This is getting very, very serious. Luckily, I am in mountains part of country and it's still not that serious over here, but few manhole's already "exploded" because of water and it's looking like it's going to start over here soon. I am praying that it won't.
Around 10 deaths and huge number of missing persons at the moment. Horrible, just horrible. The goverment already declared the state of the emergency and it's so chaotic. Few thousands of men are now in city of Sabac, which is the main chemical industry city over here. They're trying to prevent huge disaster which would happen if flood hits the main buildings of that whole chemistry complex. The Serbia would lose any kind of drinking water for at least few months. Serbian budget can't afford all of these losses, but the lifes and the health are way more important at the moment, I guess.

Thanks everyone. Luckily, nothing more serious than 20 cm's here (in uninhabited area and surrounded villages near my town) in my town and the damage isn't too big (compared to some cities on West and North of Serbia), really.
Generally, it's finally starting to give ground a bit. Level of big rivers that flooded some cities is a bit lower and with many sunny days coming, this tragedy is hopefully going to end. However, the real fight starts from this moment. It's going to be hot as hell and the dirty, bacteries, animal corpses will be big opponent. At the moment, around ~30 people dead by the "official news", but everyone here knows that that number is piece of shit and the loses are much, much worse. More than 100 people surely dead and the number is only going to raise.
I was on terrain, helping the people for one day and it's a huge, huge chaos and mess. I just wish something like this never, ever happens to anyone. Water is basically over the 2nd floor. You can literally take out the people from balcons on 3rd floor. What was the problem is that new mayor of Serbian capital city - Belgrade, Sinisa Mali in his speech told that people shouldn't leave their houses. Sadly, most of these people aren't with us anymore.
I am angry and sad in the same moment that western media's aren't covering this too much. Two Norwegian reports were shocked by what they've seen here after they arrived. BBC put the news into "Africa". Bullcrap.
Here's the video that describes the situation best. Cities (Obranovac, Sabac, Sremska Mitrovica) with more than few hundred thousands of people almost disappeared from map and turned into a swamp. Sad.
Best wishes goes to you and Serbia.
I know the guy, that arranges everything that goes to aid to Serbia in my country, he's serbian and is working night and day to get things over to Serbia. Amazing. This just proves that, no matter where in this world you are, you help your friends and nation through fire and water.
Again, my best wishes go to Serbia.
You nailed it, animal corpses are a pain in the ass after a flood. Remember a few snakes here and there when a hurricane came ~6 years ago, I was quite young then and quite scared
I wouldn't say western media isn't covering it. Just a bit delayed

Czech TV is covering what is going on in Serbia for at least a week now Admir, even some firefighters and rescue groups were send to serbia to help your people.
When you think about it, much more people die every day because of other bad things and these are not covered at all, dont even mentioning floods in Asia that kill thousands and thousands of people every year. But i hope rescue works will go how they should and Serbia will be on its feet quickly.
Yup, Rogvi. Diaspora is really connected to Serbia and they're helping alot. Also, you would not believe how fast we (people that didn't get hit by floods) gathered money for threatened. I honestly think that, even despite argues, wars and alot of shit in past few decades, Balkanians are most united people when it comes to bad things like this one.
Not to even talk about stink after it, Code. I am afraid of some serious epidemic disease's after people start getting back to their homes.
I know Avin, thanks for that. It's really interesting and good to see how many foreign countries are donating money/rescue people to Serbia last couple of days. Will skip Russia part, as Serbians & Russians were always "brothers" so the biggest help was expected from them. I was surprised by Czech help, help from Italy, Poland, Norway... Gives me some kind of hope, really.

Not sure how I feel about this, we are the last state in the North East to finally go through with it.
Navy blue means it is allowed
all the others just explain why it isn't allowed.
Our country, considered as one of the most free countries in the world (Faroe Islands in Scandinavia) doesn't allow it yet... And yes, I'm ready to discuss that Scandinavian countries and f.e. Canada are more free than USA...

Gay rights, especially when it comes to marriage, is one of those areas where you suddenly realise just how backwards certain parts of the world are. I'm not talking about any specific country, but that map is a sad one.

In any other issue, we tout that we have freedom of this, that etc
Yet on this issue, the argument is that we were founded on Christian principles and thus should obey by them....this is no better than Islamic law

I could almost, almost, understand the non-religious arguements such as how it would "ruin the sanctity of married or create unstable homes for children, if it weren't for celebrity weddings and single parents.
Marriage is supposed to be for those who can procreate? Fine, no marriage for infertile people. And don't forget forced divorce when people pass, say, 50 years.
A child should have a mother and a father? Yes, that's why there is no such thing as single parents and if one parent dies, the child is automaticly placed in a foster home.
Bible-thumping, half-brained, ignorant dimwits.

Marriage is at the first place act to establish a good place to baby being born and i wonder how two men could do that, but why not give them a chance to enter some sort of partnership, that is really silly. I am not so opened to gay adoptions, but that is another topic.
Also what surprises you on Americans? They are like that, democracy is just an illusion, especially when there is no other state to be controlled so much by media and secret services....

"Hey Sally, my name is Bob, this is my dad Patrickk and this is um my other dad john" Is that not a wee bit awkward for children who are sure to be bullied by others.

In a tolerant country bullying should't create a problem. Here in the Netherlands we aren't that far yet, but compared to other countries we are very tolerant here.
