The DSC anthem has become somewhat of a tradition in the Daily Song Contest ever since the 6th edition in Mogadishu when Swede Molly Sandén released her song 'Youniverse'. For this season Erlend Bratland follows in her footsteps and becomes the artist of the DSC anthem for the 9th edition titled 'Thunderstruck'. Erlend's own story is a testament of the contest's theme 'Our Roots', as he himself is of Egyptian decent with his mother being Egyptian. His song 'Thunderstruck' follows his change and journey he went through to becoming the person he is today. Erlend said this: 'there is one line in particular that comes to mind when I think of the theme 'Our Roots', 'it's a mystery how we create our own history', this really is unknown and I wanted to really refer to that in the song, we have to just be ourselves'. Erlend will open the second semi-final in Athens as per usual with the DSC anthem, for the first time there will be a live orchestra to accompany Erlend with his number, however that won't be the only thing accompanying him: 'I have a very special surprise for the DSC fans in the performance. There will be some familiar faces for sure, that's all I will say for the moment'.
