Garmin squad in 2012
Luis Leon Sanchez is our leader here as Hesjedal just starts his season today. Luckily Fuglsang is fit again after his injury and hopes for a descent form for Tirreno - Adriatico. Millar will be Sanchez`s biggest help as he is in a good shape.
Also Stetina improved once again a bit and is now a good climber.

***** Kreuziger
**** Sanchez, Devolder
*** Gerdemann, Uran, A.Efimkin
** Rodriguez, Chavanel, Bakelants, Pauriol
* Hesjedal, Vanendert, Nocentini, Kirchen, Albasini
The starting field is quite strong here with many top 15 contenders for the Ardennes. With Sanchez is a good form we hope for a great result here.
Lugano - Lugano
The course goes over 5 laps of the smaller hills and then 5 times over the higher hills, where we expect the successful attacks.
Claude (Movistar), Rujano (Farnese Neri), Gustov (Sky), Marzano (Lampre), Pavarin (Colnago), Klostergård (Leopard), Kriit (Cofidis) and Girardi (Ceramica) form the group of the day. Especially Rujano is known as a great climber with his focus on the Giro probably. But also Marzano proved in 2011 that he is good for top results in these kind of classics.
Omega, FDJ and Ag2r are doing the pace in the peloton. All of them have good riders here but not the top favourites.
Moos (BMC) and Kreuziger (Liquigas) attack with half way to go. This attack is very surprising as Kreuziger was the top favourite in most eyes.
Time for us to control the gap to him. We never allow them more than 2-3 minutes.
What a season for Fuglsang so far. Crashing in his first race and then again here in his first race after the injury ;(
Luckily he can continue but he might be lightly injured now for the next days.
With Garmin and Katusha doing a high pace now the field starts to split.
Unfortunately Sanchez and Millar are alone now in this group. Hesjedal and Stetina felt quite good but lost contact unfortunately.
Moos now solo after getting rid of Kreuziger. Obviously the Czech`s form is quite bad.
Veikkanen with an acceleration. Immediately Sanchez is following him like some others.
Together they caught Kreuziger and also Moos, when Sanchez accelerated again as it is already the last climb now.
And he takes the win and celebrates a great finish in a good February for him. The next group finished with +52s and also Millar was able to stay there. Rodriguez finished 2nd while Moos was still able to defend the 3rd on the descent.
Result

I think you gonna domiante P-N with Sanchez no problems, will Sanchez take break after P-N or race Volta a Volta a Catalunya ? Though T-A gonna one of those 'dull races for your team' when you have no good captain with decent fitness, good luck Damn, I wrote too much |

He will have a short break afterwards. I expected him at MSR but obviously I had other ideas in the planning time. So Haussler, Goss, Vansummeren, Boom and Hesjedal will be there.
Sanchez will ride Pais Vasco, California, Suisse and Tour without any other races in between as he is focussing on the Tour. That said he won`t also race the Ardennes as we have good options with Hesjedal and Vansummeren. |

The second cobbled classic this season starts in Western Flanders` city Kuurne goes to Bruxelles and back to Kuurne. The riders have to pass some hills, cobbles and might get problems with the heavy wind in general. As the cobbled parts are just a few the race can be won by less brilliant classic specialists.
Result in 2011
1 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin - Cervelo | s.t. | 2 | Filippo Pozzato | Team Katusha | 3 | Matti Breschel | Leopard Trek | 4 | Martijn Maaskant | Garmin - Cervelo | 5 | Juan Jose Haedo | Team Saxobank - Sungard | 6 | Tom Boonen | Quick Step - Innergetic | 7 | Lars Boom | Garmin - Cervelo | 8 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas - Cannondale | 9 | Philippe Gilbert | Liquigas - Cannondale | 10 | Johan Vansummeren | Garmin - Cervelo |
Although it will be hard to defend the great result from last year we will give our best. At least the squad is stronger this time.
Garmin squad in 2012
Last years winner Tyler Farrar will try to defend his title. Unfortunately his form isn`t that good (72) but still better than Haussler`s 62, so the Australian will help him as much as possible. Our best cobble specialist Maaskant is also still building up his form as also Vansummeren. So next to Farrar we must watch especially Felline and Boom, who can ride on their own. Fischer and Van Der Velde will help as good as possible.

