Duarte is a better climber than Intxausti, so Intxausti must have underestimated the young colombian. |

do you have a link to the result? or do you know top 5 or 10?
Don't hava a link. Quite shocking it's not covered by Velonews og Cyclingnews. I watched it on German television. It was a great lead-out by Milram, they had three riders in the final breakaway. Terpstra and Knees led out Wegmann, who just held off Verheyen.
Julien Simon of Saur Sojasun tried to go solo at 8km remaining and nearly made it. He was caught inside the last two kilometers.
Top8 (all at the same time):
1. Fabian Wegmann - Milram
2. Geert Verheyen - Landbouwkrediet
3. Bert Scheirlinckx - Landbouwkrediet
4. Marco Marcato - Vacansoleil
5. Luca Mazzanti - Katyusha
6. Guillaume Levarlet - Saur Sojasun
7. Carlo Scognamiglio - ISD
8. Dirk Bellemakers - Landbouwkrediet
That was the hardest race to follow I've seen in a long, long time. There were a trillion groups all over the place. Confusing!
By the end, Wegmann and Marcatto were the only guys left with any kind of sprint, and Marcato was dead.

I watched the Frankfurt race in the evening - and very glad I did so! What a race - and well done by Milram, bringing back Simon. |

Yeah, he won stage 5 of Romandie, and the race in case you were wondering what MB was refering to.
Now, all together now *facepalm*

So, Simon Spilak has his first Pro Tour victory (in a GC, and his 2nd ever after his win yesterday) stolen by Piti. Will he complain? No. Then frag him. |

Form-wise Valverde has been racing at a very high level since late-January.
On the other hand, I hope to see Basso reach a peak at the Giro. At the moment it doesn't look good for him. |

Basso can't even dream about winning Grand Tours this year. I was watching Liquigas' tactics and strength closely last year (because of Pole, Szmyd) and Ivan is clearly unable to reach top results.
First of all, he lacks acceleration. After huge work usually done uphill by Szmyd and the rest, Basso was trying to attack, but... he couldn't drop anyone. Even though after Szmyd's work only few riders are left, Basso can't drop more of them - furthermore, he himself drops when first acceleration comes.
Secondly, he will loose time at time trials. That's why I don't believe he gonna be Liquigas' leader at Giro. I think Pellizotti would be perfect leader for them - if he's in form, he'll know how to use Szmyd's and Basso's help. And these two guys would make the best pair of luxury mountain gregarios we had seen since early US Postal.

Yeah right about that. Remember the Pandera stage, Liquigas doing the work. Basso taking over...then Valverde dropped.
Gesink takes over and Basso drops... |

Lack of accelaration never will stop someone to win GT. I realy dont know what has happened for he's TT skills.. He never had been top TT rider..but also never had been that bad.
Top form (probably doped) Basso just ride away from rivals. Even Lance who had great acceleration in mountains..could not droped him..Basso just "crawled" back.
When other guys start to atack against each other he just keep he's speed.
Gesink is same type of rider..he's acceleration's looks riddiculous

Meh, Gesink's acceleration is not that bad really. Just look at his sprint results and also his attacks in the Vuelta last year on Velifique.
Basso could never do that. Basso could never win a 3 man sprint in Emilia either. Basso, in his good days, just rode a tempo that nobody could follow.
Gesink is definately more explosive.

Only question that Basso needs to answer this year, is does he have the little extra that he was lacking last year?
If he can find it, he can win. If he can't, then he can't win.
And judging by Trentino his condition is way ahead of Pellizotti. |

Pellizotti did nothing at Trentino last year though, and went on to finish 2nd overall in the Giro
Besides, 3rd in the 'GP Industria & Artigianato - Larciano' is a good indication that Pellizotti is coming into form

And judging by the last race Pellizotti was in, he's been hiding his form a bit in Trentino. Maybe not digging as deep as Basso.
