They usually are, the AI usually target GC riders over sprinters. Maybe because they earn more points in general than sprinters do.

In the database there are 3 columns in DYN_team; fkIDtype_rider_orientation1; fkIDtype_rider_orientation2 and fkIDtype_rider_orientation3.
I'm guessing it's these that determine what kind of riders they will want to sign

Aleksandr Pliuschin
The Moldovan talent had been a key member of DFL for both seasons so far and last season saw a great achievement with 5th in the Giro, and winning Deutschland Tour and Vattenfalls Classics. 04/03 - Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne
07/03 - Le Samyn
11/03-18/03 - Paris-Nice (Peak 1)
Long rest period
04/08 - San Sebastien Classic
10/08-18/08 - Deutschland Tour
22/08-29/08 - Eneco Tour
01/09-23/09 - Vuelta a Espana (Peak 2)

Alberto Contador
The Spaniard Alberto Contador was incredible last year winning the Volta a Catalunya, Dauphine Libere and Tour de France and has this year set himself the ambitious target of victory in the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. He will be at his best in the Giro but will still be very strong for the Tour - it will be interesting to see whether he or Evans comes out as strongest in the race - and whether the fatigue will start to takes its toll towards the end of the tour. Here is his schedule:
09/04-14/04 - Vuelta al Pais Vasco
16/04-22/04 - Tour de Georgia
25/04 - Fleche Wallone
29/04 - Liege Bastogne Liege
12/05-03/06 - Giro d'Italia
29/06 - Spanish TT Champs
01/07 - Spanish RR Champs
07/07-29/07 - Tour de France
04/08 - San Sebastien Classic
14/08-18/08 - Vuelta a Burgos

Cadel Evans
Cadel feels this year is his best chance for Tour de France glory and his schedule is fully focused on the main event, while he will race elsewhere he has just one target and will not be looking to win anywhere other than in France in July. His build up to it is specifically geared towards the race as he will ride in Dauphine Libere to prepare for the french atmosphere and then in Eindhoven to prepare for the possibliy crucial 63km TTT found early on in the tour. His schedule is:
11/01 - Aussie TT Champs
14/01 - Aussie RR Champs
21/05-27/05 - Volta Ciclista a Catalunya
10/06-17/06 - Dauphine Libere
24/06 - Eindhoven TTT
27/06 - Profonde von Pryslan
04/07 - GP Gerrie Knetemann
07/07-29/07 - Tour de France
04/08-15/08 - Volta a Portugal

Just realised that you got 6th in the road champs with a completely unfit Evans and on extreme. Impressive non-the less. Especially having crashed.
