Valverde out?!?!? This is the big question
and will Ramussen prove if he is a extremely good climber????
I think tomorrow we will have some answers!
Rasmussen is a very good climber. the problem is that he deals very badly with sudden accelerations. if there are repeated attacks he will have trouble holding on.
Wrong. Valverde attacked several times on Galibier and each time Rasmussen was right on his tale. He dosnt have the acceleration like Contador but he surely aint another Ullrich. Besides, Rasmussen now has some execellent teammates for the mountains. Dekker, Boogerd and Menchov are all able to set the killing pace that Rasmussen enjoys. I think that Rasmussen will defend his jersey tomorrow and then try to take time on Monday and Wednesday. Tomorrow we will see Valverde, Vino and hopefully Mayo and Contador attacking. I think Moreau now is paying the mistimed form. |

so, just because your opinion differs, mine is automatically wrong? not even a "I disagree". just plain "wrong". great attitude...

you could surely have picked a better example. not once did Rasmussen himself answer on the Galibier. always Evans, except once when it was Cobo.

not Dekker, but the other two, agreed. that is exactly what suits Rasmussen's style. a high pace that doesn't lend itself to attacks. however I don't see him following Evans or Contador tomorrow. but time will tell, and every single time having the yellow elevates a rider's performance greatly.

he said so himself that, his body willing, he will attack every day in the Pyrenees

Valverde might very well pay for today's effort. if he lost that much time it means he still had to dig deep for it. Vino will definitely attack, I don't think anyone can argue that. Mayo depends on how he's feeling, same as Contador.
if Evans doesn't have a bad day (which he very rarely has) he might well win this. but there's still two stages where significant difference can be made: tomorrow and tuesday.

I've been saying so too, but he did crash yesterday, which definitely had a big part in today's performance.
Kloden and Kashechkin also crashed today. Kashechkin's was particularly heavy.
they might just pay for that tomorrow
Overall, I'm very much looking forward to it.

glad to know you enjoyed it
I don't think he'll lose the jersey before the final TT unless he has a horrible day.
but unlike today, the penultimate stage is dead flat... |

Don't worry .. I don't fancy him any chances of winning. But as long as he has the yellow jersey, I've a right to be super nationalistic and super happy |

why would I worry? as long as Piti and the Astana boys don't win it, I'm as happy as a mule in a haystack |

Im sorry but he can win it, if he takes time on as many stages as he can in the pyranees and stick with others he can hang in on the TT. dont count him out yet.

Yeah in game for sure but i doubt it in real TdF, he just lacks recovery/resistance/stamina for long stage races (wish he had all of them 79 like ingame ).
It seems, he quickly burns out unless it was some tactical manouver today, but lets see in next 2-3 mountain stages if he can hold on and finish at least in top 10. |

Its hard to keep a high morale when you get passed by Rasmussen in a Time Trial!

issoisso: I wrote wrong because I think Rasmussen proved you wrong by following Valverde on Galibier. The very first attack Valverde made that crushed the peloton it wasnt Cobo who closed it. It was Rasmussen who was right behind the spaniard and with Evans on his wheels. Mayo and the others had troubles closing the gap.
Maybe im not completely neutral in judging Rasmussen because im danish but i still think he can keep up with all the favourites acceleration except Contador.
Hopefully we will see some fireworks tomorrow. I certaily hope so! |

I never said Rasmussen couldn't follow an attack. I said repeated accelerations wear him down (meaning: much more than it does to the others). the key word here being "repeated", and that is why I believe he will have a lot of trouble.
as for the attack that Valverde made, I never said it was Cobo. I said Evans was the one who answered all attacks, except one of them which it was Cobo. check my post again
unfortunately, I don't have the video anymore, so the cyclingnews commentary will have to do. take a look at it and you'll see Evans responded |

I remember rasmussen closing the gap. although i think your giving him a bit too much credit puje, he isnt the best acceleration guy in the pack, mayo and evans have more than he does, thats what rab lacks a quick climber, like piepoli, we have menchov but he isnt fast at all, he is big and beefy.

Evans accelerates like a hippo compared to Rasmussen!
And - the result after Galibier proved that Evans and Contador wasted their energy on nothing and was overhauled in the end... And - Rasmussen was able to follow the rest - on descend, on flat, and on the last climb (minus Valverde - the 1 km sign maniac).
Whether he can consist repeated attacks - we'll find out today.
I think he can - but I think he's exhausted after the TT as well... |

as you'll be able to see today, that is extremely far from being the case. be sure to keep an eye on the stage today

actually, I don't think he is. Valverde and Moreau, on the other hand... |

not much longer until the Port de Pailhéres where Astaná are likely to start attacking with everything they've got
also, Evans, the man who always plays down his strength says we haven't seen the best of him yet. for a guy like him to say that...well...let's just say that the only other guy like that is Cancellara and the only time Cance said something similar was before this year's prologue.....we all know what happened there.

EDIT: this tipe of riding is EXACTLY what's suited to Rasmussen
Astarloza (8th overall) dropped
