Geez, I have a testicular cancer, diagnosed in september so I didn't cycle since three months. The operation went well and I'm following a cure of chemotherapy which is quite violent against the organism.
Because of this I am going to have different injections to be sure I stay in good health and next week I will go to the hospital for an injection of... EPO !!!
Guess I should start cycling again...
Yeah that really sucks. But you seem to be taking it fairly well. Hopefully you recover quickly from that horrible disease. |

If it doesn't get all swollen, it's not broken, most likely. Fractures tend to make the whole part around it swollen. |

Get some ice to put on it, if not done yet, as well as anti inflammatory cream if you've got some, and arnica cream if you've got it. Then if you can stand the pain, let the night pass, you'll see what it's like.
I fell on my wrist badly once or twice too, and solved it like that. It was very painful but no fracture or anything.
I think my last fall in a race caused me a bad wrist and knee pain. I fell after one km on a classic (traffic thing in the middle of the road, we had to pass on the right, the guy on the left front of me braked like a jackass and turned, hitting my front wheel). With the hit on my knee I couldn't raise my right leg to stand on my bike again, that was quite embarrassing with people telling me to ride again, when I would have liked but simply couldn't move my leg.
That was... in April 2002 I reckon ? |

In the past few days I've crashed heavily twice, which has opened another can of worms. Firstly, my handlebars came loose and basically dropped out of position, which lead to a very embarrasing ride home, and then yesterday my gear controls disintegrated, and got stuck in position. No more bike riding for me for a while then. |

1 week till i sample my first alpine climb... prety nervous but also excited! Did a pre Alp'dhuez test on my tacx trainer today (Alpine classics Real life video) did it in 58mins 20secs averaged 290 watts/13.6 kph (4watt/kg) i think this is a good sign i'll get up there... i know it doesn't have the wind or heat factor (although my conservatory was about 30 degrees C! Anyone else ever sampled the alps have any more tips for when i get there.

Today i have ended my outdoor training, getting to cold here, everything below 10 degree is not fun anymore for me, when its just for the fun. Because i have knee issues i dont race i just cycle for the pure fun of it!
As my knee was little better this year i upped my mileage from 6100 km with an average of 26,75 km/h (in 8 month) last year to 7900 with an average 27,78 km/h this year since April 1st. My top month being June with 1908 km, had a bit of an off month in July for several reasons. Most fun month was september and ocotber because of lots of biking in the nearby forest. Clocked a total of 95300hm this year. The 100000hm is a good goal for 2012
Pretty happy with it. Now i will just do bit of indoor training and the daily way to work and in the city, but thats not included in my statistics.
How was your training year?

That's almost 450 km per week in June ? Were you on the bike for hours every single day ?
My training on the bike this year ? I did home trainer in my kitchen from January to June included, as the night falls way too early to go running (or cycling) outdoor.
Then I normally cycled once or twice a week, once running competitions had started. I cycled much more when I had to deal with knee (or more generally : joints) pains. As I couldn't spend more time on the bike than running, my fitness level decreased in April-May.
Once my knees became less painful I cycled less, until I was on holiday, in August. Must have cycled like 500 km in three weeks, plus tons of running. Then... I injured myself again, late August, but that time the muscles were hurt (torn, strained, whatever), basically all the muscles around the left hip (aductors, glutes, hamstrings).
I still feel pain standing on one leg to wear socks or shoes. Though I started riding my bike again one month ago, I've decided to give it up during a few weeks, as I feel it's slowing down the recovery (my leg becomes painful again a few hours or the next day, even though it's not really painful on the bike).
I couldn't tell how many km I've cycled this year, especially because of the home trainer sessions. Must be a figure between 2000 and 3000 km, ridden mostly on my own, with outdoor rides between 25 and 100 km, and my average speed was usually between 28 and 31 km/h (I'm not riding that as if it was a time trial though). |

Agree, no fun below 10 degrees, weather here is 5 to 10 degrees with chance of rain. I always hope for warm weather for as long as possible and then a quick drop below 0 so I could go skiing.
Too bad weather won't agree with me, I'm stuck with crappy middle weather for 1-2 months.
Still I try to go out for a spin, 1-2 hours is not that bad as long as I don't go too far in case I get rain. Better than indoors trainer, never manage over hour on that and if there's nothing good on TV then its suffering.

Yeah, June was a bit extrem. We didnt have much rain days and i always cycle after work from 1800-2000 and then on the weekend i did 2 longer tours 3-4 hours. Despite special tours i dont do long training rides from more then 4 hours.
My knee tends to feel better when i cycle so i do it quite regullary, i cant put much power on the pedal without getting pain, but i have good endurance from my running career.
I now have my first indoor sessions, never do more then 1 1/2 hours it gets to boring after it

I'm hanging up my bike for the remainder of the year now. The snow is probably coming within the next week or so (down to 2 degrees celsius now).
Gonna have to move indoors to start my *drum roll* marathon training! Going to run a marathon next year, don't know which one yet. |

I start the 2012 season tomorrow. From the beginning of October until now I have only trained when I have felt like it and just slacked off on the couch most of the time.
I'm going to have minimum one interval session on my bike (bike has to be on a trainer though) until late December. Rest of my training will be easy. Probably some running, if my knee holds up, and a lot of XC skiing when snow is plentiful |

Here's hoping for a marathon too, some day, when I'll be free of various joints pain, and will stop falling into separated parts every once in a while. |

Yeah, but I've been running for a few years, not competitive, but rather for the exercise. I usually switch between cycling and running during the summer so I get some variation. When I'm not cycling I tend to run about 35-40km per week. |
