Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
roturn
Thanks both. It`s indeed a great result as he is just 68hi.
Seems like the renewal of his contract gave him a big boost. 11th in KBK and now 4th in PN with just one stage to go. Although this is a hard one again I hope he can stay in the first group. Otherwise Sanchez will try his luck.

Tirreno Adriatico - Stage 4
Tivoli - Torricella Sicura
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-1.jpg
Lots of climbing today. After several mountains and a long descent there is still a short uphill section to the finish. Hopefully Hesjedal can show something today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-2.jpg
Bobridge tried it again to get the right group. But again he had bad luck and so another day without Garmin in the break.
Pozzovivo (Colnago), Popovych (Farnese), Demaret (Cofidis), Honig (Acqua) and Rosseler (RadioShack) form a very strong group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-3.jpg
So Bobridge and Meier are controlling them as Hesjedal wants to try something today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-4.jpg
After a very long solo ride Kashechkin (Lampre) joins the group at half time. Another possible top 10 rider now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-5.jpg
On the long climb to the first of the two high mountains V.Efimkin (Androni) attacks. Nobody is following him and so he has to chase the group solo.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-6.jpg
Still 7km to go on the last big climb. Pate and Maaskant with problems now and also Fuglsang isn`t that strong. Kessiakoff of course is out of the pack for a long time now.
So Hesjedal decides to accelerate to split the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-7.jpg
With 1km to the top he was still feeling quite well and so he attacked.
Cobo Acebo, Cataldo and Scarponi immediatelly follow the Canadian.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-8.jpg
On the descent all group ran together again. With 6km to the finish Hesjedal is attacking again. He really wants the stage win today. Poozato, Ginanni, Boasson Hagen and Kolobnev try to follow.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/4-9.jpg
In the end Hesjedal had no chance and A.Efimkin wins the stage closely ahead of Cobo Acebo and Scarponi. Hesjedal is still on the 9th with the same time. Also Fuglsang and surprisingly Bennati finished in the same group. The Italian will take the lead.
Hesjedal has to try again tomorrow. It might be his last chance to create a gap.

@ lluuiiggii: That might be the reason Wink
I was actually very surprised that I had two crash free stages now. Especially when all the other big names fall down. But good to know that my rider learn to ride their bikes Wink

Alakagom
Hope Van Der Velde can make it, and good 9th with Hesjedal especially he must be quite tired after so many attacks in the sprint, looking good for next stages Smile

Just came back from work and played this stage already yesterday, so it might be the only report today as I am totally exhausted -.-

Paris Nice - Stage 8
Grasse - Nice
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-1.jpg
The last stage is one of the hardest and could mix the overall again. Just Riblon and Vanendert seems to have a secure advance, but they could attack each other. Van Der Velde will fight today, but he is realistic enough the see that it`s close to impossible.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-2.jpg
O'Grady (Leopard) and Zingle (Quick) as the first group with a small advance.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-3.jpg
Later the group became much stronger as Vaugrenard (FDJ), Gilbert (Liquigas) and Taaramae (Cofidis) attacked. This is a very early try.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-4.jpg
On the second last climb Van Der Velde is still in the smaller group but already exhausted. Why the hell he has a -5 on this stage!!! He won`t survive the final climb. What a pity. But he showed a great fight here.
Actually even a +5 wouldn`t give him a chance I think, but still annoying. Wink

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-5.jpg
More and more big names attack. Visconti, Spilak, M.Lloyd and Rolland with join the strong group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-6.jpg
Time for Sanchez to follow. With an incredible acceleration he creates a gap to the peloton. Together with Riblon, who was able to follow he chases the group...

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-7.jpg
...successful. Great effort by Sanchez. The peloton is 1'20 back now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-8.jpg
But in a weird way the caught the group on 50m!!! Never seen this before. Damn bug. So everything is open again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Paris%20Nice/8-9.jpg
Sanchez tried to attack on the small hills afterwards but without success. Taaramae, who was in the group for a long time was still the strongest in the sprint and takes the win ahead of Sagan and Rolland.
Riblon takes the overall and all French people are happy Wink

Sanchez at least finished in the top10 but this wasn`t a good course for him. No hilly stage brought time gaps except of an early breakaway. He will try it again next year.
Van Der Velde lost some minutes today and as everything was close together he felt back several placements but winning the KoM jersey.

too bad van der velde got dropped at the last stage and sanchez couldn't do that well either - but kind of nice to see a french guy win paris-nizza

Guido Mukk
great ..great story..I am glad that you was first with Garmin story just before me.

baia
Still a good result...pity for Van Der Velde...

