I wasn't expecting Bayern to start so soon but I don't mind. Hoping for a strong TT for Birtles. He can definitely get a top 5 here.

Dunkerque: Stage 5

163km of flat racing. Two cat. 4 hills on the first kms but then completely flat. Everyone who does not bets on a bunch sprint today should either go into a psychiatry or has as much money as Mark Cuban.

*** Roelandts (LTB), Coquard (EUC) ***
** Boasson Hagen (SKY); Verboven (EUS), Markus (VCD) **
* Kakhi (CSS), Petit (COF), McDermott (TST), Alinejad (RLT) *

Still inside the city of Dunkerque De Vreese (TSV) and Lequatre (BSE) start their attack.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0325_zpsf5fa88b6.png

They build today's BotD together with Chainel (ALM), Fouchard (COF), Amorison (CRE), Feillu (SOJ) and Proni (VIN). None of them is a threat for any jersey.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0327_zpsed4d6a1c.png

With 130km to go the maximum lead of 7'20'' is reached. From now on the peleton reduces second for second the gap until the last km's.

Unfortunatelly, we have to tell you that some crashes have to be reported:

McDermott

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0334_zps74930327.png

Rast

The peleton with Europcar and Sky at the front are chasing hard. Hard enough to reduce the peleton to only 56 riders. It seems as all important riders are in there.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0330_zps6e0ca61d.png

The peleton is controlled by the sprinter teams of Sky and Lotto. The main sprinters are all near the front.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0332_zpsdd46b415.png

The leadout trains are taking shape.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0335_zpsea518295.png

Vangenechten with a strong turn pulls Lotto Belisol to the front.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0336_zps6242a90e.png

What a great turn by the Belgian. Sithembile has no chance to equal his work. It seems like Markus is sitting on the right wheel.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0337_zpsa422158f.png

With just over two km to go the peleton reaches the BotD and the Lotto leadout seems to be blocked now. Sky leaded by Hayman moves ahead.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0339_zps58b7769e.png

The spectators are very surprised as they see that Roelandts is miles behind. Sky is looking strong today.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0340_zpse42ab90f.png

Boasson Hagen uses this last corner to surpasses Eisel on the inside.
But Roelandts is flying behind him.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0341_zps2fff4648.png

He is coming closer and closer. Can he celebrate again?

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0343_zpsc2b50892.png

No. But it was close as Roelandts showed again an impressive sprint. But he lost his sprint when he got caught behind with about 3 km to go.

Sorry for the delayed report. Had it raced on tuesday and then simply forgot to post the race. One can argue whether the stage was just to boring for me or perhaps i already have dementia. Who knows?

A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Another superb performance from the boys in red. At least Burghardt showed he deserves his contract.

Cheers Knockout.

Not bad from Chiarini in 15in in the final GC.
Nothing was expected here at all so at least it is something.

I enjoyed the whole race knockout. Wink Pretty happy with the KOM jersey for Rast, he deserved it.

@ Cycleman - What Giro problems?

Cycleman123
The one where only 22 teams show up in the race. Selwink edited it so the game would accept 23 (all teams + control team) but it doesn't work for some reason, neither on Selwink nor my game.

Race report

The early attacks are also present today. Peter Stetina (GRS) and Javier Moreno (MOV) are the first of today.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1089_zpsd83b7ad5.jpg

Emmanuele Sella (AND), Aleksandr Kolobnev (KAT) and Martin Elmiger (IAM) are trying to close the gap.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1090_zpsd977d9be.jpg

And so does Pierrick Fedrigo (FDJ).
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1091_zpsd08e0b24.jpg

When the 6 men come together the lead is already 4 minutes.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1092_zpscc00dadc.jpg

Eventually the pack decides to take responsibility. Sky, Belkin and BMC send some men up front.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1093_zps717c8d0c.jpg

On the way the riders face rain, which has just started now.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1094_zps3170d93e.jpg

The rain causes some trouble in the pack, where Thibaut Pinot crashes! Fortunately, he makes it back to the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1095_zps97a8adfe.jpg

In the pack, the pace is now upped. Martin Kohler (BMC) is the man who accelerates.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1096_zpse0f1fe96.jpg

At the top of the first mountain sprint, with 100kms to go and a lead of 4min58 to the pack, Fédrigo reaches the top.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1097_zps49d32ba5.jpg

