgium etc

Damn, I thought we would be racing everything with 2013 routes. I might be totally wrong, but as long as I remember when I did the planning, there has been a quite hilly stage 2.
Just asking for future: Which variants will be taken as it seems like its not always 2013?
However, I'm wondering how De Vries gets Top10 twice though he really lacks sprint ability.
Mitchell Birt (TNE) kicks off the attacks of today.
Alexandre Geniez (FDJ) and Peter Stetina (GRS) are joining him.
The group is followed by one rider: Cayetano Sarmiento (CAN) is trying to make it to the leading trio.
The pace in the pack is low and the lead grows to 2 minutes quickly.
Sky, Euskaltel, Belkin and Androni decide to pick up the early responsibility of chasing.
Despite this, the lead has grown to 4min44 at sprint 1, won by Birt.
At the Col de Mosse (Cat.2), Sarmiento beats Birt. The lead to the pack is a massive 8min35.
In the downhill we get an attack! Warren Barguil (ARG) gives it a go.
For Euskaltel, Garmin and Androni this is the reason of a rise of the pace.
The break doesn't really seem to care about this. With 100kms to go the lead is still 7 minutes, but on the climb it's increasing!
At the top of the Col de la Croix (Cat.1) Geniez beats Birt.
Even though Barguil is gaining on the pack, he is still 6 minutes behind the break at the top. His lead to the pack is a minute.
In the downhill Sarmiento gets dropped from the break.
Stetina is the first to cross the line of the intermediate sprint at the bottom. 5min29 is the gap to the pack.
After the sprint Barguil, who is still in front of the pack, reaches Sarmiento.
With 60kms to go we have the following situation:
Stetina, Geniez, Birt -2min45-> Barguil, Sarmiento -1min28-> Pack
A new attack is now launched from the pack, with 57kms to go, still on the Col de Morgins. Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2), Cameron Meyer (OGE), Giampaolo Caruso (KAT) and Javier Moreno (MOV) break away.
Sky decides to seriously increase the pace in the pack.
Further up front a new situation occurs, as Barguil and Sarmiento reach the 3 leaders.
Sarmiento however has wasted energy and gets dropped quickly.
Birt wins the mountain sprint.
In the back, some riders are dropped. Among them is points jersey Fabian Cancellara (RLT).
With the pack on the top we have the following situation:
4 leaders -0min32-> Sarmiento -1min04-> Group Meyer -1min47-> Pack
On the flat, Sarmiento rejoins the leaders.
At the foot of the final climb and the second ascent of the Col de la Croix, we have:
5 leaders -1min42-> Group Meyer -15sec-> Pack
On the climb the 4 pursuit riders show character. Caruso leaves the 3 others behind though.
With 25kms to go the 4 are reeled in though.
In front, Sarmiento gets dropped for the third time.
With 23kms to go, Moreno attacks again!
He quickly reaches Sarmiento.
A bit later the first of the big guns goes: Bauke Mollema (BEL) has no difficulty catching Moreno and Sarmiento.
Alberto Contador (TST) is the next to attack. Sarmiento drops back to the pack.
With 20kms to go Contador and Mollema go again. Moreno has to drop back to the pack.
Meanwhile in front the break splits up: Birt has dropped the others.
With 19kms to go everyone but Birt is caught.
The hard pace has caused some to drop. Nicholas Roche (TST) seems the main victim.
10kms from the top we have the following situation:
Birt -24s-> Pack -1min32-> Group Roche
A new attack in the pack. Wilco Kelderman (BEL) gets followed by Contador, Barguil, Riche Porte (SKY) and Franco Pellizotti (AND).
Mollema also makes the jump.
They manage to reach Birt.
7 riders go in the chase: Ryder Hesjedal (GRS), Daniel Moreno (KAT), Jakob Fuglsang (AST), Jordan Lewis (BMC), Kim Po-Ding (EUC), Tanel Kangert (AST) and Cameron Meyer (OGE).
When the 7 leaders reach the final steep part of the climb, we have the following situation:
7 leaders -43sec-> 7 chasers -43sec-> Pack -1min11-> Roche
The pack refuses to resign and Euskaltel increase the pace.
