Don't forget to bring pins, you wouldn't want to keep the back number in your pocket.
It's going to ride very fast, those guys are really insane. Don't be surprised. Well, you'll be, but you'll have been warned.

Don´t you always get pins?
My tip, be in the first line for the start and try to stay in the front. That´s not easy, but it helps a lot, and don´t be frustrated if it´s too fast for you.

Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely a little nervous about it! |

I have decided to try build up for next year slowly and I will start with some cross-country skiing in the start of December, and I have set up a training plan on my home trainer. Then when the snow and ice clears on the road, time to take the bike out.
I have also yet to decide wether i will continue playing football this winter/next spring, I enjoy playing football, but I had an achilles injury last year (which is partly why I haven't been riding for 2 years).
My main worry is however I will be able to be at the level as I was 3-4 years ago when I was consistent top 20s in criteriums and couple of top 10s in the TTs.
If it doesn't work out, I may stop competing completely.

I've learnt one thing in my short time in this world.
Worse things happen at sea.
Just because you enjoy sports and playing them, doesn't mean we all have to do it competitively. You could just cycle for fitness, enjoyment, to help train you for other sports etc. Many many many reasons to cycle.

3-4 years ago, I wanted to be a pro and competitive cyclist.
Then, when I got my injury problems and lost fitness, morale and thereby results I got less ambiguous. |

Less ambitious, perchance?
Yeah, like I said, worse things happen at sea. Most injuries can be overcome with time, effort and patience.
I'd imagine you are younger than me, yet I'm going full time this year, whether I'll ever turn Pro is another matter...

Well.. I used to do youth races in Denmark, but it's been almost 6 years since I raced a "proper" race.
These days I only ride once in a while. There's simply not enough time for it anymore. I'd love to pick it back up, as I was a pretty decent sprinter :-).

I am not a sprinter, but I like when it's intense and technical.
I'm not a climber though. |

Just saw in the newspaper, that one of the guys that both me and Mowinckel91 used to wash the floor with in competition has been selected to ride with the NT(Junior) in Belgium.
Good to see when guys that don't "give up" start to get results

That's good news :-)
I rode with a couple of guys who are now continentals / pro-continentals. It's nice to see stuff like that |

It's rather funny to watch the progress, after i quit

Someone I play hockey with could be a pro Mountain Bike racer one day. He's already one of the best for his age in Manitoba, but BC, Ontario and Quebec have a lot more riders than Manitoba to choose from. Plus more preferable terrain. So it will be hard for him. |

I should be back on the bike next month, I twisted my knee cap then carried on riding through the summer, but it's on the mend now and going well.

I have some news - and they're not good.
I have not taken an option of if i will start riding again or not.
The case is, that I played football yesterday when i collided with an opponent. It was (like i felt it) like my upper body and left knee went to the right and my right knee went to the left. I heard a snapping sound in my knee and the pain I felt after that was real, real bad. I started shouting and crying, so bad was the pain. Thankfully (if there is a thankfully in this situation) one of the oppsing player's father was a doctor so he immediately understood this was a bad knee injury, and my best friend's father drove me to the hospital where I had an MRI scan, my anterior cruciate ligament is torn and my "leddbånd" (Don't know what it is in English) is also injured. Including to that I suffered some cartilage injury and it will take a long time to recover. I have been told I can start on my home trainer around Christmas, but I probably won't return to 100% condition before March...
I had surgery today and i'm going home tomorrow... My friends and teammates have come to me in the hospital and the player who injured me came today aswell, he said he was so, so sorry and handed me a bouquet of flowers and a big box of chocolates.
It is still hurting, but I hope I'll be back one day. |
