So, the Mayans were off by about a year and a half then?
Still, impressive. They easily beat Jehovah's Witnesses

So, 1½ year ago I was at a stag party with my brother-in-law. For whatever reason, I said I would easily destroy him if we went to France and climbed Mont Ventoux. The challenge was accepted, and we've tried to find a proper date since then. We finally sorted it out, and we're going on the 1st of June (although not to Ventoux, but to the Alp d'Huez area instead).
The only problem? He has been up several other mountains before. Me? Never. And I'm playing American football. Not really the kind of guy who should sit on a bike and try to get up tough mountains. I don't even own a race bike. If I remember well, you an borrow bikes in Bourg d'Oisans, but of course it's better to have your own (you're used to the position, it's your size, etc.).
First time I climbed it, well, I had started cycling again a couple of months earlier, it was my first time in the mountains, we had climbed Les Deux Alpes in the morning. There was a cold wind up there. One of my toughest moments on a bike. 1h32 or something from the bridge at the start of the climb to the official TDF finish line. One year later it'd have been like 30 or 35 minutes less (and 5 or 7 years earlier it'd have been something around 45 or 50 minutes).
Good luck with that if you're not even a cyclist. |

I am probably going to rent a bike, but I'm also looking into the possibility of buying one. As most people interested in cycling, I always get interested in buying one during the Tour de France until I convince myself that it's smarter to wait a couple of months until the 2010 bikes go on sale.
By then, it's cold and the interest is gone
Any ideas for a bike for beginners? |

400-500 € should be a reasonable price, lower than that you'll get a crappy bike, no automatic clips, etc. Above might not be necessary. Then it's mostly a matter of tastes, and how you feel while sitting on the bike. |

If you want to buy a new race bike, you aint getting anywhere with 500€ in Denmark (of course in Danish currency ).
If you just want a bike - nothing fancy - I'd say a Trek Bike. It's probably the best starter bike out there.
But if it has to be better than that go check out Canyon's website. They're having a very appealing Roadlite series. |

So, has the Nigerian scam moved to Isle of Man? Got a call from (+44)19 28 70 63 00 today. I didn't bother answering the call, but I can see that other people have received calls from that number too (https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.as...1928706300). |

The Trek 1.5 is a great starting bike. Retails for about $1100 US dollars here. |

Just one call? You're lucky. Movistar's South American semi-slaves have been torturing me lately, with 2/3 calls per day. God, how I hate that company. |

"3 degrees and windy. Feels like 1"
This. Is. Not. Normal.
Note to self: don't come to work in a shirt.

It's -2 degrees here. It's been a while since the last time I had seen the "-" sign in my thermometer.
And I'm sure Chuck Norris wouldn't want to be the president of Portugal. It'd create a conflict of interests with being god, as much as someone shouldn't be president of the UCI with his son being a cyclists' agent. Ouch! |

Well. 4°C here but also a feeling of "-" with all the heavy wind.
Doesn`t happy to often that in the North of Germany it`s warmer than in Spain or Portugal. |

Doesn't happen often that it is warmer in Greenland than in Spain and Portugal.

I write a exam on Thursday with a simple program using C+ and I will fail
Don`t even think about using harder programming languages. |
