dienblad: Yeah, for a moment there I really thought me might make it.

PCM rulezz: They are, but to be fair they do have the perhaps strongest climbing-team of all and this is they're most important race of the season. The most surprising is the lack of qualified competition.

Jakstar: He is, I will do my best to keep him on the podium!

Ian & krisa: In deed. I hate when this happens - in game as wells in real life Sad

sutty: Well it would have been bitter if it had been 1 km shorter Wink

mowinckel91: I will certainly do my best, but it is a long race with lots of mountain stages yet to come so it will not be easy.

Vuelta a España

Stage 8: Alicante – Valencia
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-81_zpsd21bf07e.jpg
The sprinters will be hoping to get this one, but will they get past the mountain in the middle?

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-82_zps2f09d27d.jpg
The stage really looks like a Bak-speciality, so we get him in the break, but when Egoi Martinez crosses the top of the hill as the first the break only has 4’40’’ to the peloton. It’s very doubtful that a lead that size will be sufficient.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-83_zpsfe7e8e16.jpg
Vodafone and Rabobank are leading the chase in the peloton. They’re not in a hurry though so with 80 km to go the gap has grown to 6 minutes.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-84_zps34eedd25.jpg
With 13 km to the line everything is set up for the sprinters. Our only job now is to not get caught behind a crash on the wet roads.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-85_zps086baba6.jpg
Right on the 3 km mark Sagan starts his leadout for Cavendish.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-86_zps0b74e5d9.jpg
A powerful leadout and with 1 km to go no one seems to be able to follow him.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-87_zpse1c163f0.jpg
But then Kittel rockets off and takes it in the last few meters. First WT-win of the season for the German.

Stage 9: Tarragona – Barcelona
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-90_zpsee17f88e.jpg
This should be a breakaway-stage. With two 10-point climbs early on we will try to get Nicki out there.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-91_zpsbda92cdb.jpg
There was no room for Nicki to get in a break early on, so instead we kept things closed over the first two hills allowing Nicki to step forward and take 20 points.
Hopefully that thought everyone a thing or two about forcing us to do it the hard way. 119 riders left in the peloton over the second climb.
There’s much better luck for breakaway riders after the intermediate sprint (which in no controversy was won by Chris giving him six potentially important seconds).
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-92_zps44e3978f.jpg
With 30 km to go Veikkanen, Riis, Cummings, Moser, Martinez and Siutsou has 6’30’’ to the peloton.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-93_zpsa7655235.jpg
The sprint is this group is completely unpredictable, so with 20 km to go everyone starts attacking. Jussi and Thomas do their best to follow the attacks, but still Siutsou manage to create a small gap with 15 km to go.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-94_zps1e86d353.jpg
Thanks to a massive effort by Riis he is reeled back in with 5 km to go.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-95_zps06ea6a8f.jpg
Moser opens the sprint early.

Cummings goes in front with 1,5 km to go. Jussi and Thomas right in his wheel.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-97_zps4e0809d7.jpg
Both my guys gave it everything they had, but Cummings was just too strong today.

Sagan leading out Cav? WTF? And 2-3, not bad.

mowinckel91
Nice riding bro Smile

Again a missed win for Veikkanen, too bad. And Anton 5th in a mass sprint..... CYA logic.

2 and 3 Frown

C. A. doing good, though!

Atlantius
Miguel98: Well at the Tour de France it was Sagan-EBH-Cavendish...

mowinckel: Thanks Smile

dienblad: Yeah, he seems to always just lack that little bit of energy in the finish Frown
I think Antón taking part of the sprint is due to him leading the points classification.

Ian: He does and at least the break gave us quite a boost in the team classification, which suddenly seems like something we might aim at as well...

That was close for Veikkanen

First rest day in the Vuelta, so lets have a look at what has happened elsewhere while we have been racing in Spain.

Vattenfall Cyclassics

Surprisingly the early break managed to hold the peloton at bay so that Tosh Van der Sande could take his biggest career-win this far.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-19-Vattenfall_zpsa9dfc426.jpg
In the chaotic finish my riders put their money on the wrong horses and ended up far down in the classifications.

Post Danmark Rundt

This is the only continental race we have a wish to outright control. Therefore we have brought both Gustav Larsson and last years winner Lasse Bøchman along with a fit team of helpers.

Right from stage 1 it became obvious that our status in the peloton ensured that breaks containing one of my guys would be reeled in immediately and breaks without any of my guys would not be chased by any other teams than ours.

So we had two chances to make any significant time difference. The stage to Vejle finishing on top of the steep Kiddesvej and the TT.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-20-PostDK-3_zps4a192735.jpg
Lasse repeated his brilliant win in Vejle from last year. But this time even more beautiful in his NC-jersey! This really good the crowd going.

Before the TT two riders were within a second of Bøchman in the lead. Fortunately they were no match for Lasse on the TT, which he wins in same time as Gustav Larsson.

I guess a 1-2 in the GC lives up to our target of dominating this race…

GP Ouest France – Plouay

Probably the race in the calendar that we care the least about. We sent our hilly classics talent Brian Matzen as the only rider in shape, so he was the closest thing to a captain on the roster.

Brian had a brilliant day, being right next to the favourites when things were decided.
Well that is when the battle for 2nd were decided because the German veteran Jens Voigt managed to make a breakaway last and took the win right in front of Valverde and Slagter.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-21-Plouay_zps3fc18721.jpg
Brians 11th place here sure does give great promise for the future.

After the race it was announced that the race will be one of the races degraded to 1.HC race next season.

Great result for Lasse, nice jersey he has Wink
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

A 1 - 2 and Voigt winning, great result for me Grin

Miguel: He sure shows how to wear a NC-jersey...

PCM rulezz: In deed. The jersey (as the others) are the work of jakstar22

Ian: I was cheering for Voigt to last as well. 43 years is no age for a rider of his class Grin
