Vuelta a España
Stage 10: Benabarra – Coll de la Botella
A very ugly mountain stage. Someone will surely lose the Vuelta today…
There’s a good few mountain points early on the stage today so Nicki goes out along with Haussler, Tsatsevich and Rossi. That’s 22 points in on the account and Nicki is in the lead of the mountain classifications.
When crossing Collado del Cantò with 71 km to go the break has 6’30’’ to the peloton.
Realizing that the break has ext to no chance of lasting I told Nicki to just slowly fall back to the peloton after the second climb. He will need the energy later on…
Already with 16 km to go Antón decides to attack!
Instead of following the attacking frenzy I sent Cort and Ipsen to the front and they actually managed to slowly reel in Antón and the other attackers without Chris using any energy! Going into the last 8 km only Roche is still out front and he only has 35 seconds on the favourites group.
Going under the 5 km mark Chris is hanging on at the back of a five-rider group with Rodríguez, Vanendert, Roche and Antón.
Antón haven’t been named the favourite for nothing!
Neither Purito nor Vanendert wanted to help Chris minimizing the gap to Roche and Antón so in the end they had a bit more energy for the sprint.
Well done wheelsuckers, I hope you’re proud!
Surprisingly Willy even has energy left for a top 10 finish after his hard work earlier on the stage!

Stage 11: Andorra La Vella – Pici de Cerler
Another day with plenty of mountains...
This is one of those days you have to be careful when chasing the mountain jersey. It’s hard as hell, but actually contains fewer points than some of the on paper easier stages, that are coming up.
So we keep Nicki back today and instead Palomares gets in the break as we mistook him for Martinez when he attacked and only realize our mistake when it is too late to easily reel them back in.. That puts the Spaniard back in dots after the first climb.
Palomares gets the next climb as well, but we have almost reeled the break back in by now.
On the next hill a new break is off and once again Palomares is in there looking sharp. Guess we are better off letting him burn of some steam today and then have our vengeance tomorrow…
Going in to the lst 15 km Antón is alone between the break and the peloton after having decided on an early attack again.
Once again we go for slowly reeling him back in and once again we succeed. Last 5,5 km and 16 riders are united in front.
Chris manages to shake of most of the other favourites…
But Antón continues to be one level above everyone else!

Anton wil probably win this. I think it'll be an exciting battle for 2nd place, though! |

Ian: He is by far the strongest climber on paper, so anything but a victory to Antón would be highly surprising. The battle for the rest of the podium looks very close in deed though!
sutty: He is, albeit in a weak GT-field. This kind of riding is probably what most Danes have been hoping/expecting him to do at some point

CAS is doing great, probably his only chance to get a GT-podium.
And Anton..... I think he'll keep on attacking in every hilly or mounatin stage, and most of the time ridiculously early in the final climb. PCM logic, nothing you can do about it.

dieblad: In deed. This is one of the GT's with the fewest top-climbers I haver ever seen, so we have to do our best to make the most of it
PCM rulezz: And I can promise you this is just the result pf hard work and a lack of top-class competition...
Jakstar: Lets hope so. As for stats he is 78/78 Mo/Hi. Only rider with better mountain stats are Antón, but a few riders have better hill stats. I can't make a screenshot of his stats as I have had some technical troubles this last day and am only just reinstalling/downloading everything again (I have salvaged everything for the story)

Final decision in Contador-case: Not Guilty!
On a press conference earlier today WADA acknowledged that viral vectors are commonly used for DNA-modifications - even in living animals.
As such they have been unable to prove Contador's explanation wrong (and thus indirectly deeming it more plausible than the steak-story) and have been unable to find anything in the current doping-regulations allowing them to convict the Spaniard.
Thus Contador and Team Saxo - Tinkoff will be allowed to keep the points earned throughout the season.
Persona Non Grata??
UCI have decided not to accept the decision, but it appears that might not be the end of it...
Pat McQuaid have said that they will be enforcing the ethical codex much harder toeards the upcoming season. That much is public, but relieable souces say that McQuaid even have let all teams know that any team signing Contador will not be able to take part in WT-races, .HC or .1 races in the next 5 years.
This story is further fuelled by recent sightings of Bjarne Riis meeting with Vincenzo Nibali on several occasions the last few weeks...
When confronted with the rumours Contador threatened (as he did in 2010, red) to end his career if UCI maintain their desision, and said that he wasn't planning on racing anymore in 2014 anyway!

Ian: Well if changes were to be made in the genome viral vectors would be the way to go. Guess not guilty and innocent arent alway synonyms
dienblad: Exactly: "not guilty"...

Vuelta a España
Stage 12: Ordizia – Jaizkibel
Might not be the most desisive break in terms of the GC, but there’s a lot of mountain points and Jaizkibel in the end is a tough climb, where the hilly riders could take some time on Chris!
Things to just as planned early on and Nicki gets the first 10 points easily.
Same story on the following climbs and after three hilltops Nicki is back in dots.
Four hilltops and the max of 28 points. The break holds a gap of 4’10’’ to the peloton with Ferrari caught halfway in between.
Another hilltop and another win for Nicki. The break has now been joined by Gasparotto from behind and holds just over 6 minutes with 94 km to go.
With 31 km to go what remains of the peloton is closing in on the break fast and Nicki is starting to look very tired.
With 7 km to the finish line things are starting to look bad for the break as the favourites are approaching fast.
As usual Igor attacks early and as usual he is reeled back in. Hopefully he will be very tired in the last week with this kind of riding.
Vanendert completely destroys the competition with his attack and Chris hits the wall trying to follow.
These short steep climbs aren’t really his favourite kind of finishes…
Purito almost gets past him, but the Belgian holds on to take the stage.

Stage 13: Gexto - Ribadesella
Today does unmistakingly look like another breakaway stage. We will try to get one of the “smaller” riders in there to help the break last over the hills and neutralize the KOM’s.
Kjell Carlström is the man, who gets in there. They get a good gap, but Kjell isn’t getting any younger and it’s showing over the first climb, where he only just manage to hang on.
Going into the last 100 km the break has 10 minutes, but Kjell is not looking like someone who feels like riding another 100 kms…
50 km left. The break decided that they didn’t want the Finnish veteran on board anymore and attacked in turns until they got rid of him. Looks like a certain win for the break with Rossi being the big favourite in a sprint.
Kjell is now hanging in between trying not to use too much energy.
With 30 km to go the break takes another ound in their elimination race this time getting rid of Sobal.
Next to be eliminated: Egoi Martinez.
Rudaskov tries the early attack to get rid of the sprinters. He only gets rid of Ortega.
Final sprint between Rudaskov, Trentin and Rossi[/b
[b]Trentin had the most energy left in the end.
Chris makes a good move to win the peloton’s sprint for 7th, but nothing important happens among the favourites.
Stage Results
1 | Matteo Trentin | Omega Pharma – QuickStep | 2 | Enrico Rossi | ISD – Ferrari | 3 | Sergey Rudaskov | Team Gazprom | 4 | Dídac Ortega | Caja Rural | 5 | Egoi Martinez | Andalucía |
Spoiler 6 | Yaheni Sobal | RafioShack – Nissan | 7 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Volvo – STARK | 8 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Garmin – Sharp | 9 | Igor Antón | Euskaltel - Euskadi |

PCM rulezz: Well at least the time lost was to better hilly riders, so no shame in that. Of couse it's Matteo was just a little tired in my head after having quite a battle with my computer today. At least it ended up agreeing that I could have the report and it would start behaving again
