I'm hanging up my bike for the remainder of the year now. The snow is probably coming within the next week or so (down to 2 degrees celsius now).
Gonna have to move indoors to start my *drum roll* marathon training! Going to run a marathon next year, don't know which one yet.
Will it be your first marathon?
Yeah, but I've been running for a few years, not competitive, but rather for the exercise. I usually switch between cycling and running during the summer so I get some variation. When I'm not cycling I tend to run about 35-40km per week.
Don't want to put you off (in fact, I really encourage you to do it), but training is an absolute bitch
Don't worry, I enjoy running. That's kinda why I wanna do this I've been mentally preparing for the training for rougly a year by trying to find a decent program to follow.
And by the way, I'm fully aware that a marathon is tough. If it wasn't everyone could finish one.
I think I might have a mental edge seeing as how I run most of the route when i'm training so I know every twist and turn
This was my first year on the road bike (did BMX before) and races about 2000km this year. The most of it alone, also some cyclo's. The biggest distance was 125km. The terrain was pretty flat with hills up to 80m height difference. My average speed was mostly between 27 and 31km/h. Next weekend I'm going to the German Eifel for a weekend with the family and I tend to ride there (did it also last year, about 60km with 1000 height metres).
The goal for 2012 is to ride in the mountains (Vosges/Alsace in France) and in 2013 the Alps. I'm really getting addicted to cycling
I re-signed for my current team for next year. Unfortunitley I have a garmin now, so the manager knows if I ride or not, so I'm actually going to have to train now...
Don't you have a buddy who's supposed to train more or less the same as you ? He could have a Garmin on each side of the handle bar, allowing you to share training duties. How about it, eh ?
Hello there new to the forum been playing 2010 for about a year now. looking into getting 2011 just don't have the resource$ right now.
I race for a Shoair Velosport club/team with way too many members to care about a cat 4 races like me This upcoming year I will most likely change teams to TRU or Le Grange and try and see if I fit in there. I race in California and try to race most of the road races I can. From San Francisco to San Diego my teammate and I drove with no support from out team (again we are just cat 3 and 4's so I guess it's just part of the growing pains) and raced with decent results. I ride a BMC SLC01 with campy on Edge rims here's a pic of my bike

Is there a minimum requirement for the Race Bronze Membership for BritishCycling?
Basically, I want to go to the London Track World Cup in February, and BritishCycling members get early access. The membership it suggests is the 'Ride' membership which would cost £24.
However, the Race Bronze Membership is much cheaper at £13.50. The only apparent differences are that you dont get any insurance stuff, but you do get a provisional racing license. Neither of which make any difference to me.
I thought you had to have a membership to get a license. And I also thought you could get your first bronze membership free. Could easily be wrong though.
I'm not quite sure whether this is the right topic or not...
I'm using (or was using) a Stronglight Vulcan crankset on my road bike, till it started getting loose near the crankset axis, and stuttered while I was pedaling (which felt very odd).
Apparently it's a known problem, and it led Stronglight to stop producing that model. Yet, they didn't refund any of the guys who encountered the problem, and I bought it almost 5 years ago, so there go my hopes for a refund.
Anyway, I must now find a replacement. So I'm asking for advices. I guess it'll be either Stronglight, either Campagnolo (everything else is Campagnolo on my bike). I noticed there are two sorts of Campa cranksets : ST and CT. I couldn't find an explanation, but it could be Standard and Compact, or is it something else ?
Also, do you have any advice, or things to check out or that matter for a crankset ? I know my levers size is 175 mm, and weight matters, but that's about it.

I'm guessing it means compact/standard, though I know nothing about Campy stuff. As long as you get a crank that is the right size and compatible with the BB you should be fine. I'd check with a mechanic first though.
All right, I went for a Campy Centaur, standard carbon version. More expensive than a Stronglight, but they've got a much much better after sales service at Campagnolo.
3 more weeks without my road bike. Dad gum it.
In fairness the bid was about 4:30 minutes but the bottom was not as steep to go fast and look impressive. The climb is short reaching a max of 10% for a bit. I climbed it 4 times that day though
I don't quite have the money for a road bike(yet)....
but I am very good on the road considering I use a mountain bike
It is odd when I do races because I overtake most of the people using road bikes...
I am a time trialist more or less, because I am useless at sprinting and mountains(probs coz of my mountain bike). I think the only reason I do well is because I have a fair bit of endurance, but that said, I don't think I'm ever going to be competitive enough to make a state championships. Im back in training for the clubs training weekend in Wales at the end of next month, something I tend to do really weel on, Im good on the hills when Im at my peak, but currently riding poorly and suffering badly on short hills which isnt me at all, hope to god im ready in time
Not exactly about "my" cycling, as I can't cycle right now (waiting for a knee IRM if anyone cares), but I've found it interesting to see the new Colnago bike, with disc brakes.
It was an improvement that had been expected for years and years, but nothing had been too convincing so far. We'll see if that generalises now.
Totally different matter : among the cyclists on this forum, what are everyone's plans for the current/coming season ?
I rode myself into some climbing form in Wales on my club training weekend.
On arrival on the friday we done a 20 mile loop which was ok considering I have no food all day.
Staurday morning I hit the wall through lack of food again after 25miles, Saturday afternoon we finally went into the steep longer hills where I continued to dissapoint, getting dropped on the first climb and never recovering.
Sunday I finally found some form, got dropped on the first climb but caught back up on the descent then attacked on the enxt climb but couldnt sustain it but still managed to stay ahead of the grouo behind. just.
After a weeks rest I am now hoping to build on that weekend and show the riding/climbing form I was showng last summer.
Racing is off as I still can't really afford it and maybe going to University in September, Im hoping I finally have a good year cycling with no drama's like previous
