It's weird to me that Garmin let him go. He did a fine job last season. He was suddenly reborn as a pretty good climber all of a sudden....and then he gets released? weird. |

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Garmin did try to sign him back, but it fell through for some reason, don't quote me on that, but thats what I heard. |

what? I didn't really follow his season, to be honest. I know his name and know he's a climber, but that's almost all I know about him.
Reading your two lines above my former message made it look quite clear to me. When riders suddenly improve at the moment they need to sign a new contract but despite good results don't sign again, probably they got some help to get good results, which Garmin would notice thanks to their program. |

Stop thinking that about every rider...
You have no proof of that |

Not having irrefutable proof has never stopped you before so you can see why I misinterpreted your post...

Nobody said anything about irrefutable proof. This guy (McCarty) is unimputable. There's NOTHING on him. So let's please not just assume he's guilty.
At least I personally do that for every rider for whom there is absolutely nothing pointing at him. |

Just read about operation puerto on wikipedia today (interesting reading) and it said that Basso was suspended on May 16 2007, did he only get a 1.5 year ban? which I think would be quiet wierd. (This could very well not be the right thread but as he's begining cycling again this year I found that it was the best thread to post it in).

He was provisinally suspended, then un-suspended, then re-suspended over and over again until his final ban was decided.
When the final ruling came, it was 2 years, but the total number of days he had been provisionally suspended were discounted from those 2 years, so he only had about 1 year left to "serve". Capisce?

He already had a preventive suspension from July 2006 till the end season. That time was deduced from his two years ban.
edit : too late, that's what happens when your fellow needs some help

Very, very surprisingly, Alberto Ongarato is now back with Petacchi, since Ongarato has signed with LPR |
