I sincerely and deeply hope that CSC will crack Evans today or tomorrow, but I have never seen Evans crack so it seems unlikely. But a lot of things can happen.

Cadel Evans has probably cracked more spectacularly than ANY OTHER candidate for GT win. 17th stage of Giro 2002. Then-unknown Evans had taken a surprising Maglia Rosa on 1st high-mountain stage day before, but here is cyclingnews.com excerpt :

"Most importantly, Savoldelli, nicknamed "Falcon" for his awesome descending skills took over the Maglia Rosa today from Cadel Evans, who cracked spectacularly on the tough ascent to the mountaintop finish at Folgaria Passo Coé, losing 15'00 to Savoldelli in the last 9km."

I remember watching that stage and Evans absolutely collapsed on that climb hardly staying upright and going forward.

Yes, it is different Evans today. But for me, the 1st picture of him will always be from Passo Coe when "Il Falco" flew the coop.

The finish did not go to plan, just like much of Popovych's Tour de France. He revealed before the stage that he suspects the reason his form is off is that the team's pre-race camp on the high-altitude roads in Italy did not suit him.

"I did the Passo Stelvio camp and, for my body, it was not good to be so far up for one week. Everyday we were riding up and down the climb."

After the Tour, he plans to examine more closely where he might have gone wrong in his preparations.

The tour is still by far and away the best grand tour for me though. With the Giro in 2nd and the Vuelta far behind in the Grupetto, not worthy of even 3rd. (Thats my view, and noone can change it)

That's your view, you take reputation and hype into account and that's fine, it's part of your enjoyment.

For me personally what matters is just one thing: the racing. And the Tour is usually where it's worst. The Vuelta on the other hand is usually the most competitive, 2007 excepted.

Today was a perfect example of the Tour: everyone just watched each other in fear.

To be honest... the tour this year has been very similar to the Giro. It would have been better... but when Ricco got kicked out it lost the only guy who had been attacking much from either race. While it's good they're trying to clean the tour up... it would have been fun to see SDV attacking tomorrow.

If Saunier Duval was here with the shithead Ricco and druggy Piepoli( I hate them both so god damn much, always have and always will) Cadel would probably crack because of the attacks from the two and Csc.

Blues Brother
I think Cadel will crack tomorrow just against the Team CSC guys. Cadel should get a much better team for next years Tour. In the mountain this year, he hasn't got any help at all in the mountains, and the whole team are build up around him.

Evans will never win the Tour next year, not when Contador is in form.
Contador is just one level higher, and even improved since hist tour victory last year.
This year is Evans only chance at Tour victory.

Blues Brother
If Contador are going to win the Tour next year, he got to find himself a new team. ASO will never let Astana drive the Tour again because all the doping cases the have been in the last years.

Ruben is correct..this is best chanche for Evans to take tour win..he also need to thank Saunier dopers..If they would be set speed at the climb..he will crack. But now..he probably will survive..and dont expect some magnifico TT ride for him ..if rider is out of form and tyred..then it go's for TT eather.
Evans has Finland hokey team mentality..(they can always fuck up ..theyr lead). Today must be most important day of the tour. Menchov speed is also starting to slow down...what is with Andy when climbing % going over or close to 10. he seems to feeling better then other's..end of the climb yesterday..and Zocolan

rontgen
I'd say it's between Evans and Menchov now.
Schleck is not good enough in TT and Sastre, well I just don't believe in him.

If Evans hangs on in the mountains, he'll take it, if not Menchov will keep within managable distance from Schlek (or who ever will be in yellow) when the long TT stage comes and win it all.

lagetcher
Apparently todays stage is live on ITV4 for those that have it, coverage starting at 12. Should be good Smile

CrueTrue
It's the same at many channels, Lagetcher. The Tour de France studio started here in Denmark at 10:10, and coverage started when the stage started Pfft
