Petronas - Monster Energy; The end of an era
dienblad
img407.imageshack.us/img407/8602/1logon.jpg

Today can be a decisive day for some of the GC-contenders. When they want to stay close to GC-leader Alberto Contador, they have to ride one hell of a ITT. The 23.5 kilometres around Moudon are difficult. Immediately after the start, the road starts to arise up to 12%, as 300 height metres have to be made.
img515.imageshack.us/img515/9382/etappe4.jpg

David Zabriskie (Garmin) is the first one to set a great time: 33'24. Don't know if it will bring him the win, but he should get close!
img824.imageshack.us/img824/9085/1zabriskie.jpg

This is probably the most difficult stage for Andy Schleck, as he has to try to minimize his loss. He does it with a fast start in the uphill section. Well, it's not good, not bad, pretty mediocre: 28th in total, 1'21 behind today's winner.
img829.imageshack.us/img829/3096/2schleck.jpg

Vincenzo Nibali is the GC's number 6 and in preparation for the Giro d'Italia. He rides a very good ITT, only '8 behind Zabriskie.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/4702/3nibali.jpg

Thomas De Gendt started the ITT as the GC's number 5, but will drop 3 places after it. He sets the 16th time, 1'00 behind today's winner, and is the best from our team.
img266.imageshack.us/img266/8725/4degendt.jpg

Next one is Bradley Wiggins and he rides a pretty disappointing race. "Only" 9th at '46.
img3.imageshack.us/img3/9939/5wiggins.jpg

Simon Gerrans is the worst time trailist of the top 5, and he tries to make up for it, by riding a fast first part (with the ascend in it), but falls back a lot in the 2nd half: 23rd at 1'12.
img16.imageshack.us/img16/3117/6gerrans.jpg

The last 2 riders, Tony Martin and Alberto Contador, have started and already crossed the line of the split time:
St. Clerges, 9.6km:
1. Alberto Contador 15'35
2. David Zabriskie + 9
3. Tony Martin + 13
4. Vincenzo Nibali +13
5. Simon Gerrans + 24
7. Andy Schleck + 26

So Tony Martin knows he has to make up time in the 2nd part. He's 4 seconds behind current leader Zabriskie at the first split, and isn't able in gaining time. 2nd so far, at '4.
img811.imageshack.us/img811/5126/7martin.jpg

Than the last rider on the road, Alberto Contador. Although El Pistolero looses a few seconds in the 2nd half, his margin was big enough to win the ITT and to stay in the leaders jersey.

Results
As you can see, Contador is showing the team's new jersey!

Word from the DS
Time trialing is very difficult for this DS, especially with daily forms between -1 and +1. But I think we minimized our losses, and still have one rider in the top 10 and Schleck entering the top 20. The next 2 stages are classified as mountain stages, so expect some GC-changes!

Well, Andy's fitness was 88 ad his TT stats 72, so losing 1'20 to Conta who was a TT stat of 81 isn't bad to my opinion. Plus his daily form was -1, and I started a little too fast with him (losing '26 in the climb, but then '55 in the last 15 flat and descending kilometres).
So i think it's a reasonable time loss...

The 5th stage is the first of two mountain stages. The first part of the route between Vevey and Chatel is flat. Then at the summit of the Pas de Margins, the riders enter France, and after the Col du Corbier, the riders will finish in Chatel after 159 kilometres.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/3217/etappe5.jpg

With 2 1st-category climbs, it is a great opportunity for Francis De Greef to collect some more KOTM-points to secure his jersey. He was in an early attack, but that group got caught (what to expect with 19 riders in it?).
But when Oliver Zaugg attacks shortly before the foot of the first climb, it's a great moment for De Greef to join the attack.
img718.imageshack.us/img718/4548/179km.jpg

Zaugg isn't interested in KOTM-points, so it's easy for De Greef to collect the 12 points given at the summit. 2'04 behind them follows BMC's Johan Tschopp, who made his move in the early part of the ascend. The peloton did an slowly ascend and follows at 5'57 with 64 kilometres remaining.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/1223/264km.jpg

