Well, I think that you can't say Contador chose poor tactics. He has decided that Froome is a bigger threat. You may argue if this is a good evaluation and if this is a strategic error, but the tactics behind this thinking was performed perfectly.

I dont get Riis and Saxobank
What are they doing in this race, yesterday they wasted a strong Zaugg on a breakaway and today Contador seem to have forgotten that he is the leader and have absolutely zero reasons to attack, let Rodriguez and Valverde/Froome do the work.
Its really terrible to watch.

@niconico - Maybe. Depends on how you watch it. I find him and his yo-yo tactic quite interesting. Think that all of this will pay off in 3rd week for him.
---
Valverde and Rodriguez played great there. That was basically a win-win situation for them, as Contador had no choice except to pace whole mountain. They both used that at the end.

Why is he a coward? Because he rides smart and gains time on Contador? Valverde could win the Vuelta and the the best way for him is to attack Contador in the last km. So if you're a coward because you don't attack all the time, then i suppose we should call Kelderman a fucking coward? |

Contador had a mental meltdown today, i'm having bad dejavu´s of 2012 , Contador just isn't that strong so he can pull a fast one on a guy like Rodriguez and Valverde
Not to mention tomorrow is still there and you can be sure Contador will pay for today. |

Yeah, Valverde has been like the most passive of the favourites, right? Holy crap man, half of the people in here just can't get enough of hatin on Valverde, while the whole Katusha team this whole Vuelta has done nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, other than derping around. I mean, Moreno and Caruso just fucking around and apparently are riding secondary classification instead of just splitting the field and droping Froome. Movistar has been the only team along with Valverde and Contador have been the only ones at least trying to do something.
I seriously don't know what the Katusha-management is thinking at, I doubt I have ever seen such horrible DS work. Meanwhile Valverde gets blame for actually trying to win the Vuelta, contrary to J-Rod who needs much more time in order to win the Vuelta. Stating Rodriguez was worse the Valv today, well, I can't understand that. Espeically giving the fact that Movistar at the first place was the only team to try to make the race interesting... Also, Valverde tried yesterday. How did that go? Today he was more cautious and rightfully so, even though he could have used those 5 secs on Niemiec. But he has gotten himself a stage victory - J-Rod and the horrible Katusha team hasn't. I honestly dont know wtf Moreno and Caruso are doing apart from playing around like 20 years old having no clues of how to race properly. |

Great stage! Contador is making a big mistake of thinking Froome has his biggest threat... He's fucked tomorrow if he thinks like that. I mean, if Katusha and Movistar start to push early, bar Contador not having any team, if Froome fells behind, will Contador still think Froome is the biggest threat? |

What is best a stage win or the overall win.
Think about what a zaugg could have done to pull contador and what a possible stage win might mean if they lose the overall.
Contador could have taken a lot more time on Valverde and he would probably never have lost any time to froome. |

Dan Martin really loks like 6th best climber in this race, barring that La Zubia stage. |

And considering Donald Tusk's new job, this just has to be a Polish year |

Was Valverde not the first GC rider to attack yesterday? Did he not set the pace in that leaders group for a good km (in what ended up being about 7mins)
Im not sure if anyone knows this, but Valverde plain and simple isn't as strong as Contador. After yesterdays stage Im pretty sure he's learned its not a great idea to spend most of his energy early on in the climb.
Once again, people will see it how they want to see it, but just remember that when you have a clear bias against someone, you will look like an idiot when you make remarks that aren't even true.

Lol at Froome crashing into a Katusha rider on the climb because he was too busy looking at his power meter.

Uhm, missed stage due to some climbing of my own but watched now. Contador with some crazy attacks but he is missing the quality to stick through. Tour-Level Contador certainly would have got his lead over Valv and Purito, not quite there yet still. Both of them, Valv and Purito, ride within their abilites. No reason for insults against them or Froome or anybody really. Grow up people.

My respect to Froome is just rising for such a smart ride and self-control. Perfect.
Self control, yes. But far from perfect. He neglects any sort of drafting, even if they just go for a couple of meters, and he is always at the receiving end, speculating that it will work out to the finish line. Racing as calcucated effort, but is this a race then? Mountain TT against himself. Though yes it's weird, and certainly a bit of one of a kind and something that's kinda cool, that he rides his own race, whilst everybody goes crazy around him.
It also adds an extra layer to the Vuelta. The three Spaniards fighting out, but will they manage to arrive at the finish ahead of the man with the calculator?
