Amazing sensitivity and understanding there Avin. If i was Christian i would be seriously offended, and if i was Muslim even more so!
And? What's so bad about offending people? People don't have a right not to be offended.
There's a difference between "I disagree/You're wrong/That's funny" and "I LOLed hard"...
One is respectful and keeps with the tone of the debate (as far as possible when involving a giant penguin named Eric). The other is just arrogant and disrespectful.

That is your set of rules Manx, i obviously follow the other one.
Btw. you are showing much more disrespect with calling the mighty "Erik" with wrong "Eric" name.

Respecting people and their opinions is severely overrated. There's not enough time to give to that bullshit. |

Big debate going on over here now about wether or not we should centralize and have "closed centres for asylum-seekers", meaning they won't be allowed to leave a gated area.
Yesterday an eitrean(?) man highjacked a bus and killed all three people aboard, the driver and two passangers. He was supposed to be sent out of the country today.
One of the parties in the new coalition, the biggest populist party here, has been going on about how all the immigration is subjecting us to the so called "creeping sharia" ("snikislamisering" in norwegian) and how we must put a stop to it. They are one of the parties who exploit peoples fear and we saw the result on July 22nd, the shooting at Utøya.
It's almost amazing to see how some people (i.e. people in the comment section of newspapers) can stigmatize an entire religion, having no problem going on about how we should shut down the border and kick out those "filthy raping muslims".

What's weirdest of all is that these people can't be punished, because they insult a religion on itself, not the people. This is at least how the Wilders case here ended. Scary

Well, in a way they are insulting a group of people because you need only take one look to see that it's muslim=dark skinned person.
It's funny seeing how they react when it's pointed out to them that around 1000 ethnic norwegians are "filthy muslims" aswell as a bunch of people in the baltic area.
I don't see much of a differene between this fear mongering and the one during the 1930's directed at the jews.
Stigmatize a whole group based on religion? Check.
Blame them for trying to take over the world? Check.
Throw them out and close the border (not for western-europeans, duh)? Check.

I fully agree with you. My fear is people like Wilders get in charge, meaning closed borders etc. If that happens, I really sense an equivalent of camps, combined with torture coming Let's just hope that will never happen again. Unfortunately, people don't think about the history. It's the same with the crisis. History has prooved it mainly solves itself. All you can do is extend it.

Election Day 2013 here in the US. The only interesting thing to watch is Cuccinelli/McAuliffe, but the winner is still pretty obvious.
Spoiler Isn't really a difficult topic, but...
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"

The name Wilders is familiar allthough I can't quite remember him. Was he in the international media a few years back with some pretty racist opinions?
There are some mainstream politicans here who have been faced with a ton of criticism for what is bascily racist generalisations.
The former leader of The Progress Party, one of the two coalition parties and the populist-party I mentioned earlier, was a few years ago quited as saying "Not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are muslims". He is also the man behind such gems as "the people up north are just whiny, lazy sods who expects the government to do everything for them".
I am a stern believer in the fact that people tend to want a natural enemy, someone to blame. It's only natural because it gives a reason behind everything. This is a very conflicting time filled with uncertanty and muslims are an easy target. Had it not been for WWII it might have been the jews who still got the blame.

Wilders: he was the man mentioned in Breivik's manifest almost every page. He's good friends with Marine le Pen. Was refused in Australia for his ideas. Had a anti-islam speech at Ground Zero a couple of years ago. He made a movie called Fitna, discussing all dangers of the islam on itself (obviously the muslims he was trying to insult). He wants the Netherlands out of the EU and to close the borders. He won his case, as mentioned earlier on. And oh, he managed to get kicked out of the VVD, which is impressive. I think that's pretty much it of him.
About the scapegoat you mention in the last paragraph: I don't fully agree with you. Jews weren't the scapegoat everywhere, and still are at some places, even in Europe. It's not only muslims who are easy picks now, it's immigrants stealing jobs from people who sit home unemployed and don't want to do the jobs immigrants do. However, since they are an easy pick, it's all their fault.

Well, that means you are not looking good enough, more than anything. It is not comparable at all. Also can you tell me about all that jewish suicide bombers, or about all that jews that were not accepting laws of the country they were accepted in,beacuse they had their own laws?
And i am not saying that every Muslim is a bomber or rapist, that is stupid indeed. But as i see it, they will either follow the law of the country that gave them new space to live, or they will be kicked out and their compatriots will be forbidden to enter. When i go to Muslim country, i also accept their laws and traditions, or i would have my arm cut off, or something like that...

Kinda funny. Though no one in their right mind would argue that way.

Right mind? That is strong word when you talk about organised religion
But yeah, not exactly with these simple words, but in fact it would be same bullshit going forever. Blah, blah, blah, God is great, i have no brain so i give my life to someone who does not exist, blah.blah. These are not my faults or succeses, God or Devil did it for me,blah, blah. Same crap again and again...
People should realize that it is only other people and themselves, who is shaping the world around them.

As long as they give their life to a hypothetical being it's almost fine with me. Problems start when they impose stuff or take lives of others because of that same hypothetical being. |

I agree here. I am not anti-GOD activist who is shouting on the streets, but i like to confront blind people.
And i hate when parents are stuffing their kids heads with this from birth.