Alakagom
+1 But still good result with Sanchez and if not the bad luck and all the falls you would have done much better.

Amen!

Guido should stick to Conti teams. Pfft

Van der Velde lost some positions, but you got a jersey and a rider in the top-10, so that's preety positive after an exciting Paris-Nice. Smile

roturn
Thank you all.
Nice to get this feedback.
Van Der Velde is really a pity as he rode that great but because of all the similar stages with big groups in the finish one bad stage was already very bad for the overall. Samuel Sanchez just ~100th, with also just one bad stage.
Except of the final two stages, the variant really looked nie but much too easy I think. Plus the last two weren`t working that smooth.
Tony Martin was 3rd without seeing him on one stage except the TT, that says enough I think, the strongest riders had no chances to gain time.

@Guido: Thanks. Obviously I had the right timing. Good luck with your new BMC story.

Hope I can get more nice results with Hesjedal on the last hilly stage and then 2 flat stages in Tirreno. I might play and post it this evening. Depends on when I am coming home from work.

Anonymer
Euskaltel really failed here, Anton and Samy Sanchez with 99. and 101. in gc

roturn
I think Sanchez crashed and this costed him about 60 placements. Not sure about Anton. Quite weird variant with many attacking possibilities. Will look for a harder one the next time.

Tirreno Adriatico - Stage 5

A hilly stage with some hard climbs. Also the last 4km are uphill. A good and probably last opportunity to get rid of Bennati, who is still wearing the leader jersey. Hesjedal will also try something here as he jsut has 10s to him.

Pinotti (FDJ), Zen (Colnago), Van De Walle (Omega), Bobridge (Garmin), Albasini (HTC), Vaitkus (RadioShack) and Weening (Rabobank) build the group of the day. The first time Bobridge was successful and then there are much better puncheurs in it.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/5-3.jpg
Quickstep and Liquigas are doing the pace mainly. The maximum is at 8min before melting again. It`s always like needing 45s on 10km, so absolutely possible.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/5-4.jpg
With 25km to go Cancellara is the first with an attack. Some riders try to follow but it will be hard to keep the advance on the longer descent.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/5-5.jpg
Weening attacked out of the group and created a bigger gap. The others will be caught soon, but might it be enough for him?

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/5-6.jpg
With 5km to go it`s again Cancellara initiating an attack.
Bakelants, Pozzato and also Hesjedal follow immediately. Some other riders, too but not sure about them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/5-7.jpg
They had no chance to escape. The peloton was jsut too fast and also Bennati was still in it. Martens was the strognest in the end and wins ahead of Scarponi and Langeveld.
The German seems to be in a great shape for Milan San Remo. But he could also do well in the Ardennes as the last year showed.

Nice attempt...maybe next stage Hesjedal can make a surprise..

roturn
Next 2 stages are very flat, so the only chance is to get nice results now as several riders have +10.

Tirreno Adriatico - Stage 6
Civitanova Marche - Civitanova Marche

The 6th stage is a sprinter stage. Next to Napolitano and Cavendish we also hope for Farrar. He isn`t in top form like many other sprinters here but we will see. It`s also important for Hesjedal and Fuglsang to get good results as they have chances for top 10 overalls.

Unfortunately the stage loaded very long, so I decided to lower the graphics. For some reasons there were many graphical errors, so I decided to take no screenshots.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/Tirreno/6-2.jpg

Actually the stage was very boring. A group around Gatis Smukulis (Ag2r) and Denys Kostyuk (Ceramica) attacked early. Also Maaskant tried it but with just +2'10 he wasn`t allowed.

So we made the pace with him and Kessiakoff, who feels a bit better again. He will be back in top form soon and might be the most important help for Hesjedal in the Ardennes.

When the sprint started Farrar had problems to find the right wheel. In the end he got Cavendish`s and we hoped for a nice result.

But just 2 sprinters had chances to win this one. Leezer with a small advance ahead of Napolitano. They even got a 22s gap to the rest.
Acqua with the places 3,4 and 5 did also very well. Unfortunately Cavendish had a bad day and so also Farrar with bad luck.

Therefore Hesjedal sprinted on the 9th and Fuglsang on the 13th and both gained some placements and are in the top 10 now. Hopefully we can keep this until tomorrow.

Bennati winning T-A would be quite suprising, but good job with Hesjedal and Fuglsang in the top10. Maybe you can gain some bonus seconds on the last stage
