This Giro is quite simply insane.

I can't deny today's stage was really exciting. Nothing is written yet and that's amazing. However, I can't help but thing what will happen if Arroyo wins the Giro. Then all of a sudden everybody will jump to say this was a farce Giro à la Pereiro's Tour 2006. Cycling fans are hard. If a GT has is decided quickly due to difficult stages, it is not good. If a GT is pretty balanced due to easy stages, it is not good. If the favorite wins, it is not good. And if a dark horse (to say the least) wins, it is not good either.

There is still a long way to go in the giro and some very hard climbs... only good things can come from todays stage. The 'favourites' have got to do something now.... we may see a few early attacks on some of the mountain stages as they have nothing to lose.

Can't wait for Saturdays mountain stage. If Evans and Vino + italian favourites (Garzelli, Scarponi, Nibali, Basso) won't make a huge attack then they should be castrated. There can be no holding back now, Arroya is not that weak, they need to lay some heavy pace in the mountains.

Feel similar - I want the rider to have earned it, not to have got lucky then just clung on with some mediocre performances.
We'll see

If it hadn't been for that crash, Jan Bakelants would have easily won the stage I think. He must be really frustrated afterwards, but luckily for him he still has a lot of opportunities ahead. Speaking of the GC, Arroyo is now in pole, but who knows what can be lieing ahead in this Giro... |

Dunno about you, but I always liked Arroyo as a rider and I'm really happy he has a chance at winning something huge. The race is far from over, with at least three stages where he could lose five minutes or more, but if he can keep the form he showed on stage 7, he'll be a tough nut to crack.

Maybe he should try another job

WTF Dyachenko?
A pure climber does an amazing prologue, then sucks on the first mountain stage and then retires? Eh?

I don't know. Sure he's got a considerable gap, but he's never really ridden for the GC (not that I know of), and with the stages yet to come, I still have my money on Cadel.

Well, he did have a 10th and 11th spot in the Giro of 2007 and 2009. Also 13th in Tour 2007. But it all depends on Sastre in my eyes.

Gasparotto and Iglinsky climbed off together at the feed zone

I'm afraid that Sastre will get in form exactly when it counts now (last week) and with 4 minutes ahead of Cadel, I'm very afraid that it's tour over for my favourite. It was maybe his last chance to win a GT... |

I'm still waiting to see if Evans doesn't blow up during the 3rd week. Both him and Vino...

Seems like Giro peleton pressed RESET button today. Now it's between Arroyo, a guy able of a GT top 10 on normal times, and Sastre, a guy able to drop everyone on climbs like Zoncolan, Mortirolo, Gavia.
Lookin' forward to Zoncolan now. Hope to see a normal battle between favourites
The thing is that i don't know really Sastre's form, and how he's recovering from his injuries.

Normally Arroyo goes into several attacks and gains time in the mountains that way, if I remember correctly.
I don't think he is among the 10-15 strongest climbers in the Giro this year, nor the years where he has done well... He is very consistent though and that could be a good thing this time.
He will definitely be in top 5, unless he goes total blank in a stage losing 15 minutes.

Today 41 riders passed the finish line outside the time limit. Luckily for them the jury will allow them to start tomorrow. though they will lose 25 points in the points classification.
And Mollema can forget the white jersey. He 16 minutes down on Porte.
I hope he goes for a stage win now.