The 2nd climb, the Col du Corbier has begun and Tschopp is closing in on the 2 leaders. When he is only '40 behind, Zaugg gets nervous and attacks. De Greef doesn't follow him, but continues in his own pace.
img16.imageshack.us/img16/9052/323km.jpg

In the peloton we see an attack by GC-leader Contador with 22km to go (3'21 behind the leaders). But he doesn't creat a big gap!
img10.imageshack.us/img10/5807/422km.jpg

Back to the leaders: Zaugg creates a gap of 15 seconds with his attack, but then the fatigue hits him and De Greef joins him again and even leaves him behind. Our Belgian rider reaches the 2nd summit in first place, and Zaugg follows at '12. Tschopp is 1'21 behind, a group with Contador, Nibali, Van den Broeck and Spilak at 2'36. The other GC-contenders follow at 3'01.
img811.imageshack.us/img811/5540/518km.jpg

De Greef rides a good descend and extends his lead. With 10km to go, he leads Zaugg with '28 and the chasing group (the group Contador gets caught) with 3'08. Things look good for a stage win!
img59.imageshack.us/img59/5587/610km.jpg

Then with 8km to go, Contador tries again. This time Andy Schleck follows him, together with Thomas Rohregger (Sony Ericsson) and Simon Spilak (Lampre).
img23.imageshack.us/img23/1309/78kme.jpg

De Greef is entering the last kilometre and his lead is about a minute to the group of GC-contenders, that have caught Zaugg. Vincenzo Nibali tries to gains few seconds in the last kilometre.
img861.imageshack.us/img861/9170/81kmb.jpg

But the win goes to Francis De Greef, his first for our team and the biggest in his career! Nibali finishes in 2nd at '29, Spilak in 3rd. Our GC-contenders are in this group.

The last stage, with start and finish in Sion. The route is only 122 kilometres long, but features 3 1st-category climbs. So it should shake up the GC!
img254.imageshack.us/img254/3771/etappe6.jpg

There's no shaking in the first part of the race. The peloton crosses the first two summits together. Attacks by Mikaël Chérel (AG2R) and also Giampaolo Cheula (Nespresso) and Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R) are fruitless.
So an entire peloton starts the ascend of the last climb of the day, the Ovronnaz. Our team has taken the lead of the peloton.
img41.imageshack.us/img41/652/130km.jpg

After Wilco Kelderman was ascending in a high pace, it lasts untill 4 kilometres before the summit (and 24 before the finish) when we see the first attack. And surprise, surprise.... it's Contador! Andy Schleck jumps behind him.
img825.imageshack.us/img825/2949/224km.jpg

Contador is the first to reach the last summit of this Tour de Romandie. 16 seconds behind him follow Schleck and Vincenzo Nibali. Simon Spilak follows at '46, Michele Scarponi at 1'14 and a group of 36 riders, including GC's number 2 Tony Martin and most of our riders, at 1'45.
img197.imageshack.us/img197/7332/320km.jpg

The first 5 join each other, and also Jurgen Van den Broeck and Ruben Plaza, who attacked out of the chasing group do it. Obviously, there is no cooperation between Schleck, Contador and Nibali, else this could not happen. So 11km before the finish, Schleck decides to try it on his own, also because of the chasing group that is only '32 behind.
img155.imageshack.us/img155/2923/411km.jpg

But he doesn't stand a chance in the last flat 10 kilometres. So there's a regrouping of 41 riders and immediately Tony Martin, Ion Izagirre and Tadej Valjavec try to attack, but also fruitless. We've decided to set our cards at De Gendt, has he has some good legs left.
img195.imageshack.us/img195/6779/52km.jpg

He is launched by Wilco Kelderman and is in the lead with 400 metres to go. Simon Spilak is closely behind, but from the back comes José Joaquin Rojas Frown
img13.imageshack.us/img13/7436/6400m.jpg

And in the last metres of this stage, Rojas overtakes De Gendt to claim his first win of the season. Spilak gets 3rd and 41 riders finish within the same time, everybody in the Top 20 is in it.

Aargh, so close today to take the 2nd stage win....
But we can look back at a succesful Tour de Romandie, with a stage win, the KOTM & U25 jersey, and we even won the teams ranking. And Andy is getting in form for the Giro.
