EPIC - Season 1 Part 3
Ollfardh
Great report! Sorry to see you retire. We'll have to find a way to fix that Wink

Well, we get a few points over BMC again, all the little bits help. Any idea what happened to Cristobal Riquelme though?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

That's what I expected, Rajesh! Banana A podium is a pretty good way to prove your strength again after that little fail before.

Now in that shape we might show the Japanese how things should be run in the Eastern world Wink

Another good ride by Schröder. He consistently proves that he is ready for the biggest races!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Good report, hope you'll make more reports in the future, because this one was just perfect Smile

Good to see Sagan finally win again. Smile

Viviani did well to get 7th. Moser in 13th is good too. But Basso in the first group, that can't be right. Shock

Yesterday also part of the early moves Pierpaolo De Negri attacks out of the peloton to take the only mountain sprint today ahead of his fellow countrymen De Marchi of Cannondale.

The three cyclists that scored at the mountain sprint are joined by Nishizono, Gutiérrez and Quintero to form today's break. That teams like Champion Systems and Movistar are involved is evidence for a less challenging finish than the days before. Their leaders Kakhi and Valverde respectively might can take an offday today and purer sprinters will fight it out today.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0403_zps69c1f96b.jpg

Nishizono and De Marchi are the only ones interested in the bonus seconds at the intermediate sprints and so they are the ones that take the two first spots on the intermediates today.

Meanwhile one of today's favourites Gregory Henderson has punctured. Lotto has sent three men behind to help the Kiwi back into the peloton. Ultimately they fail, with Argos and Androni upping the pace drastically after reaching the bumpy final 60 kilometres. The break is still 2 minutes ahead.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0405_zpsd49f46fb.jpg

Soon later Icelandic champ Johan Nokkvason also punctures. He is one of Rolland's most important domestiques here, but could have hoped for a decent GC himself. After today that won't be happening.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0406_zps4e724671.jpg

On the hills the break is torn into pieces, but all are soon caught, with the two Italians De Negri and De Marchi being the last ones up the road.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0407_zps03960e9a.jpg

The hills didn't really make any of the sprinters struggle and so all the big names, except for Henderson, take the downhill into Santo Domingo together. We see trains for Euskaltel, Argos and Europcar forming.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0408_zps98016f41.jpg

In the end it's again the Argos train being best placed, with Degenkolb seeking for win number 4. Leigh Howard has gathered his backwheel. Asian duo Arashiro and Khamse Khampan leadout Coquard, his wheel taken by Gatto and Kruopis. Lobato only has one man ahead of him left. Rajesh Kakhi, today in white, Robert, Lotto's emergency plan, Lasca and Pellizotti are behind him.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0409_zpseac1145f.jpg

With a weird maneuver, moving towards the Euskaltel train, Europcar took out their chances as well as the ones of the Basque team, meaning Degenkolb's last competitor is his teammate Sinkeldam under the red kite.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0410_zps629033da.jpg

The big gap means Degenkolb can start celebrating early. Lobato wins the sprint for second behind ahead of Coquard who made a strong comeback. Valverde just misses the podium on a stage that shouldn't have suited him very well. Fifth goes to Kakhi, sixth Ratto. Surprising seventh is Castroviejo. Hofland, Pellizotti and Arashiro complete the top 10.
The bonus seconds of winning four stages means that Degenkolb is more than 1 minute ahead of any GC favourite and considering that he isn't the worst of the climbers among the sprinters, he has a shot at a decent overall result in this race.

I won't be able to post the last stage before the next weekend so if someone with PCM13 is very eager that this race is ended soon then you can ask me for the cdb file and play the last stage. Wink

That moment when you have literally no idea how the first three stages went. Grin
And then more and more stuff is mentioned and you begin to remember things just as when you are thinking about what happened at night when you're hang over. Pfft

This is one of the flattest stages of the entire season.

V.Feunard and Hägg were among the early attackers. None of them made the final break though as that consisted of Van Goolen (AJW), Waeytens (TSV) and Clancy (TNN).

Not good enough, Calzone. But great, great 8th place by 18 year old Walker. Smile

Good job by Mario, coming 3rd and hanging on to the GC lead. He's really doing great here Grin

Kennedy coming in the top-10 and Sbaragli top-20 show he isn't even the only contender here though, my sprint train is incredibly strong here Grin