Different to Omloop Het Niuewsblad Quickstep and Liquigas are participating with their best squad. Might be interesting to watch them here as Boonen is the top favourite for most experts.
Kuurne - Kuurne
The hardest part is in the middle of the stage with some pavement and hills. The final kilometers are totally flat and could cause splits because of the heavy wind.
Bachelet (AnPost) and Delage (Omega) are the only riders with an early attack. With wind speed up to 50km/h no one else wants to ride in the wind for the next 5 hours.
Quickstep (Boonen), Sky (Flecha) and Liquigas (Gilbert) are doing the pace. The advance is at ~5min maximum.
Nothing really happened until the steepest, cobbled climb with 85km to go. A group of 12 riders creted a gap. We are glad to have 4 riders there. Farrar, Felline, Van Der Velde and Haussler. So we have two great options now. The others in this group are Hushovd, Gusev (Katusha), Hoogerland (Vacansoleil), Ista, Minard, Sijmens, Blot (Cofidis) and Rosseler (RadioShack). Especially Cofidis is doing the pace now with 4 riders there. Actually the split was caused by them. Our Garmin riders wants to wait some time and see the reaction of the peloton.
All teams including Garmin are doing the pace now. 60km and 5 minutes advance. Good for the teams with more riders in this group as the leaders can relax a bit. The breakaway is also caught now.
Quickstep and Liquigas stopped working in the peloton as nobody really helped them. Just Sky is still doing the pace. But will it be enough to bring the group back?
25km and 2min left. This can be very close now. Next to Van Der Velde also Haussler is doing the pace now. This gives the group an extra boost and the advance keeps staying at 2min.
Rosseler has no team mate in this group and is by far not the best sprinter and so he has to attack, He improved quite well and is great for late attacks as he can hold a high pace for a longer time.
Actually Felline was supposed to do the pace for Farrar but as his fitness is quite well he created a gap and is chasing the Belgium now. Farrar is still in the group waiting for a possible sprint finish.
Felline reaches Rosseler after a great efford and takes his wheel. These two riders will sprint for the win now as their advance is too big. Felline is the better sprinter but is a bit exhausted after the solo ride.
Farrar takes Hushovd`s wheel in the group in the fight for the podium.
No luck here. Felline couldn`t overtake Rosseler and so RadioShack celebrates the win here. But still a great 2nd for the young Italian. This is exactly what we expected by him.
With 21s back Hushovd wins the sprint of the group ahead of Farrar. Haussler and Van Der Velde were too exhausted to sprint, while the favourites finish with 1'47 back. Not the best tactic by the big favourites to let the group ride.

@ baia: Thanks. Was surprised as no one was able to follow his pace and then I tried it with him. Unfortunately Rosseler was stronger (80flat)
Summary of February
This February was really successful for our team. Starting with the win on Mallorca, fighting for the podium in France with Vansummeren, winning with Martin in Oman, more good results in Andalucia, where Frank stole our overall win with this awesome ride, and then some good results in the first cobbles classics and of course another win for Sanchez in Lugano. What else could I say. This was probably one of the best Februarys I every had. With Schleck, Cunego, Rodriguez and Taaramae some good riders already proved their form for Paris Nice and Tirreno Adriatico.
Who else but Sanchez should have won this award? He was successful whereever he started. Great job by him. Hopefully he will still have a good form next week.
Fouchard was 13th in the Tour du Haut Var. Don`t really know, why this is enough to get the youth award but well...good job, boy.
Rider PT
No changes in the PT ranking. Trofimov is still leading after winning in Down Under. Haussler our best man there.
Rider CT
After his win in the Tour de Mediterraneen Sicard leads the continental ranking. With his skills he has good chances to be in the top 5 for a long time this season.
Rider CQ
No big surprise that Sanchez leads the CQ Ranking. With Haussler and Martin two other Garmin riders with good results.
Team PT
Katusha also leads the Pro Tour ranking but this could already change in March where several points will be given. So far Europcar is the only Conti team with PT points.
Team CT
They also lead the Continental ranking. Quite surprising is Tabriz in the top10. With a successful attack they got the 2nd in the Tour du Haut Var overall.
Team CQ
Garmin is leading this ranking with already a nice gap to the next teams. Europcar and Saxobank would get a PT license at the moment, but the season is still long and many things will change.
March schedule
Traditionally we start the March with the Murcia tour (actually just because it was my first race with the new editor^^). Then we have our debut in the Eroica before entering the next PT races in France and Italy. In late March we participate in Catalunya and Gent Wevelgem. We will also try to defend the win in the Criterium International.
As preparation for the Ronde Van Vlanderen and Paris Roubaix we also take part in the Belgium cobbled races.
So the March is again quite full, but with a big squad like ours, we need to take part in many races. |

Contracts
I know it`S quite early to talk about contracts but as we had very many expiring contracts we tried to renew them as soon as possible to avoid any surprises.
No question that we tried to hold Sanchez in our team. And he also knows that he can still reach a lot with us an renewed the contract for 2 years. (for quite a lot of money)
Also Hesjedal will renew the contract. Due to his lack of timetrial skills he is much "cheaper" than the Spaniard and it was always sure for us that he will stay.
Another important one is Tyler Farrar. Also the sponsor puta lot of pressure on us as he is the face of Garmin. He will get a higher salary but we also expect a lot of him.
Lars Boom improved very well and showed with some wins and especially the World ITT that he can still get many wins for us.
Cameron Meyer became one of the best Australian time trialists and we are glad to have him in our team.
Van Der Velde is already an important helper in the cobbled races and with much potential left he will stay with us.
For two years it looked like Kreder wouldn`t improve. But this season he started and so we want to give him a chance to show his talent.
Peterson is already a decent climber and has some potential left. Plus he is an American, what`s important for our sponsors.
Last renewal is our next sprinter hope Baris Dao from Danmark. He improved the most from all scouted riders of all teams and really deserves a new 3 year contract as he will improve much more. Not sure if he can already celebrate his first pro win this season, but definitely the next season for sure.
Last but not least a first signing with future for the next season. Yann Souchon was 2nd in the U23 ranking in 2011 but for some reason nobody wanted him. As we are sure about his talent we give him a chance.
After a year without young riders we want to get at least 3 in this season.
Our sponsor expects at least 2 new Americans this season. |

Great that Garmin was able to secure Sanchez and Farrar mainly...that young talent looks really good,i´ll give him maximum 2 years to start winning some races, maybe next season he can already surprise us... |
