BikeRoel - There is one more hilly stage, so maybe Slagter can score there Hope Stijn won't lose time there!
sutty68 - Sure is! He's in great early shape!
cunego59 - Thanks a lot
Ollfardh - No, no... Just... No! Well, actually, when thinking out A Tale of Two, I was thinking: how could I explain 2 guys blogging together? Being brothers, friends or the other thing?
Anyway, it's all up to you for the interpretation |

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 3
A third stage here. I'm fully going for the win today, there ain't no sense in trying, just do it! I've learned that Cavendish and Greipel are not in a very good form, so I'll try to use that.
Maaskant picked up some nice mountain points in the breakaway today.
In the final corner, things almost went bad when a Cofidis rider took a fall!
And then Greipel and Cavendish started their sprints. Way too early, if you'd ask me, but I followed!
I saw Cavendish dying, coming from way too far. That was my sign, he was the perfect lead-out for me here! But don't tell him that, he might get angry at me.
And what a beautiful victory to start my season! With the perfect launch, no one was able to bring me back! I win with several lengths. Amazing!
My good form is hereby officially confirmed! I love Australia already.

However, this jersey doesn't change anything. I assured Slagter I will still work for him on Willunga Hill. He's the man for the GC here, I'm here for a stage, or maybe two?!
We'll see you tomorrow,
Stijn |

Good luck with rest of TDU.

dienblad - Is there something else out there? Thanks
BikeRoel - Sure is a great start! Now let's hope Slagter makes it complete
sutty68 - I think he may be able to win TDU one day, the two hilly stages shouldn't be out of his league, I think..
PCM rulezz - Thanks!
Mordekaiser - I'd have to check that. Probably there are some, but you'll see them as they appear in the story I think Wiggins has left Astana and Cancellara went to BMC.
SSJ2Luigi - Only 5 pages? I'm weakening!
Jakstar22 - Me neither! Thanks!
Today there's a meeting of some sorts, so I'll try to do 1 - 2 race(s) before that! Need to eat first, though |

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 4
Another stage for the sprinters. I would be wearing the leader's jersey here!
This Tour Down Under is tainted by falls. So far we've all been spared of those, but many haven't.
We set up quite an impressive lead-out for the sprint. I just had to finish it off!
I fought an intense battle against Démare for the win.
I saw that he cracked! But out of his ashes, a new phoenix arose: Haussler had used his slipstream and came with an amazing final jump! I finished 2nd.
I apologized to the team because I felt bad. They set up an amazing train and I didn't finish the work...
Result

There was one more chance for me, and that's the final stage in 2 days.
Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 5
Here we are. For years this has been the highlight of the Tour Down Under: a visit to the Old Willunga Hill.
The peloton moved quite slowly all day.
Unfortunately, we moved too slow. We were inattentive and suddenly hard facts struck us: with 46 km left to go, the breakaway held over 10 minutes!
From then on, it was full speed ahead, every rider of our team emptied himself for several kilometers. I was the last, I bridged the entire section between the final downhill to the foot of the final ascend of Willunga Hill.
If I had any hopes left to survive on Willunga Hill, this effort destroyed it all. But it was my job today, and I did it. When they started the climb, Slagter was only a little over a minute away from the breakaway, a gap he would be able to bridge. I did my job today.
A second hilly stage, a second one for Andy Schleck. He's showing excellent form!
This was a tough stage. We weren't 100% focused and it almost cost us big time.
Result
1 | Andy Schleck | Radioshack Nissan Trek | 3h41'07 | | 2 | Damien Gaudin | Team Europcar | + 23 | | 3 | Cédric Pineau | FDJ-BigMat | s.t. | | 4 | Marcus Burghardt | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 5 | Alejandro Valverde | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 6 | Kris Boeckmans | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | | 7 | Bram Tankink | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | | 8 | Tom Jelte Slagter | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 9 | Rein Taaramae | Cofidis, Le Crédit en Ligne | s.t. | | 10 | Santiago Gutiérrez | Bango - Fostina | + 1'01 | | (...) | 33 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | + 2'00 | IanButler |
General Classification
1 | Rein Taaramae | Cofidis, Le Crédit en Ligne | 17h23'37 | | 2 | Tom Jelte Slagter | Team Argos-Shimano | + 6 | IanButler | 3 | Gianluca Brambilla | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 44 | | 4 | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 5 | Rosalbino Cau | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 1'05 | | 6 | Matti Breschel | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | | 7 | Fabian Cancellara | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 8 | Alejandro Valverde | Astana Pro Team | + 1'21 | | 9 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | + 1'27 | IanButler | 10 | Daniel Oss | Astana Pro Team | + 1'43 | |
Well, I must say I'm surprised and happy to see I'm still in the top 10. With only a criterium left, that should be secured! Slagter is only 6 seconds off the win. Write it down for tomorrow: he will fight for every boni second there is!
One more stage, until tomorrow!
Stijn |

Come on Slagter you can win 6 boni seconds with helper like Stijn Van Gent!
btw: I wanted to ask ( if it's not too personal) is that a name of some one you know? is it you? or is it just a creation of your fantasy?
I'm just curious |
