Wtf, Kochetkov?

cio93
He lost 39 seconds to Bouet yesterday, so he was roundabout 3 minutes slower than him today. Not a performance worth mentioning imo.

Aru Grin Good day for him. Smile

Giro del Trentino, St. 2, Vetriolo Terme (13.05km,7.78%,1015m)

Nibali, Wiggins: 36 min 49 sec, 21.27 Kph, VAM 1654 m/h, 5.95 W/kg

Both clearly in top shape for the Giro.

The winner Siutsou: 36:30, 21.45 Kph, VAM 1668 m/h, 6.01 W/kg

Interesting to see if Bouet can hang on and looking forward to the pre-battle battle between Nibali and Wiggins.

Great riding by Siutsou. I'd say 8.0/10.

Indeed. And then Santambrogio broke the meter.

Just looked through the results from todays stage in Trentino, and saw a name I haven't seen or heard of in years:

14 Przemyslaw Niemiec - Lampre - Merida 1.07
15 Marcos Garcia - Caja Rural - Seguros RGA 1.11
16 Ivan Rovny - Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest 1.33
17 Davide Rebellin - CCC Polsat Polkowice
18 Ivan Basso - Cannondale Pro Cycling

I remember him being hailed as a future super star in cycling back in 2006/2007.

Does anyone know why he hasn't had his breakthrough?

He had a very common disease amongst Russian (and Eastern European in general, although bizarrely it happens with Danes as well) riders, it's called "turning pro". They overcook so much their riders they are pretty much done when they turn pro. Not to say that you can't use as much EPO in the pro ranks.

He did good last year in the USAPCC.

@ kumazan
That sounds like a very reasonable explanation. Reading the "turning pro" disease made me burst into laugh, even though it's true (among danes aswell).

@Miguel98
Just looked up the results, and seems like he did it in a pretty strong field. Maybe a sign of him turning into a good rider after all...

Interesting to see if Bouet can hang on and looking forward to the pre-battle battle between Nibali and Wiggins.

If those riders weighed 70 kg, we could compare them to the famous 70 kg rider with a 8 kg bike.
Then they'd have done 415-420 W during 35 to 40 minutes.
That's a lot. It doesn't enter the suspicion zone, but it's definitely right below it.

If nothing else the Giro contenders are in great shape already.

With regard to Siutsou I appreciate he has top 10 pedigree in major stage races but I found it an exceptional performance. Of course it could be just that, numbers don't prove anything and this is only day 2 of a short stage race when riders should be very fresh, the numbers aren't fully verified and the conditions are an unknown.

Given my opinion of his capablities this performance surprised me but my opinion is a very subjective thing. I hope it's entirely legitimate surprise, the numbers aren't crazy but they personally gave me food for thought.

Avin Wargunnson
Well, he is from Sky, so i am not even wondering. Cool
I'll be back

I_Mayo
Are you serious? It's like Sky would have enough riders to have a train for le Mauna Kea.

But it's true with russians. They're pushed so hard that most either are already at the limit of their potential (think the Rabo Continental alumni) or they are dead tired.

Coach Kuznetsov is especially infamous for it.

Bouet was able to hang on on today's climb, so he should retain the leaders jersey.

The ageing Italian trio of Scarponi, Tiralongo and Santaromita is out front by 2 minutes with 15k to go. Santambrogio attacked the peloton on the climb, but shouldn't be able to hold the gap.
Evans dropped from the 20-rider leaders group, seems like he's pretty much done.

It's just the pack and the trio with 10 km to go.

My stream just passed the 10k mark, seems like it's quite delayed.

Santaromita takes it!

Malkael
Well after all that Scarponi might as well not have bothered sitting on the back of Santaromita's wheel. He might have had more luck sitting up front and pedaling at a high tempo they way that panned out.

1. Santaromita, 2. Tirralongo, 3. Scarponi. So after all that arguing and jockeying for position they both get done, bahaha.