Just over 2kms from the top Barguil and Birt are dropped by the 5 leaders.
Mollema, Kelderman and Pellizotti follow soon after.
The still intact chasing group catches Birt and Barguil 1.8kms from the top.
1km from the top we have Porte and Contador gaining.
From the small pack we have 4 riders who get away: Samuel Sánchez (EUS), Tejay van Garderen (BMC), Sergio Henao (SKY) and Johan Tschopp (IAM).
The pack itself isn't too big though. 14 riders are left.
At the top we have the following situation:
Porte, Contador -1min02-> Mollema, Kelderman, Pellizotti -28sec-> 9 chasers -46sec-> Group Van Garderen -36sec-> Pack -1min53-> Group Roche.
Mollema, Kelderman and Pellizotti are picked up by the group of 9 chasers.
Barguil and Birt are dropped there though.
Meyer and Kim have passed them and are now after the chasers.
In front, Porte is trying to get rid of Contador.
Hesjedal takes the lead in the second group, which is closing in on Contador and Porte.
With 2kms to go Porte and Contador are still leading by 40 seconds.
Further behind Sanchez is trying to come to the second group.
Under the banner Porte seems to lead out Contador.
The second group starts sprinting as well.
With 500 meters to go the two leaders are next to each other.
At the line
Contador has done it though. He wins the queen stage.
Hesjedal comes 3rd, Lewis 4th, Kelderman 5th, Kangert 6th, Mollema 7th, Fuglsang 8th and Moreno 9th.
After an incredible downhill Sanchez completes the top-10.
With Kristoff and Ciolek both claiming a win a piece already today is the turn of the red hot favourite, Andre Greipel, to win a stage. The final 40 meters average around 7% but given the speed the sprinters will reach this only the quick men will contest the finish.
Dermot Walker on the attack.
Team NetApp - Endura, the only German team here, have yet to light up this race. Young Brit, Dermot Walker, tried to change this by being one of the first to attack on the stage.
It took a while for the break to establish but when it did Dermot Walker was there, he was joined by 7 other riders to make the break of the day. The rest of the break: Pauriol, Walker, Mironov, W Kreder, A Cardoso, Cammaerts and the Chinese champ, Xu.
Finetto on the rampage.
Mauro Finetto makes his second breakaway and, today, he looks a cut above the rest. He would take the only KOM points on offer, uncontested, to draw level with Pedrovski.
KOM results
Spoiler
With 169KM to go:
Finetto 10 points
Cardoso 8 points
Kreder 6 points
Cammaerts 4 points
Walker 2 points
Finetto was making no friends today. He would take all 3 of the intermediate sprints.
Xu and Kreder seem to recognise someone at the side of the road! The break had a relaxed connation to it, and why not, given their chance of being allowed to slip away to the finish was minimal at best.
Richard Löwenherz: King of the Domestiques!
Katusha and Lotto were the dominant teams controlling the peloton for the second day running. Although we are just 3 stages into the race, it will take something special for a domestique to out perform the young Austrian Richard Löwenherz. No one can say they have ridden on the front of the peloton more so.
Late Attacks!
With the break caught with 13 KM to go we have our first late attacks out of the peloton in the whole race. Irish Champ Matt Brammeier, who was predicted to put in such an attack in the race preview, and Geoff Lequatre (Bretagne) were the antagonists. Despite this gutsy move they were soon caught with 10 KM to go.
The mass ranks of MTN - Qhubeka lead the race coming into the finale.
Germans continue to perform well in their home race.
Andreas Stauff gives the perfect leadout to Gerald Ciolek today. For the first time Andre Greipel doesn't launch his final sprint first, instead he is poised on the wheel of the yellow jersey.
Greipel ..... powers around Ciolek..........
Greipel celebrates a sprint win ... at last!
Andre Greipel takes an empathic win today, winning by three bike lengths over Gerald Ciolek, who retains the race lead. This is exactly result we expected before the race begin. A dominant showing by Greipel means the three 'big' sprinters here have now won a stage.
MTN - Qhubeka were perhaps over confident, doing all of the work in the last 10 kilometres. Nevertheless, they can be content on a 2nd place and the fact Ciolek enters the TT in the race lead.