Bad luck for Moreno. On the downhill he suffers from a puncture.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1098_zps0ba6751f.jpg

Moments later Fédrigo crashes!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1099_zps8de3892e.jpg

Moreno catches up with the 4 leaders on the climb.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1100_zps9e0ab4b2.jpg

At the summit Sella is the first to pass. The lead to the pack is just over 4 minutes.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1101_zpsac078d35.jpg

In the downhill Fédrigo also rejoins the break.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1102_zps98badb2d.jpg

At the intermediate sprint Sella wins again. Moreno and Fédrigo make it to second and third. The gap to the pack is now 2min59.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1103_zpse573fd50.jpg

The other intermediate sprint is won by Fédrigo. The gap here, with 50kms to go, is 2min20.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1104_zps39580b36.jpg

Surprising attack from the pack. Warren Barguil (ARG) gives it a go.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1105_zpsda240f8e.jpg

He gets reeled in quickly though.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1106_zps0c49a73d.jpg

No reason to give up: he tries again!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1107_zpsb84721b2.jpg

Meanwhile in front, Kolobnev wins the penultimate mountain sprint.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1108_zps17fdbd32.jpg

In the pack, we get some more attacks: Igor Antón (EUS) and Wout Poels (VCD) give it a go.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1109_zpscd149506.jpg

After being reeled together with Poels in Barguil crashes!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1110_zpsac6bd69b.jpg

Up front it's chaos. Kolobnev and Fédrigo attack, while Antón reaches the pursuit group.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1111_zps7a52a5c0.jpg

With 22kms to go this group is reeled in. The two leaders have 44 seconds left.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1112_zpsc10a1e0f.jpg

Romain Bardet (AG2) attacks! Antón jumps to his wheel.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1113_zps3b6beadb.jpg

With 19kms to go Bardet catches the two up front. Antón can't follow.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1114_zpsf985c065.jpg

With a threatening pack Bardet has no choice but to leave Kolobnev and Fédrigo behind.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1115_zpsb1382bc1.jpg

This proves to be a wise decision, as Kolobnev and Fédrigo are reeled in pretty much immediately.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1116_zps7ab5c3a4.jpg

At the final climb Bardet is reeled in by none other than Ryder Hesjedal (GRS), who gets Richie Porte (SKY) and Dani Moreno (KAT) in his wheel immediately.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1117_zps81b72883.jpg

Moreno now goes up and over and gets away with a strong acceleration.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1118_zpsc6ec435d.jpg

He reaches the top with a small gap to Hesjedal and Porte.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1119_zpse1a2010c.jpg

In the downhill, a big group is dropped. Main man: Thibaut Pinot, who crashed earlier on in the stage.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1120_zps9d874991.jpg

In front, Moreno still has a gap. Porte and Hesjedal are reeled in though. This is the sign for Pellizotti to attack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1121_zps81a80773.jpg

With 10kms left to ride Moreno still has 33 seconds lead.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1122_zpscac751cf.jpg

Pellizotti is reeled in though.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1123_zpsd1eb681a.jpg

In the back, another big group is dropped. Igor Antón is the main rider here.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1124_zps46df9375.jpg

In the pack, we only have 26 riders left now.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1125_zpsd70c9241.jpg

With 6kms to go a massive attack! Alberto Contador (TST) jumps away, with Bauke Mollema (BEL), Hesjedal, Porte and Fabian Cancellara (RNT) in his wheel.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1126_zps6eb5e38e.jpg

However, due to some hard work they are reeled in. Moreno still remains up front though
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1127_zpsfed078e5.jpg

With 3kms to go Moreno has a growing lead.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1128_zps5f39d647.jpg

In the pack, this is the sign for a sprint.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1129_zpsff9aec27.jpg

Moreno is caught under the banner! What an effort, especially by Cancellara, who has a dream position now.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1130_zpsd5504b41.jpg

Moments later, he passes Moreno.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1131_zps77fd2267.jpg

The battle for third is led by Samuel Sánchez (EUS)
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1132_zps6f26d646.jpg

At the finish
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1133_zps38dc2eb2.jpg
Spartacus takes a mighty victory! 2nd is Fuglsang, who came storming from behind. Sithembile takes third, Kangert is 4th, and Moreno has to settle for 5th. Fuglsang climbs to 4th in the GC.

Over a minute later, the biggest loser of the day crosses the line. Thibaut Pinot loses over a minute and can forget about his GC-dreams.
