Wow, Ruben jumps in full force. I was stating the argument could be made, not that it had equal weight.
I know Froome has only beaten Mollema in 2 of the 20 mountain stages they have raced and both were this weekend.

This is absolutely pathetic guys!!
Everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Cobo rode brilliantly today and yesterday and looks like the strongest there. Absolutely no difference from Voeckler in the Tour IMO. Voeckler is not a climber on the same level as Schleck, Evans, Contador etc. but he hung on to them on the climbs because he was in good shape and was motivated.
Froome has been showing signs of improvement all year and while a podium is massively surprising, I think he was always a possibility for a top 15/20 because the field is always weaker in the Vuelta.
If anybody is doped it will come out in a few weeks. (Or in the UCI's case, sometime in 2014 probably) Stop arguing about who is doped and who isn't. It's stupid.

So, Froome, Cobo, Poels and Menchov all would have won up Alp du Huez this year on their W/kg scores.
Game over in my mind

Enough said

But seriously. Yes Froome has exceeded expectations (while Mollema has been a more noticeable upward curve), but Froome's past results have at least hinted at the possibility of going well in stage races at some point - despite illnesses of his own such as bilharzia this year.
And it goes without saying that at all levels of cycling, African cyclists have far less opportunity than Dutch cyclists to maximise their talents. Its only since he joined Sky that Froome has been on a comparable team/structure to Mollema, and he has now started to deliver.

Fuglsang doing very very good. Actually very impressed so far. He is very stabile. Losing time, yes. But its not like he is going down and losing a lot of time. Very good Vuelta from him so far!
Hope he can hold that 7th place, but not going to be easy. |

I'm thinking if Cobo wins the Vuelta, he'll go "Haters Gonna Hate".
I do not dislike Cobo at all, but I'd rather have Froome or Wiggins (now quite hard) to be crown the winner. |

That is very true. Monfort surprised me on the Angliru, really good performance.
EDIT: Also im surprised that Fuglsang is in such a good form. He was in good form at the TDF (i know he was crap, but that was not because of bad form). A week after the TDF he won in the Tour of Denmark, and then the Vuelta. He must be pretty tired after such a long time in good form.

Where are you guys actually gong with this argument? You're arguing about who is the most unlikely top 10 rider, but look at the result; within the top 10 there are only something like 2-3 riders who you actually expected to be there, the rest have come from (allmost) nowhere!
If someone are drugged it's usually been noticed a little while after the Vuelta. Wait and see if anyone get caught because at the moment this is a pointless discussion. |

I know he rode for the infamous Saunier Duval and was closely related to Piepoli and Ricco. But just out of curiosity, is their any more explicit link to doping like some other Spanish riders have?

Nice victory for Cobo and very good stage to watch
It is hard to say who has doped and who hasn´t with these time differences, we just have to wait for couple months after the race if we hear any news of positive tests. In case of someone winning several minutes on critical stage like Landis on Tour de France 2006 stage 17 (over 5 minutes) it is natural to suspect doping.

Do you need something more explicit that the gore movie Hautacam 2008 was? If Menchov hadn't been held back to not to drag Froome, we would have witnessed yet another MatxÃn/Gianetti blood powered 1/2 in a mountain stage.
There's being suspicious and there's being ridiculous, and Cobo belongs to the latter category.
