First off, thank you to everyone that participated this year.
Without you there is no competition. It was an honor to host this once again.
Here are a few interesting numbers as the competition comes to a close:
- A grand total of 3,751 votes were made during the entire contest.
- It was close a few times but there were no ties, so I never had to vote.
- 7  Tejay Van Garderen takes the honor of receiving the most votes during a single match-up against 10 Tom Danielson in the 1st round with 59 votes.
- The biggest surprise of the tournament has to be either 9 Taylor Phinney reaching the Quarterfinals or 4  Marcel Kittel getting all the way to the Finals. Or the third option would be 5  Wilco Kelderman reaching the Semifinals.
- 40 Votes in the Finals to crown a New Champion for 2014.
- First time ever the defending champion has made it back to the Finals.

He beats Vincenzo Nibali by the smallest of margins: 21-19.
You can't say Kittel isn't a worthy Champion when he beat 3 of the 4 previous Champions (Voeckler, Voigt, and Nibali) on his way to taking the crown.
Plus he knocked off 2 #1 seeds (Quintana and Kwiatkowski) as well.
He becomes the first sprinter to win the competition. Congrats to Kittel!

Oops, forgot to vote in the final - but luckily I'd have voted for Kittel anyway. I wonder who would have won between Phinney and Kittel, given that Nibali barely won that battle.
